Merge - Public Meetings:
After several months of discussion, study, and planning, the Library Merge Study Committee is
ready to hold public meetings to provide information about the potential county wide library
consolidation, answer questions, and listen to both concerns and words of support. I know that
emotions often run high in a situation like we are facing, and a normal byproduct of that is
rumors about what a potential merge might mean to you, our taxpayers and patrons. That is why
I strongly encourage you to attend one of the meetings that will be held in November. The
Committee, our staff, and our board members want to give you the opportunity to share your
thoughts and ideas before the final plan is written by the Committee and a final decision is made
by each of the separate library boards in January. If you are unable to attend one of the
following meetings, PLEASE call or email me with your questions, concerns, ideas, fears, or
words of encouragement.
Meeting dates, times, and locations:

Noble County Author Signing
Monday, December 6
5:00pm-7:30pm
NCPL Central is excited to host this special event for one of our own! Author, Nathan Marchand is
one of Noble County’s aspiring writers. Nate was born June, 9 in 1983 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. In
first grade, he began his homeschooling years. Once he reached sixth grade, Nate discovered a
talent and later a passion for writing. He was given an assignment to write a ―fanciful story‖ so he
crafted one about his toys coming to life and battling each other. Eventually, Nate expanded into writing other stories and
genres. He has wanted to write science fiction since his dad introduced him to the original ―Star Trek‖ at age three.
Nate Marchand attended Taylor University of Fort Wayne from 2002-2006, earning a BA in professional writing. He was
taught by Dr. Dennis E. Hensley (better known as ―Sir‖ or ―Sarge‖), one of the premiere writing instructors in the country.
While there, he wrote for The Express, the school newspaper, and Calliope, the literary magazine, and authored various
freelance articles. He worked as a reporter for the Bluffton News-Banner in Bluffton, Indiana, from 2007-2008. He now
writes as the Narnia Examiner for www.examiner.com, and as a freelance writer.
His first novel, Pandora’s Box, was published by Absolute Xpress and can be purchased at www.Amazon.com.
His literary influences include C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, Robert Heinlein, and Orson Scott Card. His favorite books are
The Lord of the Rings, C.S. Lewis’ Space Trilogy, The Chronicles of Narnia, Starship Troopers, and Ender’s Game.
When not writing, he enjoys other creative endeavors like photography, acting, and amateur filmmaking. He has been
described as ―a man with a pen and the heart to back it up.‖
Pandora’s Box by Nathan Marchand
Pvt. Brewer is a military brat living in a ―utopian‖ world. Following in her father’s footsteps, she enlists in
the Vanguard. She fought her way to the top of her chauvinistic class at the Academy, earning the right
to join the world’s most elite peacekeeping force. Life, like the world, was perfect: she was surrounded
by great friends, had an adoring family, and was engaged to a handsome fiance.
But an enigmatic leader known only as ―the Overlord‖ rises up behind the walls of the New Iron Curtain
that cages the oppressed Camp Countries. He rallies the Undesirables—criminals, Neo-Communists,
Muslim extremists, and countless others—on whose backs the ―utopia‖ was built, around a common enemy. Not content with an army, he unleashes a deadly virus that destroys everything Brewer holds dear,
shifts the balance of power, and plunges the world into global war. She joins the fight, vengeance slowly
eating away at her with every friend she loses on the battlefield, but no amount of bloodshed slakes her
thirst for revenge. Only after killing some of the virus’ zombie-like victims when they’re used as cannon fodder by the
Overlord’s ―New Order‖ does guilt overwhelm her, pushing her to the brink of suicide.
Wavering between despair and her father’s faith, she accepts a top-secret mission to help defend a base that now
houses the world’s last stockpile of WMDs as part of a disarmament program intended to end the war, in hopes of finding
redemption. But the New Order attacks. Col. William Brewer—her father and C.O.—tasks her with putting the base into
lockdown, and she nearly dies doing so. Now she is the sole protector of a coveted Pandora’s Box.
Can one woman halt the apocalyptic ambitions of a relentless dictator?
Do you dare open Pandora’s Box to find out?
