As vacation season approaches, travelers realize that RV family trips
tend to be significantly less expensive than other types of vacations
Remember the thrill you felt as a
child as you watched and waited at the
window until your grandparents pulled
into the driveway and you rushed out to
greet them to receive that special hug
that only they could give? In today’s
economy grandma and grandpa might
not be able to afford to visit frequently
or your work schedule doesn’t necessary
fit the same schedule as theirs. The love
is still there and the desire to be together
is no less. However, how do you manage
far, perhaps just to one of the hundreds
of RV campgrounds in the state or plan
a special trip to a destination spot like
Disneyland or somewhere on the Oregon
coast. We are talking quality time. Time
spent with loved ones remembering
special memories and creating new
memories that will stay with you forever.
Whether it’s a trip to Southern
California, Disneyland and the beach
or just up one of the canyons along
the Wasatch Front for the weekend,

that special time together as a complete
family?
Consider RVing. It is the perfect
opportunity for the family to get together
including the kids, grandparents and the
family dog! Your trip does not have to be
more and more families are choosing
to travel in RVs. According to Jerry
Vandenakker, Sales Manager for Blaine
Jensen RV in Kaysville, “One of the
reasons people choose RVs is that they
are a great way to spend time with the
family.” Vandenakker explains that
cost, convenience and quality time
with the family are the main reasons
RVs are becoming so popular for family
vacations.
Nothing ruins the joy of a vacation
quicker than receiving credit card
statements once you settle back home.
Even with rising gas costs, vacationers
are finding RVs to be the most affordable
way to enjoy spending time with friends
and loved ones.
“Some people worry about gas
prices when considering buying an RV,”
Vandenakker says. “But when you think
about the cost of airline tickets, meals
and sleeping accommodations for the
whole family, gas in an RV really isn’t all
that much. Plus, RV campgrounds are
less expensive than motels or hotels, not
to mention the expense families save
by preparing meals in the RV instead
of going out to restaurants. RVs are
your homes away from home and an
environment you can feel comfortable
and safe in.”
Many RV models allow a family of
four to save up to 74 percent on vacation

costs over other forms of travel. That
calculation takes into consideration RV
ownership costs, including payments,
insurance, maintenance, tires, tax breaks,
registration and depreciation. Want to
take a family of four to California for a
week? Traveling in a typical family motor
home will cost 53 percent less than flying,
renting a car, staying in a hotel and eating
out, according to an independent survey by
PKF Consulting. A trip to the Grand Canyon
in a folding camping trailer will cost
70 percent less than driving and using
hotels and restaurants. Because RVs can
be financed as a second home, they are
also very affordable. “In some cases we
can get the buyer into an RV for less than a
cheap car payment,” Vandenakker notes.
