Named for an early Dutch settler and former pirate, rugged scenery and colorful folklore make up Jost Van Dyke. With fewer than 300 inhabitants, it measures just four miles by three. White Bay is one of the world’s most beautiful beaches, and a visit of the Virgin Islands is not complete without a stop at the infamous “Soggy Dollar Bar” which takes it’s name from the sailors swimming ashore (since there is no dock) to spend wet bills. Jost van Dyke: 600$ Jost, Indians&Caves, Norman Island, Willy T. Norman is one of a number of islands reputed to be the inspiration for Robert Louis Stevenson’s pirate novel Treasure Island. Today, it hosts the infamous floating bar Willy T. There is great snorkeling at the Caves and Indians. Caves: 3 water-level caves at the base of cliffs just outside the western edge of The Bight. They are ideal for snorkeling, and, if one goes deeply enough into the cliffs, darkness makes the experience like a night dive. The Indians are an amazing deep water snorkel. Jost, Norman, Willy T: 750$ Virgin Gorda Day Trip The Baths are a sublime jumbled collection of sky-high granite boulders by the sea they make Virgin Gorda one of the BVI’s major tourist destinations. The rocks are made of volcanic java from about 70million years ago and form a series of grottoes that fill with water and shafts of kaleidoscopic sunlight and look truly otherworldly. Virgin Gorda also has some very beautiful bars and restaurants, that are calmer, more relaxed and upscale vs. the typical island-style ramshackle watering holes, for example Coco Maya, where there are low sofas and loungers right on the beach.
