Take a Look Back at a Very Special Year
M
erry Christmas and
Happy New Year from
the entire Shepherd’s
Field family to you and your families! This
year was filled with many blessings, and
we’re grateful to each and every one of you
for your faithful love, prayers and support of
the work God is doing here. What a blessing
it was to witness 25 of our beautiful children
find their Forever Families this year, 14 kids
receive life-changing surgery, and 10 new
children join our Shepherd’s Field family. We
also saw the completion of the second floor
of the new Vocational Training Center, which
was a miracle in itself. As we look forward
to 2012, we can see the final two floors
completed and filled with happy children,
learning to become independent and selfsufficient. Thanks to you, this is always made
possible – we thank God continually and pray
for each and every one of you.

Meet Our 10 New Arrivals
W
e were blessed this year with the addition of 10 new children to our Shepherd’s Field family, who
came to us from eight different government-run orphanages around China. Most of them were sent to
Shepherd’s Field because their home orphanages lacked the resources to help them with their special
needs, which range from several complex heart conditions to a simple birthmark to a deformed ear. The children range in
age from a few months old to 13, and our medical team is quickly working on establishing the proper treatment plan for
each child. Once surgeries are completed – some serious and others fairly simple – we’ll work on finding loving families
to adopt them. In the meantime, we need sponsors. Three of the 10 already have sponsors, but the rest still need someone

Forever Families Find 25 Children

hanks to your love, support and advocacy in 2011, 25 children were adopted by families in nine different
countries around the world. One of our adoptees, seven-year-old Jerak Robbins, has been part of our
Shepherd’s Field family since he was two months old. You can imagine how hard it was for all of us to say
goodbye, but we realize that the greatest gift we can give these precious children is a family of their very own. It is our hope

Surgery Changes 14 Lives
B
roken children from Shepherd’s Field continue to be
transformed into beautiful stories of redemption and
love – in 2011 our medical team successfully found
life-changing surgery for 14 of the neediest members
of our family. Every medical miracle was made possible because of
your generous contributions, which have changed lives forever.
Philip had surgery in Shanghai on
Mar. 21 to remove a deep pressure sore
Macy had heart surgery on Apr. 14.
Due to complications, she spent a total of 83 days in
hospital, which included 26 days in the ICU
Max had surgery to remove an unusual chest band, and
surgery to separate the fused first and second fingers of
his left hand on Apr. 18
Ethan had his cleft palate surgically
repaired on Apr. 19
Gunner had a successful cleft lip repair on Apr. 19
Olivia had successful cleft lip surgery on Apr. 22
Clyde had successful cleft palate surgery on Apr. 22
Diane had successful cleft palate surgery on Apr. 28
Stacey had her last plastic surgery operation to repair a
facial scar on May 16
Jacob Jai had a successful operation
on his left foot on Aug. 9
Grace had surgery to move her anal opening further
away from her urethra on Mar. 22.
She was adopted to the USA on Aug. 21
Isabella had three surgeries for a recto-vaginal fistula
on Jul. 8, a second operation on Jul. 13 to correct a
complication, and a colostomy on Sept. 8
Shanna had two operations for an anal fistula repair
on Jan. 11, followed by reversal of
her colostomy on Nov. 4
Toby had surgery on Nov. 19 for a broken leg
While there is much to celebrate, our new arrivals still have
desperate needs. Nine-month-old Austin needs to have a heart
operation within the next few weeks to increase his oxygen level.
Though his oxygen level is good, eight-month-old Liam needs
holes in his heart closed to avoid complications in the future. In
addition, Liam has a potentially life-threatening large inguinal
hernia. Natalie Bryne is a nine-month-old who needs surgery to
repair a serious defect in her aorta, the largest artery in the body.
Because heart defects and their complications often get much
worse over time, it’s critical to get this done within the next few
months. It could make the difference between a short, difficult life
and one that’s normal. Amelia is a 5½-year-old girl with Down
syndrome, who comes to us from the high-altitude region of
Qinghai province. She needs surgery to repair a heart condition
called Tetralogy of Fallot.
The total cost of these four children’s surgeries is US$54,200 or
