To our Great Chefs Guests and Friends,
Thank you for joining us tonight for Great Chefs of Long Island. Family
Service League continues to be one of the premier human service
organizations throughout Long Island. We are thankful to all of you for your
support which enables us to continue to address the needs of Long Island
families as the social landscape continues to change.
We respond by advocating for better mental health programs, protecting
the rights of the frail and elderly, advocating and educating to ensure
homeless individuals and families are treated with respect and dignity, and
helping families to get through the profound loss of a loved one to suicide.
At Family Service League we invest in children and youth and strengthen
families; provide shelter, mental health and chemical dependency services
and housing to our most vulnerable neighbors. Your support helps us touch
the lives of approximately 50,000 people annually. With more than 55
programs across 21 sites Family Service League is a true safety net for
families of Long Island.
We are proud of our capacity to deliver high quality, outcome driven services
to help solve human service challenges. We continue to respond to change
and build partnerships which strengthen our work across Long Island.

The Company owns, or holds interest in, hundreds of apartment
communities with over 80,000 housing units in these markets. In addition,
at any given time, the Company has a number of communities under
construction and reconstruction as well as holding future development
rights for other communities.
AvalonBay’s newest community in Huntington Station features
thoughtfully designed one, two, and three-bedroom workforce and market
rate apartments for fellow Long Islanders. Located within walking distance
to the Huntington Long Island Rail Road station and a short drive to
Huntington Village, this $100 million investment will continue to provide
economic revitalization to the local Huntington Station economy. Avalon
Huntington Station opened in February 2014 and is currently 85% leased.
The community will be complete by the end of this year.

and function. She then studied at the New York School of Interior Design
and launched her own design firm, Katharine Jessica Interior Design, in 2003.
Katharine Jessica Interior Design is a multi-faceted boutique firm specializing
in both residential and commercial projects. Katharine, the firm’s principal,
oversees the planning of each project from the start of construction through
the finished product. Her work is featured in many regional and national
publications including New York Spaces magazine where she was recognized
as one of the “10 New Designers Under 40 to Watch.” Katharine has also
been featured in multiple Mansions & Millionaires Designer Showcases and
received the “Notable Designer” award in 2008 from Distinction magazine.
Katharine has been a member of the Board of Directors at Family Service
League since 2011. She served as a member of the Great Chefs Committee
since 2006 and as Co-Chair since 2008. She has also generously volunteered
her time and talents for Friends Academy, City Harvest Bid Against Hunger,
Ronald McDonald House Project Design and The Whit Whit Foundation for
Rhabdoid Tumor Research. Family Service League is honored to present
Katharine Posillico McGowan with the 2014 Community Leadership Award.

2014 Honoree
Restaurateur Award
After graduating from The Culinary
Institute in 1973 and working in
various venues, Tom Schaudel
opened his first restaurant, Panama
Hatties (Huntington), in 1983. He has
since been the driving force behind
such acclaimed L.I. restaurants as
Spring Close House (East Hampton), Downtown Grille and Wine Bar
(Montauk), 107 Forest Avenue (Locust Valley), Lemongrass (Roslyn),
Tease (Roslyn), Coolfish (Syosset), Thom Thom (Wantagh), Passionfish
(Westhampton Beach), Starfish (Merrick), The Jedediah Hawkins Inn
(Jamesport) and The Mansion at the Woodlands (Woodbury).
Growing up on Long Island and living on the East End has seriously
influenced Tom's culinary sensibilities, and his style has been described by
Michael Todd of Grapezine magazine as "Atlantic Rim." His current line-up
of restaurants includes Jewel by Tom Schaudel (Melville), Be-Ju Sashimi
and Sake Bar (Melville), Amano (Mattituck), Alure (Southold), The
Petulant Wino (Aquebogue), and Ross-Schaudel Catering and Event
Planning (Mattituck). Tom also has his own line of wines, under the Tom
Schaudel "Reserve" label, made here on the North Fork and served at all
of the restaurants.
He has been featured on such television shows as Gordon Elliot's Door
Knock Dinners on Food Network, Chef's Night Out on Metro Channel, and
has been a frequent guest chef on Long Island's own Channels 12 , 21, and
Telecare, The James Beard House in New York City, and Ed Lowe's
Morning Show. He has written a book called Playing With Fire-Whining
and Dining on the Gold Coast, about his one hundred wackiest customers
from the last forty years, and hosts a weekly food, wine, and lifestyle,
radio show of the same name on 1100 WHLI am every Saturday morning
from 10:00-11:00. He is also in a band, “Hurricane.
Tom has been a supporter of Great Chefs of Long Island since its inception
in 1992. He has attended every year showcasing at least one of his
fantastic restaurants and we are proud to present him with the 2014
Restaurateur Award.
