don’t ski? don’t worry…
If you don’t ski or board, or you don’t want to ski or board all the time, don’t worry, there’s plenty to do in Canada’s
winter. What about a white Christmas? With the pine-scent of Christmas trees drifting over a snow covered landscape,
sleigh bells ringing and lights twinkling, snow falling while you’re curling up by a roaring fire.
catch a train
Why settle for one Christmas tree when you can have millions? Take a winter rail tour through the winter wonderland of our spectacular Canadian
Rockies – land of a million Christmas trees!
Enjoy the journey and the destinations on VIA Rail’s Snowtrain.
eat, celebrate
Share Canadian Christmas traditions at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge with its ‘Christmas in November’ celebration – a tribute to the 12
days of Christmas. A unique event at Sun Peaks is the annual Icewine Festival in January, a five day celebration of food and wine. Banff is
host to the Banff Mountain Film Festival in late October/early November and the World Ski and Snowboard Festival is held in Whistler each April.
ice hotel, québec
Each January, Québec City is home to an ice hotel; a creation that includes a cinema, art galleries, a chapel, accommodation for over 100 guests
and a bar where vodka is, naturally, served “on the rocks”. The structure is rebuilt every winter and accepts guests for three months.
natural wonders
The winter display at the Butchart Gardens in Victoria, British Columbia is a magical sight with a lavish display of lights illuminating the sky. Or watch
the aurora borealis, the Northern Lights, that have piqued imaginations for thousands of years; swaying streamers of pale green, pink and blue light
arch and dance in the winter months from vantage points around Alberta, Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Churchill Manitoba and in the far
north of the provinces.
stay active
Try one of the many winter activities available off the slopes, like dog-sledding, snowmobiling, ice skating, ice fishing, snow shoeing, taking a sleigh
ride or catching the excitement of an ice-hockey match or test your mettle ice-climbing.

Make new tracks in your Canadian winter adventure riding the powder on
spectacular mountain peaks and through beautiful forests.
Enjoy the camaraderie of a guided group, using snow-cats or helicopters for
a lift to the top of slopes of unlimited variety, often with no sign of civilisation.
While it will challenge your technique and fitness, this is not the exclusive
domain of experts; skiers and boarders of intermediate level or above can
take a cat-skiing or heli-skiing adventure.
It’s a new dimension.

vertical and variety
There are hundreds of ski areas in Eastern Canada, but for international visitors
looking for a world class experience and a stimulating winter holiday, two main
options beckon – Montréal and Mont-Tremblant; or Québec city and its three major
resorts of Mont-Sainte-Anne, Le Massif and Stoneham.
“Skiing Europe with manners” is how one magazine summed up the Eastern
Canadian experience – a unique culture with the laid-back friendliness, service and
polite behaviour on the slopes that are the hallmark of Canadian skiing everywhere.
mont sainte anne
québec city
Welcome to Québec, Canada’s majority French speaking province with a long, colourful history that pre-dates most English settlement
in North America. Visit old Québec City and that history springs to life. The beautifully preserved and restored old walled city offers a
snapshot of 17th century French architecture.
The fairytale Chateau Frontenac hotel adds another magical dimension. Under a snow mantle for several months each winter, the city
provides a warm welcome in its myriad cosy bars and restaurants. The bonhomie reaches a peak during winter carnival, which does for
cool climes what Carnival in Rio does for the tropics.

Admire the views across the ice floes of
the St Lawrence Seaway as you ski
Mont-Sainte-Anne, a 30-minute drive
from historic Québec City (shuttles are
available). Mont-Sainte-Anne features
trails for every ability level spread with
breathtaking scenery all around. Three
great terrain parks, a halfpipe and
slopestyle course help explain why
Québec’s young freeriders are at the
cutting edge of the sport.
The Black Forest gladed advanced/expert
area, adds to Mont-Sainte-Anne’s
reputation for some of North America’s
best expert skiing. Snow conditions are
consistently exceptional, thanks to a high
performance snow making system and
high-tech snow groomers. Families are
well catered for, with an award-winning
childcare centre. A visit to the ‘Sugar
Shack’ where you get fresh hot maple
syrup poured onto a snow covered
bench to snaffle up with a paddle pop
stick, is fun for all ages.
For a change of style, Canada’s largest
cross-country centre offers an
exceptional trail network. The largest
night ski vertical in Canada allows plenty
of hours on the slopes.
le massif

Experience a mountain like nowhere else!
Just 45 minutes from Québec City, Le
Massif is a mountain by the sea with a
breathtaking panorama, the biggest vertical
drop east of the Canadian Rockies (770m)
and the highest annual snowfall (6.5m), yet
the best thing is, it is just above sea level!
Skiing while you watch cargo ships slip
silently by and tides gently nudge the river
ice is an unmatched experience.
For Le Massif’s first 10 years, skiers were
ferried up the mountain by snowmobile, car
and bus, until an express quad changed
access forever.
What hasn’t changed is the vision to
preserve the natural environment that has
always been a part of the Le Massif
philosophy in this United Nations World
Biosphere Reserve. Le Massif also boasts
Canada’s national alpine downhill ski
training centre, a good indication of the
quality of the terrain and fall line skiing.
Just 20 minutes from Québec City, the
friendly resort of Stoneham is ideal for a
warm up on arrival. With Canada’s largest
area for night skiing and views back to the
lights of Québec it is also ideal for a late
session, free on a Carte Blanche pass.
Without the mega verticals of larger
resorts, Stoneham has concentrated on
terrain parks and pipe facilities, which rock.
