2012/2013 Club Sponsors - Coromandel Cricket Club
Vol. Number - 2 Date – 1st of November 2012 The season has officially started and it’s time to see if all of the pre-season has paid off. Round 1 saw the A and D grade teams face the arch enemy Coromandel Ramblers with the Benson-Magarey trophy on offer. It also saw B grade Face Panorama and the C’s had to face fierce competition against St George…… Cont. on Page 3 2012/2013 Club Sponsors Cricketing Quiz GymbaROO Pg. 2: Full list Pg. 7: The hardest quiz in town Pg. 8: Full Details Page No - 2 Official Magazine of the CCC Date – 1st of November 2012 Our Sponsors for the 2012/2013 Season Platinum Gold Silver Junior Donation Official Magazine of the CCC Page No - 3 Date – 1st of November 2012 The challenge against St George was expected to be a big one after they dominated the grade last year before choking at the end of the season (as they were reminded). Unfortunately this did prove to be the case with the C’s losing by three wickets. The highlights were a solid 30 by Dave Every at the top of the order and newly appointed Captain Will Hillier making 32 in the lower order. The A grade faced the arch enemies the Coromandel Ramblers down at Hawthorndene Oval and things went well with a convincing win, after setting the Ramblers a target of 291 the bowlers came to the front to dismiss them for just 96 and then sent them in again and took 8/78. The pick of the players was without doubt Max Cheek who made 78* and took 4 wickets. The D’s who also played the Ramblers once again did the damage with the ball. The main destructor was Peter “Silver Fox” Zacpal Peter ‘Silver Fox’ Zacpal who continues to tear the opposition batting line ups apart, took an impressive 5/6 off 11 overs which led to the Ramblers being bowled out for 104 which was chased 6 wickets down. The highlight of the round was definitely the B grade game though. After being set a difficult target of 235 the boys made a great effort with two batsmen standing out with completely different scores. The first with the performance of the round was Matt Longhurst who made 138 runs but the other was Chris (Stormy) Norman. The first ball he faced was the last one of the game with scores tied. ‘Stormy’ managed to get a good bit of leg on it to which led to the game winning run. The second round started with all teams hoping to continue on with the good from round 1. The A grade played Belair where they had a close win. The BOG would have to be Max Cheek with 37 runs and then following up 3/28 from 25 overs with the ball. The B grade went down south to play ICC sharks, with good bowling they managed to get them out for just 142 with Joshua “Rove” McManus taking 4 for 29. The batsmen then managed to chase this down for the loss of just 1 wicket with all batsmen contributing. The C grade wanted to bounce back from last week’s loss with a win against Cove and bounce back they did. Choosing to bat first proved fruitful as they went on to make 211 with new player Andy “Felix” Baumgartner doing the damage with 58 runs. When it came to bowling it ended up being the “Ben Scott Show” as he proceeded to take 6/38 which was a PB for the club (Which he reminded everyone of). The best performance of the round though has to go to the club’s D grade. Playing Adelaide Cavaliers they chose to bat first and ended up piling on 303 runs with an outstanding 119 not out from club games record holder Bruce “Henry” Carpenter. This is also Bruce’s highest score th for the club and his 4 century for the club. Not to be outdone the bowlers then set to work and dismissed them for 184 in the first innings and 94 in the second innings to complete the outright win with Peter “Silver Fox” taking his 900th wicket for the club. This round also saw Coromandel play in the T20 competition where they played against Morphettville Park. This has not been a great tournament for Coromandel as they had been unsuccessful to win any of the four games they had played. Coromandel chose to bat first which ended up being the correct decision as they piled on 199 runs with Matt Longhurst making 87 not out and Jai Koirala 71. They then went on to bowl Morphettville out for 102 with Sam Cheek taking 3 for 2. This means that Coromandel will proceed to the next round against Keswick on the 18th of November at Cove Community Sports Ground. Will first came to the club in the 1998/1999 after he saw an advertising banner on Main Road which then led him to ring up then President, Mark Wicks. Since that day, Will has played 99 Matches for the club (Round 3 will be his 100 game) where he has scored 1194 runs at an average of 16.14 with his highest score being a run a ball 82 at the Blackwood Football Club in 2008 where he hit 7 fours and 2 sixes. With the ball he has taken 174 wickets from 947.1 overs average 19.55 and a strike rate of 32.66. His best figures occurred in 2011 against ICC Sharks where he managed to get 7 for 44 from 12 overs. Will’s favourite moments at the club have been when he played in the Grand Final in the 2009/2010 season and just playing cricket with a good bunch of blokes. 2009/10 was also his most successful season for the club where he almost broke the record for the most wickets before Christmas with an impressive 31 wickets. He then went on to claim the Jack Hewett trophy for the most successful all rounder at the club that year. Outside of Coromandel, Will is an account manager and enjoys long walks along the beach and disco dancing to take his mind of things. His cricketing idol is Adam Gilchrist because he just “simply has a go and gives it his very best out on the field.” For the 2012/2013 season, Will has taken over the captaincy for the 3rd XI from Mark Lemmey where he has one simple of the season, ‘to win the premiership.’ Will is a very deserving winner of the ‘Pure Glass’ Player of the Month and we wish him all the best for the remainder of the season. Date – 1st of November 2012 Page No - 6 Official Magazine of the CCC Date – 1st of November 2012 The club has had a good start to season with some great results for all teams and some outstanding individual performances. Hopefully we can continue this good form for the rest of the season and push towards finals qualifications. We also had our first T/20 game last weekend against Morphettville Park with a good result. I look forward to another good result in Round 2 Moving forward, there is a lot of hard work to be done. I would like to see more out numbers at training because you get good results when you put in the hard yards. Good luck for all teams for the upcoming games and let’s bring home the bacon. GO CORO. ‘Henry’ & John Murphy in Round 2 Max Cheek fielding during the T20 Fielding Warm-up at the T20 Juniors in 2012/2013 This year has seen an increase to the juniors program with the inclusion of an Under 9’s team and an Under 11’s team as well as the continuation of the highly successful Milo cricket program. One of the calmest most relaxed people before an innings you’ll ever see. Except it seems that during round 1 of this season nerves got to him. First round jitters shall we say. He’d padded up, checked “yep box in”. All set and raring to go before he was kindly told “Coultsy, your pants are on backwards” and indeed they were. So for almost going out to bat with his pants on the wrong way, Coultsy is the first nominee for the prestigious 2012/2013 NACA award. Other Nominations Include: • Ben Scott for making a bet against himself that he wouldn’t take a 5 wicket hall. He lost that bet!!! • Ben Scott for taking a photo of the scorebook of his 6 wicket hall. • Gareth Bruce for taking something out of the fine tin. • John Murphy for taking a catch and then proceeding to throw it over the fence. Lucky it wasn’t called 6. • Gareth Bruce for running off the field during the T20 game to check his phone for the “time”. Page No - 8 Official Magazine of the CCC Date – 1st of November 2012 What GymbaROO does (that nobody else does) GymbaROO offers a comprehensive, early childhood development and parent education program for families with children 0 – 5 years of age. Parents/carers and their children attend a 45 minute session once a week to participate in a multisensory, sensory-motor, perceptual-motor program that is neuro-developmentally appropriate for each of the age groups. These programs are based on over 30 years of research in the neuro-development field. While children have fun rolling, spinning, tumbling, climbing, dancing and exercising their way to developmental readiness for school, parents learn about their child’s development and how they can help their children be successful achievers. What GymbaROO does for parents (that nobody else does?) Helping parents understand the importance of early development is a key to assisting children develop into successful learners and competent adults. GymbaROO: • • • • • Provides, research-based, comprehensive, and timely developmental information for parents about their children’s development from the ages of 6 weeks – 5 years. This information is not just about “health”, it links development to education and learning. Actively engages parents in their child’s development Explains to parents reasons why certain activities are developmentally beneficial (or detrimental) to a child’s development. i.e . . . . Too much television takes away from important play time. Tummy time helps develop strength in the upper body, so the baby can crawl & creep. This helps with stimulation of vision whi ch is important for reading. Strength in upper body is directly related to hand grip and pencil grip. Provides parents with ideas about how they can help their children’s healthy development i.e. activity ideas in the home to u ndertake with their infants and children in the home. Information is provided in a number of ways - enhancing parent learning o through verbal instruction during class sessions o via information posters hung in the GymbaROO centres o through weekly parent handouts o via “First Steps” – the GymbaROO education magazine for parents, [published 4 times a year) o through the activities that infants and children undertake at every GymbaROO session. What GymbaROO does for infants and children (that nobody else does) GymbaROO operates a highly researched program that provides infants and children with the opportunity to experien ces an environment that stimulates cognitive development, fine-motor and gross motor skill development, sensory development, perceptual development and vestibular development. The program is based on 25 years of accumulated knowledge and is based on the neuro-physiological development of the brain. For children to learn to read and write they need to understand the spoken language, follow and sequence information, have good vision and be able to visualize, be able to hea r and interpret sounds , coordinate and integrate their hands with their eyes, and their hands and eyes with their thought processes, as well as understand and interpret conce pt words. Children who have good gross and fine motor skills, can balance, hop, skip, competently throw and catch a ball, and have good body awareness are most likely those who are also able to achieve easily in the classroom. These skills all form the basis of good cortical function, from where higher learning (cognitive) skills arise. Physical and intellectual development depends on the experience and experiment of the senses. All GymbaROO classes (from 6 weeks of age through to 5 years) provide • • • • • age-appropriate equipment and class activities tailored to meet the developmental needs of the age of children attending opportunities for movement, sensory stimulation, gross and fine motor skill development, singing, dancing, age-appropriate exercises etc information for parents about the neuro-developmental basis for certain activities are being undertaken during the class highly trained, tertiary qualified teachers (teachers undergo on-going professional development in neuro-education) lots of time to have fun and play in an environment that is safe, and developmentally appropriate. GymbaROO is not a playgroup/mother’s group/day-care facility where children are left to their own devices in a somewhat controlled environment. Children must have a parent or a caregiver in attendance during the class – the education of parents is paramount to the success for the child - we want parents to go home and do what we do in a GymbaROO class - 45 minutes once a week is a good start – but it is not enough!
