Crappie Masters Lake Fork, Texas hosted the Ozark Rods One Pole Ultimate Challenge this past weekend where fifty two teams from thirteen different states came to compete in the one pole, artificial bait only formatted tournament. As advertised, Lake Fork produced high weights and another exciting weigh-in with only ounces separating the top spots. Texans, Anh Nguyen and Richard Crilley out gunned the field with an impressive seven fish limit weighing 15.16 pounds to claim the first One Pole Ultimate Challenge title of the 2016 season. Nguyen and Crilley caught their fish in 7-12 foot of water, just off of the bottom, on gray hair jigs. The team received a check for $4250.00 which included a $250.00 bonus, donated by the Missouri Corn Growers Association and American Ethanol, for using E10 gasoline in their boat. They also received two 11 foot Ozark Rods and two 10 foot Ozark Rods for winning the Ozark Rod sponsored event. The Missouri Soybean Merchandising Council team of Charlie and Kevin Rogers, Missouri, finished in second place with 14.92 pounds and also weighed in the big crappie of the tournament at 2.98 pounds. The father and son team were fishing in 14-17 foot of water, catching their crappie just off of the bottom, using 10’ Ozark Rods and Bobby Garland 3” Slab Slayer double silver rainbow jigs. The Rogers’ are sponsored by the Missouri Soybean Merchandising Council and their checkoff, Ozark Rods, Bobby Garland, Mercury, Power Pole, 1/3 Crappie Masters Bass Cat, and Midwest Marine, They took home a check for $2714.00 and two 10’ Ozark Rods. The Missouri Corn Growers Association and American Ethanol team of Kevin Jones and Billy Don Surface, Missouri, weighed in 14.84 pounds and finished in third place. Jones and Surface caught their crappie on black and pink jigs, 10 foot deep, in 12 foot of water on 12’ BnM jig poles and cashed a check for $1000.00. They are sponsored by the Missouri Corn Growers Association, American Ethanol, BnM Poles, Power Pole, Mercury, Muddy Water Baits, Phoenix Boats, K2 Coolers, Ellis Battery, and Brahler’s Trucks. Ronnie Ennis and Bow Gates, Texas, won the Adult/Youth division with 7.36 pounds. They received a $100.00 Bass Pro Shops gift card and a $100.00 Everhart’s Sporting Goods gift card. The top finishing Male/Female team with 14.03 pounds went to Vic Finkley and Kim Gray,Mississippi.
