Stockholm
Guide

Welcome to Stockholm!
Where stillness meets an
urban pulse.
Stockholm is a city of contrasts. Trends in music, design, fashion, and technology are born here, and
innovations that spread worldwide are invented here. Stockholm also has a rich history comprising
exciting architecture, museums, the Royal Palace and the medieval urban core of Gamla Stan. Trendy
bars and world-class restaurants are shoulder-to-shoulder with historic cafés and cozy neighborhood
pubs. This is a city of modern galleries and exclusive department stores, as well as small boutiques and
unique shops. Stages and arenas attract Swedish and international stars. Large and small events come
one after the next.
Stockholm is simultaneously urban and close to nature; water is an ever-present feature in this city where
lake and sea meet. Parks and green areas abound, and the distinctive white archipelago boats travel
to the islands all year long. The atmosphere is open and welcoming, and diversity and innovation are
encouraged. Stockholm is a city for everyone.
We hope you have a wonderful stay with us!

OLD TOWN/GAMLA STAN (01)
One of the world’s best-preserved
medieval city centers. Meandering
alleys lined with crooked buildings,
craft shops and galleries can be found
here. Have coffee and a treat on Stortorget; visit the Stockholm Cathedral
where the Crown Princess and her
husband were married in 2010, or just
stroll around this cozy neighborhood.
Don’t miss Mårten Trotzigs Gränd, an
alley so narrow that you can touch the
walls of the buildings on either side. In
recent years, several trendy restaurants
and celebrity chef eateries have
opened in the neighborhood.

Trendy and
affordable shopping
If you’re looking for trendy and affordable big department stores and chain
shops, then head down to CITY. You’ll
find most of the major fashion chains
here, including H&M of course, which
takes up an entire block. Sweden’s
biggest department store, Åhléns City,
(01) is located by Sergels Torg and
offers the Nordic region’s biggest
beauty department, personal shopping
and a wide array of Swedish fashion
and design. NK on Hamngatan
is, hands down, Stockholm’s most
luxurious and historic department
store; it opened in 1902. Located on
the other side of the street is Gallerian,
Stockholm’s first and biggest indoor
mall, where you will find Hollister and
more. A new feature of City, focusing
on exciting environments, unique shops
and restaurants, is Mood Stockholm.
Urban trend, vintage
and secondhand
SÖDERMALM is a young, creative,
somewhat bohemian neighborhood
where thriving is easy. If you’re looking
for trendy fashion, interior decor, and
vintage and secondhand shopping,
then this is the place to go. In the
neighborhood south of Folkunga
gatan, called SoFo for short, you’ll find
an excellent mix of shops, bars and
Shopping
decor, as is Tjallamalla, featuring
new and vintage Swedish shoes and
fashion. SoFo is also home to Sivletto,
an eccentric lifestyle boutique with
1950s-inspired apparel, interior decor,
magazines and music. A few neighborhoods north, on Götgatspuckeln, you’ll
find an urban mix of young and trendy
fashion, and popular coffee bars and
restaurants. For example, check out
Bruno (03), Monki and Weekday.

restaurants. Eco-conscious Urban Deli
by Nytorget park isn’t just a restaurant
and upscale grocery store; it’s also one
of Södermalm’s most popular meeting
places. Close by is Pärlans confectionery, offering handmade 1930s-style
candy. Grandpa is an absolute must,
with a unique mix of apparel, shoes,
accessories, vintage pieces and interior
Exclusive fashion,
art and design
In the exclusive ÖSTERMALM neighborhood, around Kommendörsgatan,
Nybrogatan and Sibyllegatan , you’ll
find many of Sweden’s most esteemed
antique dealers of art, furniture, jewelry, books and rugs. Have a peek inside
the classic Swedish interior design shop
Svenskt Tenn (02) on Strandvägen,
where you’ll find Josef Frank’s colorful
patterns and a lovely gift department.
The area around Biblioteksgatan is a
dynamic center for luxurious shopping
featuring Swedish and international
fashion. Brands like Acne, Whyred,
Armani and Marc by Marc Jacobs
are represented here, as are Prada,
Ralph Lauren and Swedish fragrance
house Byredo. You will also find H&M’s
concept shops COS and & Other
Stories, as well as the Swedish children’s
fashion brand Livly (04). Toward Birger
Jarlsgatan, you will find shops offering
brands such as Gucci, Louis Vuitton and
Bottega Veneta, and exclusive boutiques
like Mulberry and Versace.
Outlet
At Stockholm Quality Outlet, a half-hour
outside the city, you have the chance to
find fabulous bargains in fashion, shoes,
sporting goods, outdoor equipment,
accessories and interior decor. The 50
shops offer over 100 brands. Here, you
will find among others Swedish labels
including Acne, Björn Borg, Filippa K,
Haglöfs, Hope, Odd Molly, J.Lindeberg,
Nudie and Peak Performance.
enjoy, shop and explore in the new heart of stockholm
Mood Stockholm is the fantastic new indoor neighborhood right in the city center. You will find bars, restaurants
and unique shops in a vibrant, colorful setting. It’s no surprise that Stockholmers flock here to shop, socialize
and enjoy themselves on weekdays and weekends alike. The concierge on level 3 can assist you with almost any
daily task, and the treehouses on the terrace offer a fresh environment for small meetings and conferences.
With all the stores, it is easy to get acquisitiveness and the various restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, fika and
dinner all prepared with love. Treat yourself to a glass of cava, fall in love with a top or pause for a relaxing beauty
treatment. Mood Stockholm is a new pulsating venue and has something for all the senses. Welcome!

Stockholm
archipelago
Situated near the water and an archipelago of nearly 30,000 islands,
islets and skerries, Stockholm is unique. Traffic from the white
archipelago boats is plentiful in the summertime, but even in winter,
unique experiences await beyond the city. Here, you can enjoy beautiful
and special nature, take a seal safari, visit historic settings, see art, hike,
cycle, paddle, and eat locally sourced dishes and archipelago delicacies.
From south to north to south...
A new archipelago ferry line is opening
this summer allowing you to easily traverse
Stockholm’s beautiful archipelago.
Stockholm Guide—29
Winter in the archipelago
Tips!
A wintertime tour of the Stockholm
archipelago is at least as lovely as one
in summer. The air is fresh and crisp, and
the dark water is a stark contrast to the
snow-draped islands. It is quiet, peace
ful. Finnhamn, Möja and Sandhamn are
some of the islands you can visit in
winter. You can also take a guided tour,
eat a Christmas buffet or ride to a
Christmas market, for example on Utö.

Traveling
03 Subway
Stockholm is a compact city with short distances from place to place.
The choices are many, and getting around the city is easy, safe, and
convenient.
…to Stockholm
…in Stockholm
Stockholm Central Station and the Cityterminalen bus station are Stockholm’s
major hubs for local and long-distance
travel (01). Getting here from Arlanda
via the Arlanda Express high-speed
train takes twenty minutes; you can also
take a Flygbussarna bus, which travels
in dense traffic. Flygbussarna buses
also depart from Skavsta to the city.
If you arrive at Värtahamnen by boat
(02), you can take a bus to the city.
From Stadsgårdskajen, you can take a
bus or the subway.
www.arlandaexpress.se www.flygbussarna.se
Public transport in Stockholm is easy,
safe and convenient (03). The subway
covers the entire city and extends to
most of the greater Stockholm region.
Buses and trams are convenient and an
excellent way to see more of the city.
Taking the local ferry service between
the main islands is a great way to see
Stockholm and the archipelago.

TAXI Sweden does not regulate taxi
pricing, so always check the prices
before getting into a taxi! Note the
guideline prices that are displayed in
the taxi window before entering the
car. Always ask for a receipt when you
pay. You can always pay via credit
card. Several companies offer fixed
prices, for example from Arlanda
Airport to downtown. The typical price
for this route is about SEK 500.

“One of many favorites is to
take a boat from Nybroplan
to Fjäderholmarna in the
summer. Just 25 minutes from
the city. It’s best to ride there
in the afternoon when most
people are going home. Eat
something delicious at one of
the restaurants and then find
a spot on the cliffs and enjoy
the sunset before taking the
boat back home.”
