OUR PARISH MISSION STATEMENT
As members of Saint Catherine of Sienna Roman Catholic Parish, we are committed by our Baptism to spread the
teachings of Jesus Christ by living our faith in loving service to all people. Inspired by the Holy Spirit and through
worship and prayer, we use our time, talent and treasure, to nourish the soul, care for the needy, minister to
the alienated, nurture the children and WELCOME all people into our community of faith.
From Msgr. Figliozzi
Scriptural Reflection for the Week
“Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing
them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the
Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have
commanded you.” (see Matthew 28:16-20) Jesus’ words to us
are very explicit and clear. The faith we are given as a gift
from God is meant to be given and shared by us with others.
Instead, for many of us, we keep it to ourselves. The result?
The faith not only does not spread to others it also diminishes
within us! How many Catholic families there are today in
which only the grandparents are still active in the practice of
the Faith! The Faith did not get passed on in a living, vital,
and true way. The children and the grandchildren see the
Faith of their ancestors as a relic rather than a real life choice.
What could be the reason why this is so? There are many but
perhaps the most essential is that religion may have been in
the home but Jesus was not in the heart. Do we truly know
God as our Father? Do we truly love Jesus His Son? Do we
truly turn to the Holy Spirit for guidance and coverage? Only
when the Holy Trinity is known, adored and loved by us on
the most personal of levels can we expect to be convincing
Christians to others– even our own families!
Corpus Christi Procession
After the 1:00pm Mass, next Sunday, June 6th, All FIRST
COMMUNICANTS are encouraged to join us in their special
attire. Let us witness to our belief in the REAL PRESENCE of
Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament that day.
Festival Volunteers Needed
Please check the FORM in today’s bulletin, all volunteers
must complete. Our Festival is growing in size (we will have
booths on Pacific Street this year) and popularity (more
people to feed and serve) so we need MORE HELP. Please
consider volunteering a day or two of your time the week of
June 21-28 (includes prep days, festival days and clean up
day). Thank You!
St. Catherine Special Appeal Honor Roll
Is published in today’s bulletin. Many thanks to the approximately 800 households that have stepped up to help the
Parish at this time. We need EVERYONE’S help so if you
have yet to make a pledge please do so ASAP. If we wish to
all share in the benefits of our pastoral programs and
facilities, we must all equally share in the Sacrifices that make
them possible. Thank you.
“God’s Saving and Amazing Grace”
at St. Vincent de Paul Parish
Join us on Friday evening, June 12th at 7:30pm, the Solemnity
of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, at our sister parish in Elmont.
This night is especially geared to friends and family members
of active parishioners who may be searching for God in the
midst of some difficult times for them. Invite anyone you may
think of who needs to be reminded of and experience God’s
Saving and Amazing Grace. Music, Scripture, Witness and
Prayer will be the format.
One Final Thought
“This is a sign of the joy of loving God! Sharing that love with
others.”
-Blessed Teresa of Calcutta
Stewardship…..
Reflection
Today’s second reading reminds us that we are the
adopted sons and daughters - the heirs - of God. We
are good stewards of our inheritance when we share
our faith and fulfill Our Lord’s command to
“go...and make disciples of all the nations.”
Living Stewardship
We are grateful this week for all stewards in our
parish who recognize that life is a gift from God and
a sacred trust. “What are you going to do today
with your gift of life?”
SACRIFICING FOR
ONE ANOTHER
or “speaking about Parish funding & finance”...
We demonstrate being good stewards of our Parish by
sharing our blessings through our weekly offertory
gift, and as donors of special funding for others in
need.

LITURGICAL CALENDAR HIGHLIGHTS
June 2018
(Month of the Sacred Heart)
7 The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ
The understanding of the Trinity permeates our very essence as Catholic
Christians. Our entire creed is structured around a confession of faith in the triune
God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Each time we make the sign of the cross and
say the words, “In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,”
we profess our belief in the triune God. The simple prayer of the Glory Be is a
profession of our belief in the Trinity, “Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to
the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and forever shall be, world
without end. Amen.” This is a prayer you may want to use often in your personal
prayer life. The Trinity, then, lies at the heart of what we believe as Catholic
Christians. We believe in a God that is in relationship with us as Father, Son, and
Holy Spirit. Sometimes we might refer to the persons of the Trinity as God the
creator, God the redeemer, and God the sanctifier.
The fundamental dogma, on which everything in Christianity is based, is that of
the Blessed Trinity in whose name all Christians are baptized. The solemnity of
the Blessed Trinity needs to be understood and celebrated as a profession of
the mysteries of Christ and as the solemn expression of our faith in this triune
life of the Divine Persons, to which we have been given access by Baptism and
by the Redemption won for us by Christ. Only in heaven shall we properly
understand what it means, in union with Christ, to share as children in the very
life of God.
14 Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time
20 Mass for Those with Special Needs
(3:00PM Sienna Center Chapel)
21 Fortnight for Freedom Begins
21 Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time
The feast of the Blessed Trinity was introduced in the ninth century and was
only inserted in the general calendar of the Church in the fourteenth century by
Pope John XXII. But the core of the Trinity is, of course, to be found throughout
the liturgy. Constantly the Church causes us to praise and adore the thrice-holy
God who has so shown His mercy towards us and has given us to share in His
life.

The Solemnity of the Holy Trinity
By Rev. Johnny R. Mendonca
This Sunday we celebrate the mystery of the Holy Trinity.
It is a mystery we perhaps will never fully grasp. The
reality revealed to us is that the Trinity is a community of
three persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—that exists
eternally in a relationship of mutual coequality. It is
community of love. The Catechism of the Catholic Church
states; "The mystery of the Most Holy Trinity is the central
mystery of Christian faith and life. It is the mystery of God
in himself. It is therefore the source of all the other
mysteries of faith, the light that enlightens them. It is the
most fundamental and essential teaching in the ‘hierarchy
of the truths of faith” No. 234.
Cont.►
Why is this feast celebrated at this particular time? It may be interpreted as a
finale to all the preceding feasts. All three Persons contributed to and shared in
the work of redemption. The Father sent His Son to earth, for "God so loved
the world as to give His only-begotten Son." The Father called us to the faith.
The Son, our Savior Jesus Christ, became man and died for us. He redeemed
us and made us children of God. He ever remains the liturgist par excellence to
whom we are united in all sacred functions. After Christ's ascension the Holy
Spirit, however, became our Teacher, our Leader, our Guide, our Consoler. On
solemn occasions a thanksgiving Te Deum rises spontaneously from Christian
hearts.
The feast of the Most Holy Trinity may well be regarded as the Church's Te
Deum of gratitude over all the blessings of the Christmas and Easter seasons;
for this mystery is a synthesis of Christmas, Epiphany, Easter, Ascension and
Pentecost. This feast, which falls on the first Sunday after Pentecost, should
make us mindful that actually every Sunday is devoted to the honor of the Most
Holy Trinity, that every Sunday is sanctified and consecrated to the triune God.
Sunday after Sunday we should recall in a spirit of gratitude the gifts which the
Blessed Trinity is bestowing upon us. The Father created and predestined us;
on the first day of the week He began the work of creation. The Son redeemed
us; Sunday is the "Day of the Lord," the day of His resurrection. The Holy Spirit
sanctified us, made us His temple; on Sunday the Holy Spirit descended upon
the infant Church. Sunday, therefore, is the day of the Most Holy Trinity. The
Church's Year of Grace, Pius Parsch.
Pope Frances said this last year, on Trinity Sunday: "Today is the Sunday of
the Most Holy Trinity. The light of Eastertide and of Pentecost renews in us
every year the joy and amazement of faith: let us recognize that God is not
something vague ..... He is tangible; He is not abstract but has a name: 'God is
love.' His is not a sentimental, emotional kind of love but the love of the Father
who is the origin of life, the love of the Son who dies on the Cross and is
raised, the love of the Spirit who renews human beings and the world."

“THOUGHT OF THE DAY”
Forgiveness Is an Action
Forgiveness is something we do internally. It is a
refusal to hate, resent or desire revenge. It is an
act of the will, not a feeling. Once we understand
God is not asking us to pardon someone when we
forgive, we can work on forgiveness.

During his last year of studies at the seminary, Barry suggested the class
motto be “Don’t take yourself too seriously” and that is how he lives out his
life and his vocation. He considers his faith to be the greatest gift from the
Lord. He would then list his wife, four children and 2 grandchildren as their
own special gifts. Barry has embraced many ministries including Youth
Ministry, Altar Servers and Pre-Cana, and he is always available to all from
our children to our ‘golden-agers’.
