Anjum Mahmood
From day one I knew I was born to paint. There were no doubts, so I got admission in the best Art school of my country.
Words of encouragement from my principal still ring back in my mind. His faith in my artistic ability led to his arranging
a two-man show immediately after graduation. The reviews were good and the work well received. Encouraged, I
thought migration to New York, one of the most renowned cities for art and culture, after marriage would be a perfect
fit. Whenever I got a chance I would take courses at Parsons School of Design and the Visual School of Arts, but my
dreams were put on hold. My husband passed away of a sudden heart attack. Devoting my time to raising kids,
managing the mortgage, and providing the finances left me little time to paint. It was not until I was laid off from work
that I realized what I was really missing. I started to paint. It gave me such peace and happiness. Slowly I picked up
where I had left off, got in touch with my old friends and colleagues, who by now are well known artists. They
encouraged me to have an exhibition in Karachi, Pakistan. So in 2011, almost forty years later, I had my first solo! Even
though all my paintings were sold within the first two days people didn’t really know my work but it renewed my faith in
me. Since then I have participated in shows in both New York and New Jersey and plan to continue my passion.

Naila Arain
Born into a family of artists, Naila Arain developed a passion for art at an early age. Growing up in a multicultural
community introduced Arain to alphabets from all over the world, which she incorporates into her paintings today. Her
work seeks to find a balance between bold strokes of calligraphy, powerfully expressed subtle watercolors, and explores
the conflict between these two contradictory expressions. The combination of Middle Eastern, South Asian, and East
Asian calligraphy fused with urban graffiti styles of her native New Jersey and New York City create images that are both
familiar as well as alien to the viewer. Arain incorporates different aspects of her life, culture, religion, and her
experiences in America to combine them in a unique way that appeals to any sensibility. Naila's art work serves as a
visual diary where her emotional state guides her choice in colors and spontaneous strokes

Sunrise
My name is Liu, Guo Ping: My English name is Sunrise, which reflects my attitude to life and my personality. My work
ranges from portraits to flowers to landscapes to abstract to calligraphy to Chinese ink to murals: really anything large or
small. I graduated from the Beijing Institute of Education in 1984, having studied Chinese calligraphy there since 1980,
and having received an award from the department for those studies in 1982. I further received awards at the 1997 and
1998 Beijing China Art Museum exhibitions for participating in the Din Shaoguang Art Exhibition and the Exhibition of
Fine Art in Beijing. Between the years of 1997 and 1999 I made approximately one hundred pieces, and then from 2000
to 2006 about sixty abstract pieces.

LauraAnne Fung
LauraAnne was born in 1992 in Kingston, Jamaica. She began paining at the early age of ten. In the following years she has
accomplished many things. She has taken part in many national and international exhibitions including group exhibitions at the Art
Fusion Gallery in Florida 2009, the Jamaica High Commission in London 2009, the Olympia Gallery in Jamaica 2008/2009, the
Berhane Selassie Art Gallery in Jamaica 2010 and the Broadway Gallery NYC in 2010. Later in 2010 the young artist held her own
solo exhibition in Kingston, Jamaica. The bright colors, as well as the chaos and spontaneity that characterize life in her Caribbean
homeland, are reflected in the vibrancy of her paintings. LauraAnne mostly paints in abstract forms. Representational painting has had
little interest for her. From she was a mere 6 years old she has wanted to express the images that bombard her mind in splashes of
color, strokes and symbols.
