THE RED CARPET SHOW
Dear Pet Grooming Professional:
Welcome to Intergroom, 2014!
Please take some time to review our new catalog carefully so that you can best benefit from
everything Intergroom has to offer!
For starters, our three day convention, trade show and grooming competitions are held on
SATURDAY, SUNDAY and MONDAY, just like the shows in the human beauty industry! Check the
catalog carefully for trade show hours, times of educational classes and grooming competitions as
well. Our Rising Star and International Groomer of the Year competitions begin on Saturday
morning, continue on through Sunday and finish right before Best in Show, which will be presented
on the trade show floor on Sunday evening, starting at 5:00 PM.
Monday morning brings the incredible “Extreme Makeover Competition” featuring dogs with a
minimum of four months of hair growth. The unique “Feline Fantasy Competition” will be held in the
adjacent ring area and, in the afternoon, the ever popular “Creative Challenge Competition” will take
place. So, set aside time to enjoy these elaborate pet styling fabrications with color and sculpture
limited only by the amazing imaginations of the individual stylists.
Competitors: Entries will be limited due to the ring size in our new venue. Send your entries in early.
Only competition and demo dogs will be allowed at the show this year.
Once again, we are featuring some of the country’s top professionals presenting seminars throughout
the show hours. Classroom seminars and demonstrations will fill the weekend with quality education.
Class choices are clearly noted and clarified in the catalog so, please, make your selections carefully
before registering. You may register on-line, at the Intergroom website (www.intergroom.com) for
educational classes and competitions as well as our Free Trade Show registration.
Come, see and “feel” the excitement of INTERGROOM, 2014!
Find yourself in the company of top pet stylists, hundreds of products and industry leaders from
around the globe all sharing their knowledge, technique and information to enhance your
professional career and your Intergroom experience.
We’ll see you there.

NOTICE TO 2014 ATTENDEES & COMPETITORS
REGARDING DOGS ON HOTEL PROPERTY
Please read these rules carefully
The dogs entered in our competitions and involved in the programs are essential to the success of our show.
Since special arrangements have been made with the Hilton Meadowlands Hotel and Conference center to
accommodate these dogs, we ask dog owners and handlers to observe the following rules:
1. Only dogs and cats entered in the various competitions or scheduled for demonstrations or seminars will be permitted at the hotel. No pets should accompany other attendees.
2. The hotel will permit only two dogs per room. You may, however, bring additional dogs for the competitions. We will house them in a special supervised holding area at no additional cost to you.
These dogs will not be left unattended; there will be security staff on duty at all times. This area will
be available from 2:00 pm on Friday, April 4th, until 5:00 pm on Monday, April 7th. Please check in
at the holding area on the second floor of the hotel..
3. Advance reservations are required noting that dogs will need to be accommodated in the hotel
rooms. When you complete the room reservation be sure to indicate that you will be bringing dogs.
To minimize complaints about barking, the hotel plans to house all guests with dogs on the same
floors if possible. Dogs not properly acknowledged upon check-in will receive a harsh penalty from
the Hotel.
4. Your dog must be kenneled at all times when alone in sleeping rooms. Please bring sufficient crates
to house your dogs.
5. Dogs must be leashed or kenneled when they are not being groomed in the contest ring or in the
seminars. They also must be leashed and well supervised at all times when in public areas of the
hotel.
6. There is a special “walking” and lavatory area for all dogs at the hotel. The areas will be clearly
marked and no other area should be used for this purpose. Check at front desk for directions to the
“walking area”. Come prepared to pick-up after your dog(s).
7. Absolutely NO bathing, blow-drying or pre-grooming of dogs is allowed in any of the sleeping
rooms. Penalties will be severe.
We have made special arrangements with BEST IN SHOW for the use of their specially-designed grooming facility. This has proved far superior to any other accommodations we have tried before. Again this
year, we will have a SIGN-UP SHEET for you to schedule your bathing appointment time. Please register on arrival to ensure a timely spot for preparation.
Contestants who sign an entry form to any of the competitions scheduled at INTERGROOM 2014 agree to
abide by the rules of good conduct that govern grooming contests and purebred dog shows. You have also
agreed to “hold harmless” the owner or lessor of the premises and you assume all the responsibility of any
acts of your dog(s). The Hilton Hotel has put the following rules into effect to minimize future problems.
If you, or your dog, damage, destroy or steal hotel property, you are responsible to make restitution to the satisfaction of the hotel. Behavior which could result in such action may be, but not limited to: stealing or damaging towels or linens; improper clean-up after the dog; actual blow drying, clipping or scissoring in the sleeping room (which is not allowed and subject to charges); causing destruction to room furniture (beds, dressers,
drapes, etc.); and/or failure to pay room charges.
These are serious problems. Violations will be dealt with firmly.

Dorothy McDermott
1951-2013
Intergroom lost a long time employee this past year.
Dorothy McDermott had been with our on-site
staff since 1997. Affectionately, we first referred
to her as “Our Lady of the Clippers” since it was
her particular job to supply clippers and blades to
those over-seas competitors who needed equipment. As we slowly eliminated that position, she
was moved to work more closely with Sue Pratt in
the Competition management area.
We will miss her smiling face and jolly disposition.
May she Rest In Peace.
The New England Pet Grooming Professionals would like
to invite you to become a new member in our non-profit
organization. As a current member of the organization you
will receive special member prices to the educational
seminars the NEPGP is hosting this year.

The Evolution of Mobile Grooming
Presented by Dina Perry • Sponsored by Wag’n Tails Mobile Conversions
Twenty years ago people would tell me mobile grooming was a fad. I can remember hearing phrases like “It will never work
here” “I can’t charge that much!” Well things seem to have changed radically. Mobiles are everywhere, in every state; countries
like Dubai, Kuwait, Mexico and Canada all have successful mobile groomers. Stylists have found the basic principles of mobile
work everywhere. Less pets to groom, more money per pet, flexible hours and affluent clients are more than an attractive alternative to a salon. Equipment is better than ever, front wheel drive vehicles, affordable, fuel efficient diesels, rotating table tops all
making life on the road easier and more profitable. Are you evolving or stagnating?

Mistakes not to make when going mobile
Presented by Dina Perry • Sponsored by Wag’n Tails Mobile Conversions
The two most common mistakes a mobile stylist can make are pricing incorrectly and routing poorly. Let’s not make these
mistakes if starting out and find a way to correct them if you are already on the road. We will use a simple formula for pricing
that will show you how to make what YOU DESERVE and not what your competition thinks you should make. Remember, you
don’t need thousands of clients to be a success, you only need a hundred good ones.
Poor Routing will put you on the road way too long each day. You don’t make money driving around admiring the scenery.
Are you covering too large an area? Are your clients routing for you? Poor routing can sour you on what should be a very enjoyable and profitable business.

Strips with Style
Presented by Daryl Conner • Sponsored by Aesculap – the German Red Clipper Company
It’s a fact, for some dogs the only grooming choice available is to shave ‘em down. In some cases this means taking the
dreaded # 10 blade from nose tip to tail, but other times it is possible to save coat in strategic spots so the dog still has some balance, cuteness and character. This class features before and after shots showing some typical dogs that you might come across
on a day-to-day basis, and how they were safely groomed to make the pet look as good as possible sporting its new “smoothie!”
You will also learn some techniques that will help you explain to the human at the end of the leash exactly why you are going to
“start over” with their pet’s clip. Hand-outs? Yes.
Stupid Daryl Stories
Presented by Daryl Conner • Sponsored by Aesculap – the German Red Clipper Company
If you’ve ever been to one of Daryl’s classes you might remember that she throws in the occasional funny story that occurs
when dealing with quirky customers, moving animals and sharp tools. In the past 30 years Daryl has worked in a veterinary clinic, a huge kennel, an upscale spa and as both a house call and mobile groomer. She’s been pretty successful, but she’s also made
some really horrible mistakes. This class will be filled with cautionary tales, emergency vet visits and warnings to do as I say and
not as I’ve done. Come hear about the little dogs that almost got into traffic, the story of the terrifying collectible dolls, stuff that
happens when you bring your toddler to work with you, and even the famous “Crazy White Woman” story.

advantage. Good tools are an investment in your career; purchasing time and trouble saving equipment will actually save you
money in the long run. Handouts to take away will remind you of all the cool stuff you learned in this fun class.
