Meaning of the New School Identity
1. It emphasizes the missionary work, education, service, and resolution which are the philosophies
and the founding spirit of the Caritas Sisters of Jesus (SCG – Soure della Caritã di Gesú).
2. The bird of paradise which is the national bird of Papua New Guinea is continued to be used as
the emblem of the school. It is composed of readable logotype and the figure of the bird soaring
up to signify students reaching for their dreams.
3. The red color in gradation symbolizes passion for learning and femininity and the green and violet used as alternatives denote nature and the Seoul Province of SCG (where Caritas Technical
Secondary School belongs), respectively.
4. The ratio of the design and color presentation should be strictly administered. All Rights reserved. No part of this School Logo or this magazine may be reproduced or utilized in any form
or by any means without the permission of the Seoul Province of the Caritas Sisters of Jesus

Caritas School Message 2012
Directress Message
Education is an important journey in life. Each student has the opportunity to take this path. Throughout
this year you have been walking together as a special group of people who identify yourselves as students
of Caritas Technical Secondary School. This institution has an aim, a spirit that the students must learn
and understand and adapt in order to be successful in life. It is to form good Christian values in the students according to Catholic traditions and teachings. It is to form honest and productive citizens on Papua
New Guinea.
Congratulations! All the sacrifices and efforts that you have exerted for the past few years have finally
bore fruit. To the continuing students I also congratulate you for your great achievement in this school year
2012 as well as all your counterparts for the successful year. Let us give thanks and praise to God and we
still pray for Mama Mary’s guidance continuously.
To the students who are graduating this year, your journey in the school with other students and staff is
coming to an end. This is indicating that your life is just beginning in the field of work or whatever your
dreams take you. It will be a new environment full of ambition and challenges. It is time urging you to grow
a little more in your life as a worker or as self-employed person. What you have learnt in your years at
Caritas Technical Secondary School was preparing you to face life now and in the future. Take this time
with enthusiasm and faith that you want to be successful in life.
To the students who are continuing next year, it will be another year of learning important skills and values that are encouraging in your life. Be open and honest in yourself in your learning process and grow
properly informed.
The school has been privileged to have you as its students. To paraphrase the school song, you have
come to Caritas and working hand in hand, you have built a school of inspiration that works to mould the
young ladies of this nation.
With the academic and technical skills that Caritas has equipped you with, you can now build your dreams
on this foundation and upon Caritas, your alma matter.
May the Sacred Heart of Jesus guide you to your destination and to live your life to the full, with Love, purity
and Diligence, for you are the hope of PNG.
As you finish a memorable chapter in your life, I encourage all of you to keep up the good work that you
have learnt and begun in Caritas. Our task of educating you may have reached the end but each one of
you will live on the mission: to form honest Christians and be productive citizens of this country.
To the Sisters and staff my word of thanks and gratitude for the great work of preparing young people to
face life in the future with confidence. It is a great and noble profession. May God bless you. May you
have a grace filled Christmas celebrations for a prosperous New Year 2013.
You are the living monuments of Caritas so show the Caritas Spirit wherever you go, which can overcome
all difficulties and conquer people’s hearts.
Sincerely,
Sincerely,

2012 Principal Message
2012 Message from the Deputy Principals
Every year that comes to a close is a year that ushers in change. Change is as constant as the tides that
lap across the beautiful beaches of Papua New Guinea. Despite its presence in our lives it is feared and
actively avoided as situations will allow.
The school year 2012 has come to an end and it seems as though the year just started yesterday. Time
sure does fly when everyone is kept very busy working and studying to meet deadlines.
But for our graduates, and students in general, we can not but embrace change. In fact, there have been
many this year such as the approval of the construction for new hostel, library and renovation of teachers'
flats through AusAID's Incentive Fund; the school's acceptance of catering events for students' practical
such as the Department of Health's launching of the Immunization Campaign; the inclusion of Taekwondo
classes with the Pre-9 & Pre-11, Grade 9 & 11; the re-introduction of Cosmetology in Grade11; and the
'2nd Hamamas Krismas' Fundraising Concert, which is also fast becoming a tradition for CTSS. There
were also welcome surprises such as the AusAID Computer Donation; the Piano and Blackboard Donation from Buyeuong, a Korean company; the CTSS Music Band as 2nd placer in a Song Composition
Competition for PNG's National Elections; the visit and tree planting of the Japanese Ambasador; the visit
and talk of the Korean Ambassador; and the visit of 30 Korean journalists, where they were entertained
with tradtional costumes and dances of PNG. And as we take stock of all the new and exciting changes in
2012, we also celebrate the school traditions (which you will see in the next few pages), those that spell
our values as Caritasians. These that I have mentioned are only a few of the things we have gone through
during the year, and if I write ALL that has transpired, then it would take a couple of pages to give them
justice!
But, what do all these mean for the next year?
I believe that these mean the school can look forward to more changes, more exciting things in 2013. For
continuing students, it means rediscovering what makes CTSS life exciting and meaningful; for the graduates, it means fond memories of their Alma Mater and collecting new ones that the rest of the world has
to offer. God always gives the opportunity for change to happen because Jesus Christ is THE PROMISE
of a new and better life. The challenge for us as Christians is to
be courageous in the face of new things and to be strong in the
face of adversities, knowing that just as change is constant, so
is Jesus.
The students have grown physically, mentally and spiritually in the Salesian way. The school is so proud
to have equipped all the students with both the Academic and Technical skills, inculcated with good, moral
values. We sure do expect all that have been taught and learnt to be implemented at home, at work or at
school.
I would like to encourage you, our dear students, to always remember the school motto: Love, Purity and
Diligence. As long as it is instilled in your hearts, you sure will succeed in life as women of good character
and dignity.
Remember that you were studying in CTSS for a reason. To have faith with a positive attitude as a student
and a daughter, you can really fulfill your goals in life and make your parents proud as well as to have others to look upon you as their mentor.
You will really need to exert a lot of effort and make sacrifices... no matter how difficult or tiring it may be..
and the Good Lord will do the rest for you.
It sure has been a challenging year but successful if it weren't for the tireless efforts of our dear teachers.
You all have done tremendously well.
And to the parents, thank you for entrusting your daughters to our school and we look forward for more of
your participation with the school in the year 2013. Lets all work together for the good of the young and
industrious women leaders of Papua New Guinea.
Thank you and may the good Lord continue to bless you and your families.
So, let us say good bye to 2012, praying that we have learnt
much from our experiences; and welcome the changes in 2013,
hoping that we can make use of God's blessings to make our
and other lives better.
God Bless You All!

2012 PTA President's Message
2012 School Captain Message
2012 though holds a personal importance to me as my daughter graduates at the end of the year. This is
reason for rejoicing for any parent because as parents this is what we dream and hope for our daughters:
that they may be equipped with the right tools, attitudes and values to pursue their dreams. For that, I sincerely thank the sisters, school administration, teachers, volunteers, ancillaries, sponsors and benefactors:
without your support and sincere concern for the welfare of our daughters there would be no graduation,
no completion of tasks, no moving forward. Through you I can see God’s hands working in our daughters’
lives and consequently in our families.
Warm greetings to all students, teachers, parents and friends. This has been another great challenging
school year with lots of fun and enjoyable events and extra activities that will linger in many hearts in the
years to come.
This year is also significant for me because I end my term as the President of PTA Executive Committee.
I hand over this position with a sense of excitement for the possibilities under a new leadership. I hope
that I, together with the rest of the PTA Executive Committee, have done what we, parents and guardians, have set out to do and given the support that the school needed, particularly in terms of the projects
currently underway. I hope that parents and guardians continue to support the Class Matrons & Patrons
during parent-teacher meetings as it is not an easy task to take care of girls that are not your own; that
parents support school activities such as the Technical & Open House Day, Cultural Show, Taekwondo
Presentations and Christmas Concert for they form the richness of experience our daughters can have in
CTSS; and finally, that parents and guardians continue to support all school improvement projects through
their expertise, networks and services. It is said that ‘it takes a community to educate a child’ so we must
do our part if we want to see bright futures for our daughters.
So another school year has ended and a new one will begin… and so school life continues.
To the graduates, I wish you all the best and may your ships of learning bring you to your destination.
To everyone, especially the Caritas Sisters of Jesus (SCG), thank you for the support and encouragement
you have given the PTA Executive Committee and parents general. I hope that the same spirit of understanding and brotherhood I witnessed and experienced between and among the School Administration,
teachers and the PTA lives on.

Students are taught to work responsibly and independently regardless of having a lot in their hands with
the dual curriculum that we have. Identifying their potentials in terms of skills and interest during the Mufti
day, Technical & Open House Day and other extra cirricular activities that is made possible for them.
On behalf of the SRC members, I believe that we have done our best and have gone through a lot but
we have never gave up until the end. To the student body, we must continue to work together in order to
strive for success no matter the circumtances may be. Always stand up strong and face the challenges for
a better tomorrow. Remember your future depends on the decisions you make today, so think wisely and
make the right decisions rather than to cry over a spilt milk in the near future. To the upcoming SRC's for
2013, we wish you all a successful and enjoyable year 2013 and keep on living in the spirit and sisterhood
as a TRUE CARITASIANS, because "once a caritasians will always be a caritasians".
Finally, it would not have been a successful and enjoyable year without our Dearly Heavenly Father for
His continues protection and mercy upon us all; A big thanks to our hardworking advisor and coordinator
of SRCs 2012 - Miss Ann Frances Puipui; Ever supporting staff, benefactors, parents, students and above
all to the Caritas Sisters of Jesus for their endless love - we would not have come this far.
Again, thank you. We should always portray a true Caritas Spirit by sharing Love, Purity and Diligence.

Vision Mission Statement
The Caritas Technical Secondary School envisions to uphold the Preventive System of Don Bosco to
form integral and technical education for young women in order to become honest, productive and
faithful Christian citizens of Papua New Guinea.
Therefore, we are committed to inculcating spiritual and moral values within young women through
technical skills and academic advancement for integral human development.
We maintain regular contact with former students on their journey through life.
School Objectives
The school aims to achieve its dual objectives:
•
•
to form good Christian values in the students according to the teachings and
traditions of the Catholic Church
to form honest and productive citizens of Papua New Guinea by training girls to be
equipped with technical skills for future employment or to start their own small business
that will benefit their family and country.
Caritas Technical Secondary School is a permitted private institution and a mission school run by the Caritas Sisters (SCG). It follows the PNG Education Curriculum and allows its grades 10 & 12 students to sit
for the National Examinations and receive corresponding certificates for further studies. Being a technical
secondary school it offers both academic and technical subjects. The technical curriculum is designed to
train young women to be equipped with SKILLS for future employment or to start a small business that will
benefit themselves, their family and their own country.

Every year comes with greater learning opportunities and challenges. One of the things that teachers
are confronted with is in simplifying concepts to the level of the students. In theories and practical lessons.
As much as possible, teachers use the facilities available such as science laboratories to enhance the
learning of students. As the Head of the Department, I would like to commend the science teachers and
students for their efforts and cooperation throughout the year. In particular, for the marvelous projects
and model displayed during the technical day.

2012 Sports Intramurals Report (24th of May 2012)
On Wednesday, the 24th of May 2012, the Mary Help of Christian Day was celebrated with Sports Intramurals. The four (4) rivals of the school: the Mavidaths came alive in their green army attire, the Taurus
came in loud sunny yellow, Scorpions came in burning hot red and the sharkies came in the stormy seablue sharkies, colours. The battle consists of the Pattern formation and the best imitation for Mama Mary
and the winning team in sports.
The games played were basketball, netball, volleyball, soccer and touch rugby. Teachers were the referees for the day. All teams battled hard and won some games, the Green Mavidaths took out netball, the
Yellow Taurus took out the Volleyball and Soccer and the Blue Sharkies took out the Basketball and Touch
Rugby. However, the Sharkies were too strong for the Taurus beating them in the sports competition with
15 points.
In the end, Sharkies, the Blue House took back their Sports Intramurals title for 2012 - the Sharkies came
very cool and colorful to put out the red hot scorpios, the green cobras and the yellow taurus - to collect all
the prizes for the Pattern formation and Imitation of Mama Mary competition.
Despite the very dry and hot sunny day, everyone enjoyed the day and went home happily.

2012 Editorial Message
As we had successfully published the one of a kind issue last year, here comes our 2012 school magazine
that is more beautiful and interesting. Producing an even better school magazine for the school to account
for the memories in Caritas that is worth treasuring.
The Magazine Committee has been excited and challenged to produce this year's magazine. It was not
easy setting up schedules for all the classes and staff photos, running after certain individuals to collect
the contents of the magazine, especially the reports, and finalizing the many photographs taken for the
magazine. Nevertheless, the outcome of the magazine has proven the great cooperation and tiring effort
of the committe.
In this year's edition, you will find entertaining and very interesting articles inside that highlight all the school
activities. We've had the Annual Cultural Show, Technical & Open House day, Sports Intramurals where
the Sharkys - Blue House took back their Sports Intramurals title for 2012, and the 2nd CTSS Hamamas
Krismas Concert.
As we browse the pages of this magazine, we can't help but to reminisce and look back at the events along
with the pictures, dates and people.
So, happy browsing and keep these memories that bring Caritas spirit and joy into our hearts.
Magazine working committee:
