Used oil must be stored properly in a clean,
uncontaminated container. It is ILLEGAL to transport more
than 5 gallons of used oil in your personal vehicle.
Please call 1-800-CLEANUP or visit www.Earth911.com for
locations to recycle used motor oil and oil filters.
Participants will receive a FREE
Shop Towel, Funnel, Filter Bag,
and Drainer Container!*

CVAG Announces 2014 Schedule of FREE Used Oil Filter Exchange Events
In 2013, the Coachella Valley Association of Governments hosted seven used oil filter
exchange events throughout the Coachella Valley. The success of these events was
amazing! Last year, Coachella Valley residents exchanged 1,159 used oil filters for free
filters.
Let’s double those numbers at the 2014 events! The City of Desert Hot Springs, in
association with the Coachella Valley Association of Governments, will be hosting a
used oil filter exchange event at the AutoZone located at 12660 Palm Drive in Desert Hot
Springs on Sunday, April 6, from 9 a.m. to noon. Bring in your used oil filter and receive
a coupon for a FREE oil filter (up to $6.99, coupon must be used during event). Also,
don’t forget to bring in your used oil for recycling! In appreciation for your participation,
you will receive an oil drainer container, shop rags, funnels, and other fun giveaways
(while supplies last). If you can’t make this event, check your city’s website for the
complete schedule of 2014 Used Oil Filter Exchange Events. You do not have to be a
resident of the city hosting the events. Events are open to all Coachella Valley residents.
Many people are not familiar with the problems that used oil (and filters) can pose to the
environment. When used oil is thrown in the trash or down the storm drain, it will leak
into our underground water supply. This will contaminate our drinking water and kill
plants and ocean life.
What can you do to help prevent this pollution? Always recycle your used oil and used
oil filters at the certified used oil collection center. You can find the most convenient
center by visiting www.calrecycle.ca.gov or www.Earth911.org. Used oil filters can
contain up to 8 ounces of oil and should be drained prior to recycling. Never place used
oil or used oil filters in the trash!
Can’t make it to a Used Oil & Oil Filter Exchange Event? Don’t worry! You can contact
Desert Valley Disposal Services for curbside pick-up of your used motor oil and oil
filters on your regular trash collection day at (760) 327-7283. Please call 24 hours in
advance of your regular trash pick-up.
