RECENT OUTING—COFFEE RUN TO LENNOX HEAD—WEDNESDAY 12th AUGUST
The day began with a very interesting little thunderstorm cell passing through the region. Luckily it passed over
and the sun came out for us to travel from Lismore up to Lennox Head.
Eleven of us were able to meet at Quattro for a very nice coffee and cake feed - enough to last well past lunch.
The restaurant is across the road from the beach, so a lovely setting and outlook. We had a good chat and then
split up to have a wander down the streets of Lennox Head.
A couple of the wives were lost in the clothing stores, so the poor husbands were found wandering aimlessly
along the main street (probably talking about cars!).
The view at the beach was lovely, particularly looking up towards the headland. Some of our members stopped
at Pat Morton Lookout on the way home via the Coast Road, to get some exercise, have a wonderful viewing
platform, and to see some whales travelling south on their way home.
The morning was timed very well, as we got home just as another line of storms came over. See you at the next
coffee morning (September 9th).

NOTICES
AN UPDATE FROM ROGER ANSON.
“My Etype Jaguar is been auctioned at Shannon's in Sydney on 10 August . To ease the pain I
have purchased a Daimler SP 250 Dart. You may remember I mentioned to you at Bangalow Billy
Cart day I was looking for a Daimler.
After a tip off from Sydney that a Daimler SP250 restoration project was for sale I made enquires,
and after checking its details with the help of Daimler club UK discovered the car had been raced
by Ian Geoghegan.
The car raced and won at Warwick Farm, Lakeside, Katoomba and Bathurst.
I am sure this car will create a lot of interest I hope I can do it justice with its restoration.”

WEEKEND WITH QLD ROVER CLUB 8th/9th AUGUST
A small group from the Rover Club travelled from Brisbane via Brunswick Heads, where lunch was enjoyed at
the Hotel.
Arriving at Knockrow, the group met up with Summerland Club members for afternoon tea at Macadamia
Castle, followed by a visit to the home of Errol Sales. Errol kindly allowed us access to his extensive collection
of beautiful and interesting British vehicles.
Later we met up again for an enjoyable dinner at the Pioneer Tavern, Wollongbar.
On Sunday morning some members joined the Rover Club members for an interesting drive ending up at The
Channon and a visit to their famous market, where they still uphold their values of locally produced goods and
“Make It, Bake It, Grow It”.
An enjoyable weekend—please come back soon Qld Rover Club.

CLUB RUN TO NEW ITALY & ILUKA—SUNDAY 23RD AUGUST
Sunday was a day where the saying “Wouldn’t be dead for quids” gained its true meaning. The weather was
perfect and I think we all feel better knowing Spring is coming. Particularly those of us with convertibles!
Some members met in Lismore and came, via different routes, to New Italy. Others came directly to New Italy.
All together there were fifteen members at morning tea, Jim and Barb Hodgson, Barry and Kath Granatelli, Terry
and Norma Goldman, Rudy and Sue de Paauw, Ray and Lynda Lovett, Peter McGowan and Betty, Lex Cole, Brian
Sidney, Geoff Petitt. The new owners of the cafe provided a very nice morning tea and we sat outside to soak up
the sun. The gift shop and the museum were investigated as well.
After a leisurely morning tea we got back into our cars and motored south on the Pacific Highway. It was good to
see a section of dual carriageway open for traffic, so we made good time down to Iluka. Haven’t been there for a
couple of years, but it looked cleaner and fresher than I remember. The hotel however, is still a grand old dame
much in need of a face lift and tummy tuck. The food, however, was good and the location perfect. We were met by
Dale Hamilton and his family, from Yamba, to join us for lunch.
After lunch a few of us went for a walk to the fish co-op and harbour to see the fishing fleet. The sun was shining
and the jackets were discarded in a truly beautiful afternoon. Thanks to Terry for organising the day - he must
have a direct line in upstairs to deliver such a lovely day. Sue DePaauw
