whom is one of the co-directors of the Sankofa After School Program. The camp is intended
to provide a quality summer camp program for children ages 5 through 12 to enhance the
development of the whole child. The camp was committed to implementing curriculum goals
to foster self-esteem, cultural pride and motivation for academic and social success.

CANAAN CHRISTIAN ARTS DANCE CAMP
The Canaan Conservatory for Arts & Music 2014 Summer Arts Camp was held June 20th to
August 22nd, 2014. The theme for the camp this year was “In Step & In Tune”. The ages for
the camp was 6 to 16 and their motivation was to find their Inner Pop star while dancing and
singing. At the CCAM Arts Camp, dancers and singers grow and develop their artistry and
technique in an environment that is challenging, focused and supportive. With limited class
sizes, students receive individual attention from a faculty of professional dance and music
educators. The camp season ends with a recital that everyone is invited to attend.

Lott Carey was born a slave but became
the first American Missionary to Africa.
While in Liberia engaging in Evangelism
and Education, Carey established the
First Baptist Church of Liberia called
the Providence Baptist Church of
Monrovia.
The Lott Carey movement was founded
in 1897 by African-American Baptists
who were committed to a substantial
foreign mission thrust – especially on
the African continent. They believed
that nothing should distract the church
from executing its primary objective of
advancing God’s mission throughout the
world. Since the founding, Lott Carey
Foreign Mission Convention has singlemindedly invested in Christian missions
around the world.
Each year the convention is held in
different states hosted by churches that
support the Lott Carey mission. This
year Lexington Kentucky will be hosting
the convention from Sunday, August
10th through Friday, August 15th, 2014.
Canaan will be sending three members
of our Missionary Ministry (Elaine D.
Grant, Karen Boardley-Lawrence and
Adele Walker) to the convention.
SUNDAY BUS SHUTTLE SERVICES
Please be advised that hours of operation
of the shuttle bus are between 7:30 AM
and 10:00 AM from Chelten Avenue
parking lot to the Church. Bus service
will resume after the conclusion of
worship.
