Dear Resident
We are experiencing a rise in the number of fires
in your local area involving fly-tipped sofas,
furniture, wheelie bins and loose refuse.
We are asking all residents to help us reduce the
number of fires by following three simple steps below:
1: U
se the FREE Bulky collection service
01254 388 111
2: Keep your bin secure within your property,
only place it out on the morning of your collection
and return it to your property as soon as
possible after collection.
3: Report fly-tipping or build up of refuse
01254 388 111
By following these simple steps you can make
a difference to your community and local
environment. This will help to reduce the cost to
the fire service, the council and ultimately your
council tax.
FACTS
1: Over the last 5 years 56% of all deliberate
fires involved fly tipped furniture, loose refuse
or wheelie bins.
2: 1700 deliberate fires affected dwellings
and other private outdoor properties.

Remember, the Council’s service is limited to a
maximum of 6 acceptable items per booking per
calendar month. Please note that for insurance
reasons, crews are not permitted to remove items
from inside the property itself.
How can I dispose of waste from the nonacceptable item list?
Please remember, there are hefty fines if your waste
is fly-tipped. If the items you require removing are
not eligible for the Council’s free collection service,
you should consider the following alternatives:• Recycling Lives is an award-winning charity,
operating a bulky waste collection service via its
commercial arm (www.bulkywaste.org). They will
collect most items on the non-acceptable list and
re-use and recycle as much of it as possible.
Please note there is a charge for this service.
• Your Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment
can now be recycled in store. Retailers now
have a responsibility under the W.E.E.E.
Regulations to allow customers to return items
free of charge when purchasing a similar
replacement item i.e new kettle for old kettle.
• Take your waste to a household waste recycling
centre Tel: 0845 0500957 or visit www.
lancashire.gov.uk and type ‘household waste
recycling centres’ in the search box.
• Use a reputable waste removal company. You must ask for a duty of care note from the
company. This is a legal document that will
inform you which licensed waste disposal facility
your waste will be taken to and confirms they are
legally licensed to carry waste.
Don’t pay a ‘man in a van’ without seeing this
documentation!
