A Message from Our President
A Message from Our President
Jan., 2016
My Fellow Fagowees,
I hope Santa was good to you, even if Mother Nature wasn't.
December isn't over as I write this but it looks like we're going to set some
weather records…the wrong kind. So far every day in December multiple cities
are breaking high temperature records, some of them over 100 years old. We
aren't quite that warm in Cleveland, but there's no real snow in our near future.
Hopefully the forecasters are wrong and while reading this you'll be able to look
out your window and not see any grass.
This is not good news for skiers. I just saw a video posted by Mad River inviting
people to come and "Ski the patch". Their patch of man-made snow can't be
more than 25 feet long. It's looking like some local resorts may be breaking
records for the latest opening day.
Meanwhile out West they are getting dumped on. This is great for those who
have the time and money to head out there, but it just makes the rest of us
jealous.
We haven't seen any real snow this season - at least not yet, but it could be
worse. We don't get a lot of flooding (unless you are lucky enough to live on a
river.) We don't get hurricanes (except Sandy). And we usually only see rain or
snow falling from the sky (except when it hails.) In the Philippines there have
been reports of fish raining down from the sky. In Hungary it's frogs. In parts of
Australia it sometimes rains spiders! I'm not joking - look it up!
Lots of people are taking advantage of the warm weather by biking, golfing and
wearing t-shirts and flip flops. Some crazies are even water skiing! (No, that's
not me.) If it's still warm when you read this, quit complaining and take the
opportunity to go for a walk outside without wearing 6 layers.
I promise you, Winter is coming!

FAGOWEES of the MONTH
January, 2016
This month, the Trustees are nominating two of our members as the January
recipients of the Fagowees of the Month. During one of our meetings, an
AMPOL Hall employee came over to our side of the hall and asked for
help. Apparently, one of their customers in the bar area had fallen down (nonalcohol related fall) and she needed our help to get him up. These two
Fagowees members went over in the time of need: Mark H. and Brian
K. Mark & Brian used kindness to come to the rescue of the man, so that he
had dignity in getting back on his feet. Heck, haven’t we all fallen in times of
drunkenness? How embarrassing, right??! But this man, not drunk at all, needed
our help and two of our members helped preserve his dignity!
Over the years, Mark & Brian have helped out the club in other ways. Brian
organized the many unclaimed membership badges—alphabetizing them for the
Membership Chairman. Mark has tirelessly organized Houseboat each year.
Please congratulate these two fine men as our January Fagowees of the month.

Editor’s Note…
So, it wasn’t a BIG turnout, but it was BIG fun!
I’m talking about Alien 3D Vacation Mini-Golf, found at 260 South Court St., Medina, OH 44256
In the Lower Level of Castle Noel, 1/2 block South of Medina Square, door entrance is under the
overhang on the South Court Street Parking Lot.
We actually didn’t even have enough time to do a thorough tour of Castle Noel (but, of course,
we did get a visit with Santa!) Alien Golf is amazing! Mark Klaus, yes, his real name, is an area
sculptor and artist. Every effect, every electronic, every tree, shrub, flower… well, everything
comes from his mind and hands. Mark even designed the pattern in most of the carpeting
throughout, and the special effects are mind blowing.
Building Castle Noel was his dream since High School. We only got to explore the set from The
Christmas Story so we could tell Santa what we wanted. We also met Derek, an elf from the
movie, The Christmas Story, and Mark and I even rode the big, red slide from the movie!
So, for those of you needing a great fun night, with the kids, or without, check out Alien 3D
Vacation Min-Golf, and plan to take in Castle Noel, too!
The Winter Planning Party
Took place on Wednesday, September 30th at my house. The party was a wine
tasting event, in which 30 people attended. Aside from drinking nearly 2 cases
of wine (I know, shocking, right???), we did manage to accomplish some
business. Here is a sneak preview of some of the events that our trip leaders will
be bringing you this winter season…..
