Because of such low number of donors this
nonprofit organization took this initiative of
spreading the awareness among the youth breaking
all the myth in their mind. They wanted to reach
the youth inspiring them to become a organ donor
such that millions of people‘s lives can be saved.
To achieve this motive they chose our prestigious
college
ACHARYA
INSTITUTE
OF
TECHNOLOGY, Bangalore.
“ORGAN DONATION REGISTRATIONS
AND
AWARENESS
PROGRAMME”
CONDUCTED ON 7TH,8TH NOV 2012.
The Event was headed by the faculty Lekshmi
Nair, Assnt prof, EEE dept. The nonprofit
organization which took initiative to spread the
awareness in our college "Good Hearted Soul". It
was part of their National Youth Awareness
Campaign on organ donation across the nation in
all states.
Coming to hard statistics,55% of the accidents
in India are dealt within age group of 17 to 30,
in which 70./. results in death in the hospital.
Ever imagined if all these people had registered
for organ donation, then they could have saved
millions of people. At present organ donation is
in a very bad situation in India. In Karnataka,
from the past 5 years, there are only over 1000
registered organ donors who wish that their
organs can be taken after their death and their
body should be given back to the family
members for further rituals.
Each department was represented by their
volunteers. ECE dept was represented by:
•Prem Kumar.E and R. Deepak ( Head coordinators for the event.): 5th Sem
•Jeevan D Raj, Kiran R, Sujay (Volunteers): 5th
sem.
Working as a team we went to each class and
explained the importance of saving lives, doing a
good deed, being an organ donor and finally
taking the registrations from the students.
Each class of ECE dept was covered in such
fashion. Same way with combined team work all
volunteers covered ECE dept, Cs dept, ISE dept,
Mechanical dept, Civil dept, Biotech dept, MBA
and MCA dept, EEE dept of AIT college. Even
Acharya School of Architecture was covered in
the process.
Our Respected Principal, Dr.Maheshappa also
registered himself to be an organ donor. Giving
their complete support, all the faculty members
and the working staff even registered themselves
as organ donors. The whole event took place on
7th and 8th of November,2012.
The event successfully completed with a huge
number of 1000 registrations from our college. If
seen statistically Karnataka as a state could add
up to 1000 donors while we, Acharya Inst of
Tech, alone could add up to the same. That‘s
something to be proud off.
Good Hearted Soul has been closely working with
ZCCK( Zonal Co-ordination Committee of
Karnataka for Organ Transplantation) and Gift your
organ foundation. ZCCK is the only organization in
K‘taka through whom organ donations and
transplants are co-ordinated. Such facts allowed us
to easily clear the doubts which arose on the
legitimacy of this event.
