Simple Pleasures
With the new national focus on
economizing and getting back to
basics, 2009 promises to be a year of
change in many areas of our lives,
including travel. Here’s a look at
What’s Hot and What’s Not for 2009,
according to the Recreation Vehicle
Industry Association.
Canvass survey of RV owners found
that 85% will travel at least as much
this winter as they did last year, if
not more.
NOT: Staycations: Americans read a
lot about staying home in 2008, but it
didn’t happen. We like our playtime,
and a run-up of fuel costs didn’t
change that.
HOT: Value: Saving is the new
spending. A recent study showed that
RVing is 27-61 percent less expensive
than other forms of travel. Some 30
million Americans already enjoy the
value that RV vacations offer. More
than 80% of RVers say they save
when they travel by RV.
HOT: Savecations: Americans are
looking for ways to cut costs this
year without giving up their family
getaways. RVIA’s latest Campfire
NOT: Overspending: It’s no surprise
that the economy is making consumers look for more bang for their
vacation buck.
To help you vacation this year and
save money, this issue offers you 25
free (and almost free) things to do in
our nation’s capital (pg. 6) and ideas
for cheap vacations (pg. 5).
If you are thinking of exploring an
RV lifestyle, join us for our Sweetheart
Special Promotion being held in our
showroom from February 18 to 21.

Cheap Vacations
M
artin and Deborah Murphy
bought a midsize Coleman/
Pioneer Seneca pop-up
camper because “it would fit the six of
us, the price was low, and it wasn’t so
big that we wouldn’t be able to fit it
into small spaces. Also, it is light
enough that we aren’t uncomfortable
pulling it up and down mountains in
remote areas,” says Deborah.
Where do you vacation? Usually
we do one week at PA state parks.
This past summer we took a two-week
trip to Utah. We decide where to go
based on whether we want to short
trip to hike, see waterfalls, and swim
in lakes, or a big destination.
What do we enjoy most about the
pop-up? Comfortable beds! And it’s
dry inside when it rains. A pop-up is
versatile enough that we can usually
pull it into a tent space, so we aren’t
limited to a RV campground.
Favorite destination?
That’s hard to say! We like
to go different places,
although we really enjoy PA
because there are lots of
outdoor things to do, and
once you are there you can
slow down and actually
vacation! Our favorite PA destinations
are Promised Land, Rickets Glen State
Parks and the Grand Canyon of PA.
This past summer we traveled crosscountry from PA to Utah, to drop our
older sons off at college, instead of
putting them on a plane, to enjoy time
camping together along the way. We
came across flood waters in Illinois,
enjoyed a church pageant in Nauvoo,
saw a LOT of endless cornfields—too
many!—went through the Colorado
mountains, and finally reached Utah.
We spent a night camping in Arches
National Park. It was awe inspiring!
The size of the arches and domed
rocks was amazing! After dropping
our older sons off, we traveled to
Mt. Rushmore, where we hiked and
visited a Native American Monument
on a mountain close to Mt. Rushmore
that visitors shouldn’t miss if they go
there. Be aware—it is a LONG drive!
We camped at a national campground
nearby to avoid the “tourist trap” type
closer to Mt. Rushmore. There are
campgrounds for all tastes and styles,
fortunately. Finally arriving back in
PA, we camped at a nice State Park
and realized that as far as camping
goes, nothing beats what
we have here at home in PA!
Best advice? Be sure your
car will pull the size RV you
plan to buy. Be comfortable
with the amount of visibility you will have and your
ability to drive with the RV
you want. Safety is of #1 importance!
Don’t over-buy; realize you will have
to drive with that thing behind you!
Practice backing up in an open area
before you take off on that trip.
Remember you are camping to have
fun, not impress anyone else. R

RVs Promote Healthy Lifestyles
I
t might not seem like RVs would
promote a healthier lifestyle, but
research shows that people who
go RVing lead a generally healthier
lifestyle. Here are a few ways that
RVing promotes healthier living:
Stress Relief
When in your RV, you don’t have
to worry about the day-to-day stressors. You can make your own schedule, travel how and when you want,
and choose your activities. This leads
to less stress, which, in turn, promotes
a healthier lifestyle. The closeness to
nature also helps reduce stress levels.
Physical Activities
People who are on vacations in
their RVs are typically more active than
if they had stayed at home. Hiking,
walking, and biking are among the
three most popular activities. Often,
RVs don’t have TVs, so people are
more active and less sedentary.
Better Nutrition
Instead of eating fast food, people
who go RVing are more likely to take
the time to make a better meal. When
you are on vacation, you have time to
cook healthier meals and are not as
tempted by junk food.
Rewarding Relationships
RVing is a time when you make
new friends from all over the world.
It is also a time when you can reconnect to those people who are closest
to you. Most RVers take their families
with them, and say that RVing is a
great time to hang out with their
children and grandchildren. Fostering
these positive relationships promotes
good emotional health.
Next time you are looking for an
excuse to go RVing, do it for your
health. Do it for your well-being. Most
importantly, do it for the fun. R

PRE-ENJOYED BOATS
Ready for Digital TV?
By law, unless extended, on February
17, 2009, all local television broadcast
stations are required to turn off their
analog channels and broadcast exclusively
in the better digital television (DTV) format.
Winegard has been leading the
transition by providing RVers with a
Digital to Analog Converter Box. The
converter box is easy to set up and its
compact size is ideal for RVs. Simply
plug it into your existing analog TV set
and over-the-air antenna and you’ll
start enjoying your FREE local DTV
stations right away. RCDT09A Winegard
converter boxes are available at
Stoltzfus RV’s and Marine.
For RVers who use the Winegard
Sensar batwing or RoadStar over-the-air
antenna, the NEW Winegard Wingman™,
optimizes any crank-up Sensar TV
antenna for DTV! Designed to increase
performance up to 100% on DTV
channels, you will enjoy free local
programming in both digital and high
definition (assuming your TV is digital
ready or you have a converter box).
Winegard Sensar antennas currently
provide excellent VHF reception (ch. 2-13)
and great UHF reception (ch. 14 – 51).
Whether you’re looking for a
converter box or to optimize your
Sensar antenna for DTV with a Wingman,
Stoltzfus has what you’re looking for –
stop in today!
