With 10 days’ worth of fabulous activities, it’s hard to get to everything. That’s understandable. But there are certain events taking place this first weekend that are absolute mustsees/must-dos. They include: * Lighting the Dock Square tree. This takes place at 5:30 p.m. Friday night and is the official kick-off for all of Prelude. Sure, there are crowds, but you won’t mind when you hear the beautiful carols, courtesy of the Kennebunk High School Chamber Choir, floating out into the night air, and then BAM! The lights come on and you’ll feel like the Christmas season has truly arrived. * Hat Parade. Taking place at 3 p.m. Saturday, this year is the 10th year for this awesome event. Don a colorful and creative cap of your own, or line up on Dock Square and Western Avenue and watch the parade pass you by. There are prizes for the most creative chapeaus, and people really go ALL out! * Head over to Washington Hose Fire Station at 4:30 p.m. Saturday for the 34th annual lobster bake. Is it fancy? Nope. You’ll sit at long tables in the fire station bays, side by side with dozens of other diners, as you eat. But is it a real Maine experience? Yup. And there are even hamburgers and hot dogs for those non-seafood eaters. *Done with your lobster? Candlelight caroling at the Franciscan Monastery starts at 6:30 p.m. and is one of the most serene, heart-lifting parts of the whole weekend. Lift your voice and find your spirits lifted. *Santa’s arrival by lobster boat happens at 2 p.m. Sunday at the dock at David’s KPT. Complete with lobster elves, it’s a true Maine holiday moment.
