QUALITY TESTS: IN THE SERVICE OF RELIABILITY
Lighting system are exposed to extreme stress. Not only
their function is decisive, but also the conditions under
which they maintain their functionality.
HELLA does not accept any compromises. All products
are subjected to extremely tough testing. The example of
headlamps shows the required effort:
Testing lab
Thermal testing in 24-hour test: For 24 hours, high and
low beam are alternated. Only the best material quality
can survive this test.
Shake and vibration test: This test simulates the
behaviour of headlamps during driving.
During this, the stability of the vertical and horizontal
axes is checked separately. The HELLA mechanisms can
withstand these requirements.
Spray water test: During this test, the headlamp is
continuously hit by a high-pressure water jet. Continuous
moisture in the headlamp leads to corrosion and
damages the inner headlight components. Only highquality headlamps pass this test.
Condensation test: The switched-off headlamp is
exposed to water vapour at 20 °C; this corresponds to
100% humidity in an extreme fog situation. Then the
headlamp is switched in. After a short while, the
condensation must have disappeared; otherwise, the
headlamp is not allowed to display the HELLA logo.
Light output: All HELLA headlamps are tested according
to internationally agreed-on regulations. A headlamp is
only a HELLA headlamp, if the standard values are clearly
surpassed.
The best are to be found where only quality counts.
The tough lab tests pay for themselves in harsh everyday
situations.
Whether it is in the jungles of Borneo or on race tracks –
HELLA headlamps and lights can withstand even the
toughest conditions.
It is not for nothing that the participants of the Land Rover
Challenge and the Aston Martin Racing Team rely on
proven HELLA high technology.

DYNAVIEW® EVO2: MORE LIGHT IN CURVES
DynaView® Evo2 combines the cornering light and fog
light safety functions in compact round auxiliary lights
which can be universally installed in many different
vehicles.

When the low beam is switched on, the right or left
cornering light is activated automatically and immediately
when the indicator is actuated or when the vehicle drives
round a bend at a speed of less than 40 km/h. A yaw rate
sensor measures the vehicle's angular acceleration and
triggers the turn-on signal when the car drives through a
curve.
At the end of the curve, a dimmer softly fades the extra
light. If the reverse gear is engaged, both cornering lights
are switched on and ensure broad and bright illumination
of the areas along the left and right front of the vehicle.

Design
A current trend in vehicle design is the customisation of headlight
design for daytime and night-time driving. The lighting technology
that we have further developed with our “LEDayFlex” daytime
driving lights is the foundation for exciting design solutions.
“LEDayFlex” light chains with 5 to 8 firmly connected LED light
modules can be integrated into an almost infinite number of
configurations in the vehicle front-end. In the process, they follow
the shape of the vehicle's contours in depth. “LEDayFlex” allows
for many different design options as long as they comply with
legal regulations.
Designs can include a powerful daylight-like light signal during
the day and, if desired, in versions with the option to switch over to
position lighting, also at night. This gives the designer a powerful
system.

The ultrasonic system is a headlight range adjustment system for
50 mm and 90 mm headlight modules for original equipment and
upgrading vehicles with xenon headlights. The system sensor
measures the distance from the underside of the vehicle to the road
surface and forwards the signal to the central control unit, which
then achieves optimum setting of the Xenon headlights via the
setting motors.

In some countries, legislation prescribes the
use of a lens cleaning system when Xenon

the water jet principle, which manages
without wipers and brushes by using the
kinetic energy from the thick water drops to

Combination examples:
Circular module without lighting function
The optimal program addition for the 60 mm Premium lights is the ring module. This ring module can be
used in many ways and is offered with taillight and brake light function (with 16 LEDs), as reflector or as a
decorative light without lighting functions.
It is available with a choice of clear or red cover lens. The rear brakelight ring module is equipped with a
3-pin waterproof Superseal connection plug.
The optimal installation of the 60 mm Premium lights with the ring module allows for a rear-side screw
attachment with an adapter ring.
In addition, it is possible to mount this combination on the outside of the vehicle. This is made possible by
an installation adapter equipped with a bayonet system (part number on request).

Operation of LED lights / LED headlights with AC voltage or synchronised DC
voltage is not permitted. In the ECE R48 area of application, by law, it is necessary
to ensure failure control for LED lights / LED headlights in the vehicle's electrical
system through suitable measures.
As checking of the indicators is required by law, we recommend operating the light
only in conjunction with the indicator control unit, HELLA part no. 5DS 009 552-... .
Due to the low power consumption of LED lights, which are distinctly different from
a bulb version, the proper functioning of bulb failure control must be checked when
they are integrated into vehicle electrical systems.
