The second season for Lac La Martre Adventures proved to be everything we
anticipated. It was sensational. The fishing surpassed expectations and the
number of board fish was impressive to all. The largest trout of the season
weighed in at 42 pounds and was caught by Rowland Hill. The largest
pike for 2011 weighed in at 30 pounds and was caught by Jack Thompson.
N EWS LET TE R
On June 12 the staff of LLMA boarded their float plane and were on their
way to the fishing lodge. The weather was incredibly warm and clear; the
scenery unfolding below......spectacular. Our pilot took us down low enough
that everyone got a remarkable picture of the falls at the south end of Lac La
Martre. What we were not expecting was the ice; 3/4 of Lac La Martre was
still covered with ice! That was not a deterrent, though, and as soon as the
lodge was opened and boats were prepared for the upcoming busy season,
time was made available to test the fishing! It was great and we were ready
for the first group of guests to arrive!
However, the number of fish boated over twenty pounds made about 80%
of our clients 20/20 club members! And, the numbers of fish sighted over
20 pounds was even more exciting and impressive. As with previous years
there were hundreds of fish caught in the 15 - 19 pound range. All this
added up to very happy fishermen and owners!
Once again, we made improvements to the lodge in the form of 4 new
Alumarine boats, several Pacto Toilets, and our resident carpenter, Archie,
built new boardwalks, and continued to paint and spruce up the lodge. By
the end of August we had pretty much all new walkways and everything was
looking great! One of the greatest improvement hits with guests and staff was
having satellite internet service installed. Most everyone brought a laptop
and guests were able to conduct business and keep in constant contact
with family and friends. It was jokingly commented that the lodge looked
On June 20th our first guests arrived and the fishing-that-makes-legends
officially began. For the next six weeks we hosted family groups, one
corporate group, fathers and sons, friends, as well as those who came on
their own and all enjoyed everything Lac La Martre has to offer; great fly
fishing, sight fishing for monster pike, trolling for lakers, and grayling fishing
at the mouth of the south river.

very similar to an internet cafe in the evenings! Many guests downloaded
their pictures to LLMA’s laptop while at the lodge. Thank you for all the
great pictures! We plan to continue to make upgrades to equipment and
buildings every year.
Last year we had many people inquire about fishing the “trout spawn” at
the end of August. Because of the interest generated, we had one 6-day
trip the last week of August. Those who participated
were not disappointed. All five guests said it was
everything they remembered and expected. Hundreds
of trout were boated and 59 trout were caught over 20
pounds. That’s an impressive 11+ trout over 20 lbs. per
guest! For the 2012 season we are considering opening
for 2 weeks of the spawn if we have enough guests to
warrant an extra week.
Also, in August, we hosted a leadership conference for Diavik Diamond
Mines. As this was our first experience with hosting a conference, we were
excited and anxious about how it would go. Well, it went fantastic. The
conference included a few hours of guided fishing as well as a cultural event
put on by drummers, speakers, and elders from the village of Whati. We
thoroughly enjoyed the Diavik employees as well as hosting the event. A
good time was had by all. We want to thank the Diavik Group for choosing
Lac La Martre Adventures and we hope you had as much fun as we did!
This year we were fortunate in having Pete Mania of “The
Next Bite” at the lodge to film a show on Lac La Martre
Adventures. It will air this winter and we will be sending
out the date of airing via email. If you wish to be on the

Tex, and they had an excellent fishing experience which will

nothing but good things to say about the lodge and were
especially impressed with the fly-fishing and sight-fishing
for monster pike. We couldn’t have been happier with their comments and
the time we shared with them; just all-round great guests and fishermen.
Once again this year, we will be having booths at some of the prominent
Sports Shows. Dave will be handling both the Chicago and Minneapolis
shows for Lac La Martre Adventures, and Greg will be doing shows in
Edmonton and Fort McMurray. Dates are not yet available but these events
are well advertised so anyone interested in attending can check local listings
for dates. Also, we now have a Face Book page for Lac La Martre so check
there for recent news and updates. Our website is in the process of being
updated so you can check it for the latest pictures of our
2011 season and many of the great catches. Once again, our
thanks to those who shared their photos with us.
For the 2012 season, we are going to be implementing
a 3-day fishing trip for those who cannot fit a 6-day trip
into their schedule. The details of this can be found on
the back page of the newsletter. We are hopeful it will generate business
from an entirely new demographic -- the fisherman who works shift work
and will not need to take vacation time to accommodate a fishing trip! This
was suggested to us and as always, we are more than interested in hearing
suggestions and trying our best to accommodate those suggestions.
In conclusion, we want to thank each and every one of you who contributed
to make our second season a sensational success. We look forward to
seeing many of you again next year and others the year after. Thank you
