With over forty years experience, he makes his knives with old country craftsmanship. Using various steel and handle material; each knife takes on its own unique character. He makes fine handcrafted knives to perfection, from the design concept to the meticulously hand rubbed finish of each knife. Attention to detail is a priority that shows in all of his work. He makes his own beads, washers and thumb studs. Starting with steel bar stock, he begins to shape each blade in true artistic form. Every knife has its own unique set of handles (scales), that he has handcrafted to fit. All file work done is by a steady hand, using a wide variety of his own self made files and jeweler’s tools, one tiny cut at a time. Some of his knives in the file work and in the thumb stud will have an inlay. Carlton’s trademark is the leather lanyard; loop-laced and has beads made from the same material as the handle. Each bead is individually hand cut, shaped and polished. The screws are heat colored and the titanium liners are jeweled and anodized. They were designed after two factory Colt first generation patterns selected personally by Charlton Heston, after looking at a number of factory engraved guns from the Holden collection. Only 25 deluxe guns and 88 standard guns were produced prior to Mr. Heston’s passing. Only 15 two gun sets were ever assembled. These guns are master engraved and beautifully finished in blue and case by Doug Turnbull. The deluxe gun features four gold bands and carved ivory grips. Both guns are embellished in gold, with Mr. Heston’s signature on the back strap and his years as NRA President on the butt. A stunning set and nearly impossible to find. We operate in the remote backcountry of the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness, adjacent to the northern boundary of Yellowstone National Park. The donated six day elk hunt is for two hunters and will be based out of our comfortable lodge during the opening week of rifle season. All meals are included. There will be one guide to two hunters. The first day of hunting in 2009 is October 25th. Since there were several hundred leftover guaranteed licenses for the 2009 season, you have the unique opportunity to still purchase licenses while supplies last for this year. If not, the hunt is good for 2010 as well. Cost of license is not included. I personally guide, and my crew of guides is the best to be found. We all work as a team, and do not feel satisfied until every hunter in camp fills out. Your success of hunting and killing an elk is our main goal! “I live and hunt just North of Yellowstone National Park. Many outfitters come here to fill their personal tags! I have been in business 22 years and my clients from my first year are still returning, year after year. My hunters have taken close to 2,000 bull elk along with numerous deer, bear, goat, moose, mountain lion, buffalo and sheep with Hell’s A-Roarin. Remember, the rewards of choosing quality and excellence are not to be underestimated!” Donated by Warren Johnson, Founder & Owner I T E M 5 Ruger X G I Rifle in .308 Win This is a very rare Ruger XGI rifle, serial number 800-01329, chambered in .308 Winchester. Less than 100 were fully assembled. It was rollmarked on December 12, 1984 and has a 5-round magazine. Announced in 1984, Ruger never commercially sold any XGI rifles. Bill Ruger put the project on hold indefinitely in 1985 when he decided not to expend additional engineering efforts to improve the rifle’s accuracy. This rifle will be shipped with a Ruger XGI instruction manual, and in its original Ruger shipping box. The Ruger XGI was an autoloading centerfire rifle based on the design of the Ruger Mini-14 rifle, scaled up for larger cartridges. While the Mini-14 was chambered for the .223 Remington cartridge, the XGI was designed for both the .308 Winchester and .243 Winchester cartridges. The XGI was slightly longer and heavier than the Mini-14, but retained the essentials of both the Ruger Mini-14 and the proven M1 Garand/M-14 designs used by the military. Its red recoil pad was to be standard, and like the Mini-14 Ranch Rifles, it had Ruger scope bases machined integrally into the receiver, side ejection, a fold-down auxiliary adjustable aperture sight, and a blade front sight. While you might have seen one of his products at a silhouette or bench-rest match, his specialty is the big-bore double rifle used for hunting dangerous game in Africa. Butch’s first double rifles were conversions of Ruger and Browning shotguns. In 1993 he designed and then began building his own rifle. His objective was to produce an extremely reliable, accurate and affordable “tool [his word] for serious hunters.” His perspective on how that should be done was forged by his own big-game hunting experience and a long relationship with executives of PHASA, the Professional Hunters Association of South Africa. Currently more than 40 African PHs—licensed Professional Hunters—carry Searcy rifles. Flanking each side of the painting, triangles represent the Oregon Mountains; the bottom corners depicted the hunt’s critical turning point: a herd of 30 or more on the move. “Seeing fresh sign raised my hopes and temperature, even as the pounding sleet soaked through my gear. The results: my first elk, a 6 x 7, and this painting.” This piece provides a glimpse into the life of ancient man, based on petroglyphs found in Lascaux Cave located near the Bordeaux region of France. Lascaux is historically significant as it holds nearly 1,500 Paleolithic paintings left by ancient man. Discovered and opened to the public in 1940. Lascaux was closed in 1963, due to deterioration of the paintings. Laurel captures one of the world’s greatest fading treasures in this original. He felt that an education in biology, anatomy and physiology were necessary components to becoming a wildlife artist. But, even as a child, he had a passion for animals and a desire to capture their essence. Christopher’s grandfather encouraged him to carve in wood, but he was soon frustrated by its limitations, the lack of motion that could be portrayed. In college, when he was introduced to casting in “the lost wax method,” he knew immediately that he would become a bronze sculptor. Approaching his third decade of sculpting, Christopher creates art to increase people’s awareness of wildlife and to reveal to them nature’s inherent beauty. His desire is to express the reverence he feels when he observes animals in their natural habitat. “My favorite part of sculpting is finding an intriguing design for an animal subject, one that reveals a unique and characteristic movement.” Christopher is especially recognized for his bird sculptures. His waterfowl fountains are his signature pieces, and they have earned him a following of collectors worldwide. Model 98 Bravo .338 Lapua Mag From the highly efficient muzzle brake to the user-adjustable butt plate, the Barrett Model 98B is visibly revolutionizing the world of longrange precision rifles. Barrett engineers threw out the book when they sat down to develop a purpose-built platform for precision long range shooting. Even the casual observer can see that the M98B has not descended from a bolt action deer rifle. Drawing on Barrett’s experience designing long range rifles, the Model 98B’s modular layout allows the end user to adapt the rifle to fit their exact needs. Of all the species we hunt, we consistently produce trophy mule deer. There is nothing prettier (or tastier) then a mountain Muley and the mule deer in our area are among the best in Montana. We can either provide a guided mule deer hunt exclusively, or in combination with elk and bear. Over the years, we have produced outstanding mule deer success, with nearly every hunter going home with a great deer. In the past three years we have taken several deer with antler spread greater then 30 inches, and scores nearing 200 B&C. In Montana mule deer are not the same all over, the mountain mule deer in our area are not like the mule deer you will find in the deserts of other western states. Mountain mule deer’s unique diet result in large antler base mass, as well as deep chocolate coloration of the antlers. The mule deer grow quite large, and it is not uncommon for a deer to exceed 300 pounds fully dressed. Our guided mule deer hunts are on horseback, for the ultimate western hunting experience. Given the size and range of the mule deer in our area, hunting on horseback is a must. The son of a professional guide and outfitter, Rip developed an innate understanding and appreciation of nature and wildlife. An early apprenticeship in taxidermy established an intimate familiarity with wildlife physiology and form. He soon began sculpting professionally and producing works in bronze that capture the spirit of the animal figure. Rip Caswell’s artworks can be found in collections throughout the U.S. and abroad. Rip’s work continues to attract personal collectors, and is popular with everyone from the casual gallery buyer to devotees of traditionally crafted bronze artworks. Well-known collectors of Rip’s work include such notables as Vice-President Dick Cheney and General Norman Schwarzkopf. This bronze sculpture was modeled after the world record Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep taken in Alberta, Canada. The ram is a creature of beauty and strength, and this one in particular possesses an incredible pride and poise. Dimensions: 18 x 15 x 14 inches. It weighs a little over seven pounds and is made to take adverse weather conditions and punishment associated with hard mountainous hunting. Like the Signature, the Windwalker is 100% Jarrett made. Barrel, action and stock are all designed to work together. The Windwalker is wonderfully balanced and still weighs enough to be shootable. The Windwalker barrel has a special taper and a 1/10th deviation standard full length. It’s crowned at 24,” with muzzle brake, and uses the Jarrett Tri-Lock action described in the Signature series. The rifle uses the Talley mounting system. We develop an accuracy load for each Windwalker and we guarantee it to deliver 7/10ths M.O.A. or better at 100 yards. You get 20 loaded rounds and a ballistic print out.
