First time guests, two couples – one from Chicago and the other from Memphis – were wowed by the Museum and the collection. Dave and Leslie Robbins Jim Schantz, Chairman, Board of Trustees Kevin Farrell, former Trustee What an atmosphere…the bars were set up on old baggage carts…the lighting was moody. The mood was set at the ticket booth…Bill and Donna Griglock were all about the Roaring 20’s! Guests in costume created a convincing throwback to the Prohibition era. The first-ever Seashore Trolley Speakeasy on August 22, designed
to attract new visitors and to be a development and marketing tool,
met its marks.
We established new relationships with Sponsors, raffle prize donors and vendors, and strengthened ties with old friends,
generated a lot of press in new places and most of the guests were new to Seashore! The cars used for cocktail lounges
were clean, illuminated, and shown at their best. We demonstrated how Highwood and the Pine Grove can function for
future Museum events and private rentals.
Even after first-time costs that helped fund permanent electrical improvements to Highwood Barn, improvements to the
exhibits in Highwood, and landscape improvements to the adjacent Pine Grove, the event netted about $5k.
Many businesses and individual volunteers contributed to the success of the event, and every time I list them all I forget someone..
