ILLINOIS CENTER FOR BROADCASTING ABOUT US Since 1986, the Illinois and Ohio Centers for Broadcasting have taught all aspects of broadcasting to a generation of broadcasters through an intensive, hands-on program instructed by the industry’s top professionals. The Centers for Broadcasting possess a unique mix of broadcasting leadership and experience, educational excellence, and use of cutting edge technologies, combining to solidify its position at the forefront of broadcasting education. With a full-time graduate relations department placing up to 85% of graduates of each class into broadcasting positions, this private, fully-accredited educational institution has become an important pathway for career success for hundreds in the exciting broadcast industry. The instructors are top industry professionals working in the Chicago market. Students receive hands-on training in fully equipped TV studios, control rooms, video/audio editing stations, and fully-equipped audio studios with multiple on-air Internet Radio/TV Stations. The school maintains a full-time graduate job place- ment department to assist graduates in preparation of recorded audition material, continuity samples, resumes and applications for employment. At the Illinois Center for Broadcasting, there are no books or homework because the school’s style is to “learn by doing.” The Illinois Center for Broadcasting is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC) and approved by the Illinois State Board of Education. This accreditation means going through a process of consistency, program approval, and maintaining a minimum 70 percent graduate placement rate. APPLICATION PROCESS: An applicant admitted to the ICB program must be a high school graduate or have GED certification. Each applicant must successfully pass a live audition, and receive a written evaluation that measures the applicant’s vocal skills relative to articulation, breathing, reading skills, voice quality and strength. Each skill is evaluated on a scale of 1 to 10, and the applicant must achieve an average of 7 to be admitted to the training program. FINANCIAL AID: Interested applicants should call the School Admissions Office to schedule an informational meeting with the Financial Aid Officer to discuss eligibility. Graduation Requirements: > Satisfactory completion of all required assignments and tests. > Completion of minimum lab, work study and/or review sessions. > Approved audition tape, where required. JOB PLACEMENT: The Illinois Center for Broadcasting maintains a fulltime graduate placement department to assist graduates who successfully complete the broadcast curriculum. Job inquiries are received and processed continually from employers seeking graduates to fill vacancies on their staff. Assistance is given to graduates in the preparation of recorded audition material, continuity samples, resumes and applications for employment. Upon graduation, a student who desires on-air placement assistance must submit an audition tape to the School Director for approval. The approved audition tape should demonstrate the skills that the student learned while in class. Job openings other than on-air application do not require an approved audition tape. The School does not guarantee job placement. FACILITIES/EQUIPMENT: Students receive hands-on training in fully equipped TV studios, control rooms, video/audio editing stations, and fully-equipped audio studios with multiple on-air Internet Radio/TV Stations. For instructional purposes, the classrooms have remote monitoring ability of studio production activity and have TV Monitors with DVD/Video/Audio/Computer playback equipment. > Grade point average of 2.0 or higher. > Completion of all coursework with a minimum passing grade. POST GRADUATION FACILITY USE: ICB graduates in good standing are permitted to use campus studios and equipment at no charge for up to 6 months from the date of their graduation, with consideration of current class schedules and studio availability. After 6 months from graduation, graduates wanting to use ICB studios will be charged a studio fee of $35.00 per hour. ICB graduates in good standing are eligible to receive re-training or training on new technology that has been added to the curriculum since their attendance. For this tutored instruction, they will be charged a tutoring fee of $75.00 per hour. Eligibility for training will be determined upon recommendation from ICB Director of Education and availability of instructors, studios, and equipment. Graduates, who have successfully completed the program, will be charged a fee for job placement assistance after a period of 12 months from graduation.
