Blessing of Pets - next Sunday, October 4, at 1:00 pm in the courtyard at Saint Wendel. Twenty-Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time - September 27, 2015 Many Thanks - to those who volunteered to work in the Evansville Young Dairymen’s Ice Cream Booth at the recent Vanderburgh County Fair. The Evansville Young Dairymen made a donation of $500 to Saint Wendel Parish in appreciation for the volunteers who shared their time and talent. Thank You - for supporting the Saint Wendel School PTO fundraiser of Butter Braids and Cookie Dough. The Saint Wendel School PTO made a profit of $8,877. The top five families were: the Straub family (Dimitri and Cordale), the Wathen family, the Schmitt family (Jackson and Caden), the Donner family, and the Schmitt family (Molly). Garden Vegetables - Many thanks to those who continue to donate fresh vegetables from their gardens. You may bring your fresh garden vegetables to Saint Wendel School on Sundays or Monday mornings. The vegetables will be picked up at 8:00 am on Monday mornings and delivered to the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry in Evansville for distribution. A Big Thanks - to all the parishioners who entered the baby photo contest at the Saint Wendel Social. First place winner was Reid Beuligmann, second place went to Sadie Rose Schmitt, and the third cutest baby photo went to Emma Jean Schroeder! Thanks to all who so generously donated. The money raised will go to Mrs. Cadden's 6th grade service project to benefit Life Choices Maternity and Youth Home. They have big plans to help young mothers and other teens experiencing life challenges with the special care and support provided by a faith-based residential shelter. The mission of Life Choices Maternity & Youth Home is to prepare pregnant and other at-risk teen girls to become selfsufficient and valued community members. New Endowment - Saint Wendel Parish acknowledges the recent endowment established in memory of George and Mary Lou Fehrenbacher. The annual distributions from this endowment will benefit the people of Saint Wendel Parish forever. The Saint Wendel Social - is in need of someone to take the dinner chairperson position as of 2018. Ideally this person or persons would be able to shadow the current chairperson in 2016 and 2017. All purchases will go toward raising funds for the youth attending World Youth Day in Poland in 2016. Thank you for your support! Catholic Inquiry Sessions - Are you interested in learning more about the Catholic faith? Are you interested in becoming a member of the Catholic Church? To be baptized, confirmed, and come to share in the Eucharist is possible at any age! Today, men and women from a variety of backgrounds are responding to the call to follow Christ and celebrate the sacraments of the Church. Catholic Inquiry Sessions will begin soon. The Saint Wendel Ladies’ Club - will meet on Thursday, October 1, at 6:30 pm. A representative from the American Red Cross will speak on disaster preparedness for seniors with the objective of taking proper steps to prepare for any unforeseen emergencies and the importance of having more than one plan available. There will be time allowed for questions. Please plan to attend this meeting. Saint Wendel Burgoo - will be made next Saturday, October 3. The Good Shepherd Prayer Apostolate / First Tuesday Prayer Day - are coming up and will both fall on Tuesday, October 6, this month. As the United States has just been blessed by a beautiful visit from our beloved Pope Francis and following his powerful message, we are afforded yet another opportunity to help fulfill round-the-clock prayers throughout our diocese for our Bishop Thompson and his intentions, our priests and all religious as well as prayers for our youth to be open to discerning a possible call to a religious vocation! You are invited to stop by Saint Francis Xavier Church from 6 am - 3 pm or Saint Wendel Church from 7 am - 10 pm on Tuesday, October 6, to thank our Precious Lord in the Blessed Sacrament and place our requests before Him. Come even if you can only stay for a short time! The benefits are out of this world. Volunteers Are Needed - in the Saint Wendel Fall Festival booth on Wednesday, October 7, Thursday, October 8, and Friday, October 9, during the day. Two Volunteers Are Needed - to transport the Saint Wendel Fall Festival Booth to Franklin Street on Sunday, October 4, from 6 am to 8 am and on Sunday, October 11, to return the booth to the Saint Wendel Storage Building from 6 am to 8 am. Willing volunteers will shadow current volunteers to learn how and where to deliver the booth. Volunteers need a truck with towing capabilities. Saint Francis Xavier Ladies’ Club - All women of both parishes are invited to AVA HOUR with Rita Davis on Wednesday, October 7, at 6:30 pm in the Saint Francis Xavier Cafeteria. Dinner will be served from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Menu includes barbecued ribs, Texas potatoes, baked beans, slaw, bread, dessert and drink. Kids menu: hot dog, mac & cheese, applesauce, dessert and drink. Confirmation Formation - Families with students participating in Confirmation formation should receive a registration form to be completed in addition to their religious education materials. If you have not, Religious Ed registration packets are in the back of church which contain the Confirmation registration form. Please note that information meetings have been scheduled in the Saint Francis Xavier School cafeteria on Sunday, October 18, at 11:15 am for 2nd year students and their parents (sponsors encouraged to attend), and at 1:00 pm for 1st year students and their parents. These meetings will contain important details specific to where students are in the process. The Posey County Right to Life - is looking for baby photos for the Fall Festival Baby Photo Contest! Photos must be 5X7of babies under 2 years of age. Entry fee of $10 and photo can be dropped off at Life Choices Youth and Maternity Home parking lot at 2225 East Indiana Street on Sunday, October 4, from 11 am - 1 pm or on Monday, October 5, at 10 am at the Posey County Right to Life booth # 74. 40 Days for Life - is here again!
