They will be guaranteed to knock your socks off…and then you can donate those to the Thrift Shop. Ha! Ha! We look forward to seeing you all for our Grand Opening! This is Remy, a fun-loving and crazy little guy. Remy is full of energy and is always on the go. He will need a family that can give him lots of exercise and maybe even a furbrother or sister. Remy is only a puppy still, at 8-9 months old, and is full of that puppiness that we all love. Remy is a very sweet boy who loves, loves, loves to snuggle and get attention. Remy loves to run with other dogs and is proving to be a great agility dog as well. Remy also is a champion treat finder with that Beagle nose of his. We hide treats for him in our gym and, you guessed it, he finds EVERY one. HA! So, if you’re looking for a great pal who loves everything life has to offer, come and meet our boy, Remy. He’s waiting for his special Valentine to arrive! Happy Tails Fond Farewells This is Annie (aka Ally), who came to PAOC as a wee little pup and look at her now. With love and guidance she has turned into a fabulous member of her forever family. She is pictured here with her sister, Midnight (Shepherd). Don’t they make a great pair?!!? It’s so nice to see our former foster doing so well! We love and miss you, Have a question or comment? Send us your adoption stories, pictures of your rescued fur-friends, or comments to [email protected] Tell us how much you love your pet! We’d love to hear from you and maybe you’ll make our newsletter! Here’s another Annie, formerly Brenda, who was recently adopted by her forever family. She looks super and happy! She is fitting in with her new family perfectly and they love her to pieces, but how can you NOT love that gorgeous, smiling face of hers?!?? Hugs to you Annie, miss you lots! Page 2 R E S C UE T AI L S HOT DIGGITY DOG… We Got A Fur-ever Home! Page 3 Current Fur-Kids Looking For A Family Levi is a one year old domestic shorthair who loves to meow for some attention. He enjoys winding himself in and out of your legs and getting lots of love. It’s hard to get any work done around this sweet kitty as he just begs to be pet! Levi loves his mouse toys and chasing his ball around the laundry room. He’s full of personality and spirit. Levi loves to lounge around on our couch or on top of our dryers. We don’t blame him with this cold weather! Levi is an all around great feline friend! Stop out if you’re looking for a nice warm furball for your feet this winter! Page 4 Remi is an eight month old Beagle/Pug mix. He is full of love, life, and energy that we wish we could bottle and use ourselves sometimes. Ha! Remi is a very busy guy who is always on the go. He will need a family who can give him lots of exercise and love. He is a very intelligent boy and would be a super candidate for agility classes! He’s a quick little bugger in more than one aspect! Remi’s Beagleness comes out, as he does like to follow his sniffer. We like to hide treats for him to find and he’s a pro at recovering every last one of them! You can find Remi waiting for you to come see him at Paws! What can we say about dear Checkers? This sweet boy is a bundle of loving personality! Checkers is a two year old, male, Shepherd/Lab mix. He weighs about 65 pounds and is such a gentleman! Checkers seems to be good with cats. He and our foster, Levi, were nose to nose sniffing each other. Checkers does well with other dogs and kids. Checkers did test positive for Lyme, but please don’t let that scare you. It is very simply managed and he may not ever show any symptoms at all. Checkers is a happy boy who loves to play ball and run like the wind. He adores his snuggle time and lives for attention and treats! He’s an all around great boy looking for a family to love. Don’t Shop! Adopt! Meet our Brinkley, a new kid on the block! Brinkley is a four month old Husky/ Terrier/Schnauzer Mix who is just the sweetest little Valentine you could ever ask for! Brinkley came to us from someone who couldn’t care for him any longer. He was first thought to have a broken leg, but our little bug was lucky! He merely had a small infection, which is healing nicely every day. Brinkley loves to play and loves to snuggle. His booboo leg doesn’t seem to bother him one bit! He is such a good boy and will make someone a super addition to their family! How can you ignore that face and those ears?? They are simply to die for! This pretty girl, we call Sage, Not available for adoption just yet. came to us from local dog control. She was found wandering the streets, poor girl. Sage is a little on the skinny side, but we will fatten her up in no time flat. Sage is six month old Beagle/Shepherd mix who just loves attention and giving kisses. The poor thing has probably been starved for love for a long time and needs to make up for it. Sage has done great with our foster cats and seems to be good with other dogs. More testing needs to be done as she just popped through our door yesterday. Stop out and meet our sweet new kid on the block! We have a feeling she won’t be around for long! Page 5 Doris is our resident “ol’ lady at 10 years old. She is a very sweet Beagle/Hound mix. Don’t let that age fool you, she is still as spry as a year old pup! She loves to play and sniff and she especially loves her “cookies”. But who doesn’t, right? Doris had a skin tag by her eye removed and now she looks like a million bucks. She was a beauty already, but this surely made her more comfortable! Doris is a great gal who loves to snuggle and has even made friends with our little pup, Brinkley! She loves walks with our volunteers, but is also happy to cuddle up and just “be”. Won’t you please consider making room for our sweet Doris? Current Fur-Kids Looking For A Family Meet pretty girl, Delilah! She is a two year old, Husky/Rottweiler mix and what an awesome girl! Delilah was an “outside” dog who was surrendered by her owner because “she sheds too much”. She is a playful girl who loves attention and treats! Delilah just loves to frolic and romp in the snow, but she wants to snuggle with you inside and be apart of your family. Come meet our fuzzy girl, Miss Delilah and her beautiful eyes! One blue and one brown, you will be mesmerized by them and her sparkling personality! She desperately wants to be your Valentine’s Day Sweetie! She loves her friend Levi the cat and has also done well with a few of the foster dogs. She’s a pretty laid back kitty who likes to explore and snuggle. Her beautiful coloring is not to be missed. She is a gorgeous gal looking for a new family to love. Come see our Jezzibel! She’s waiting for you to take her home! Theodore is a happy, one year old Hound/Boxer Mix who came to us from the City Shelter. Theo is fine with cats and will even play bow to them. Silly man! The amazing story of our foster dog, Clark, needs to be retold, if only to educate people on what to do if you ever lose your dog. PAOC picked Clark up at the shelter this past summer in August. He had been there for a couple weeks already. Once Clark was with us, here at the kennel, we found that he hated to be confined in any space. It seemed he was always looking for a way to get out. After a few weeks, Clark was adopted by his new Dad and brought to his new home. After only a few short months Clark was returned to PAOC because his new Dad had to move out of state and could not keep him. Clark was welcomed back with open arms into the care of our wonderful volunteers. Still Clark hated to be confined and even as much as he was played with, exercised, and snuggled. Potential adopters fell in love with our boy online and finally came to meet him. Fate must’ve been on Clark’s side that day as his potential new family could not adopt him because of his strong dislike for cats. Their cat would’ve been terrorized. So, they moved on and adopted another one of our pups that fit their family better. Later that night PAOC received a call from a family “Clark’s” Paws Across Oswego County glamour photo above was taken the day he came to us from the shelter. And there is Champ reuniting with his original family to the right. Page 8 who had lost a dog in July, fitting Clark’s description. They gave us info that no one would know unless he was indeed theirs. They came to see him and burst into tears on sight. Clark (Champ) had found his original family!! We were elated and dumbfounded at the same time. He had been missing for so long! What are the odds? Champ is now back with his family and enjoying life, “unconfined”. We are so happy for Champ and his family. There are many avenues to use when you’ve lost a dog. Call and visit your local shelters with a photo in your hands! Call local Dog Control Officers and Rescues! Use online tools like Facebook and lost dog sites! Posters, flyers, etc. can spread the word. There are many people out there who are willing to help, even if it’s just to keep “an eye out.” Champ’s happy ending was a great start to our New Year! Good luck to Champ and his loving family! We will miss you here at Paws Across Oswego County! Paws Across Oswego County is a non-profit animal rescue organization based in Upstate NY. In addition, we also lend support to spay/neuter programs in area shelters, educate children and adults in promoting pet health and proper pet care. Through generous monetary donations, resource donations (toys, blankets, etc.), and volunteer services, our group hopes to continue to give a voice to animals Much “appaws” to all of our supporters! We thank you and are fortunate to have a community that cares about animals. When a foster is in need, we have always been able to care for it. We would not be able to without your help! A big thank you and many slobbery kisses from all of our fur-kids to you! You help us to help them! Volunteer Profile...find out why we do what we do! Why do you volunteer with PAOC? “I've always been an animal lover and have been actively involved in animal rescue for over a decade. Working with a successful group like PAOC enables me to help even more animals than I could on my own.” Do you have any pets of your own? “Yes, I have dogs and cats. Most of my fur kids were considered "unadoptable" due to age, health, or behavioral issues, so ended up staying with me by default.” How did you get started with PAOC? “ I was invited aboard about a year and 1/2 ago by a couple of PAOC veteran volun- teers.” Do you have a favorite adoption story? “It's really hard to choose just one story. The rescues that touch my heart the most are the dogs that come from terribly neglectful and abusive situations and somehow maintain this giant capacity to love and trust people.” If you could give one piece of advice to pet owners, what would it be? “Please do not adopt unless you are able to commit to that animal for its entire life.” When you’re not volunteering, what can you be found doing? “When I'm not at work, you'll find me spending time with my family and fur kids.” What’s the most rewarding part of rescue? “The most rewarding part of rescue for me is knowing that I have helped a being that could not help itself.” What’s the hardest part of rescue? “The ones that I couldn't save, haunt me, however, doing everything I can to make a difference to the animals that I can helps me sleep at night.” A round of “a-paws” for Carrie and all that she does to help our fabulous fur-friends!
