Gurupanchayatan sansthan
(Shri Swami Samarth Sampraday Wadi)
Kansgaon, Badlapur.
Seldom do you find a man with so much grit and
persistence that merely on the firm belief of an unknown
power, he traverses his entire life from nothing to
everything. Somewhat similar is the biography of Shri
Sir alias Shri Swami Sakha alias Shri Swami Sakha
Sumant Saraswati.
Let us start from a bit beginning. Born in a family which
had its ancestors with such a perseverance to build
their own house only after building the temple for their
deity- Lord Shiva Atmaling, probably the same
perseverance reflected naturally in Sumant. Born as the
eighth son in the family, he was fondly called as Sakhya
(Sakha- which means a friend), Lord Krishna was also
called as Sakha for reasons known to all of us and he
also being the eighth son of Devaki and Vasudev,
Sumant was also therefore referred to as Sakha.
Sumant was born in Islampur and spent most of his
childhood days around that region with frequent visits to
Kolhapur being the nearest city at that time.
Shri Vasudev Rao, Sumant father, was an artist
recognized at a national level and in the British era was
awarded a dole for his art. He was an excellent Rangoli
artist and also used to play the harmonium. Shri
Vasudev was a very short tempered person and
Sumant being the naughty child he was, used to be the
target all the time, of his short temperedness. Well,
Sumant was also partly responsible for all the servings
he used to get from his father. Such was the
naughtiness, that Sumant himself said that if had he not
turned to spirituality, probably he would have been the
most notorious person in his village.
Shri Vasudev Rao, whilst being busy as a farmer was
also near to a few spiritual people of those times. One of
them being Shri N V Kotekar, who used to compose
bhajans in simple Marathi language to be easily
understood by the common man. Shri Kotekar, followed
the Dutta Sampradya and was a staunch follower of the
second avatar of Shri Dutta (first being Shripad Shri
Vallabh)- Shri Narasihma Saraswati. Shri Vasudev Rao
used to play the harmonium whenever Shri Kotekar
used to sing his own compositions. Sumant as a child
used to observe all this and slowly started getting
attracted to this side of the life. By then he was already
accompanying a pious personality by name Shri Chile
Maharaj, who used to roam about in and around
Kolhapur quite mysteriously to keep the general public
away from him.
However, Shri Chile Maharaj, got very fond of Sumant
and used to take him to various places in and around
Kolhapur giving the basics of spirituality to Sumant. Shri
Chile Maharaj, with his divine sight and knowledge had
got to know that Sumant was not slated to lead life like
an ordinary person.
While all this was happening, one fine day, Sumant
father, on some incidence, beat Sumant so much that
Sumant left house for good to go to Kolhapur for higher
studies. In Kolhapur, Sumant used to do petty jobs to
earn livelihood and at the same time study in the nearby
college. The rendezvous with Shri Chile Maharaj
continued.
In the meantime, Sumant (now we will address him as
Sakha), also got to meet the great saints of that time,
Shri Bhalchandra Maharaj, Shri Swaroopanad Swami.
As said earlier, destiny for Sakha was carved differently
than a normal human being. Shri Bhalchandra Maharaj
gave his own urine as prasad and Shri Swaroopanad
Swami gave a morsel of “dahi-bhaath (curd-rice)” from
his own dish. This all indicated Sakha to move to a
region which had “salty-water” and “sweating”
(resembling urine) which meant near the sea-shore and
where rice was grown as a primary crop (resembling
“curd-rice”).
In the meantime, Shri Vasudev Rao, sadly demised and
Sakha had no choice but to move to newer
opportunities to lead a life of his own. Taking the cue
from the prasad received from these saints, Sakha
moved to Neral- a place near to Mumbai- the place
which had sea shore.
As a bachelor, Sakha tried various stints doing jobs with
private companies. Sakha now had grown into a
personality which was liking for all. He had and still has a
natural instinct to attract people. Then a young boy,
singing and playing tabla (all inherited and
learnt during his days with his father),
acting, he gathered a lot of friends and
well-wishers. At the same time, with
the blessings of Shri Chile Maharaj,
Shri N V Kotekar and the small
incidences with Shri
Bhalchandra Maharaj and Shri
Swami Swaroopanand, Sakha
had got a hint of his way
forward in life. He started
rigorous penance like, “Gayatri
Jap Anusthan” in waist deep
water in a lake nearby and in the
nearby mountains in Neral and
being the era of Kalyug where
bhakti is considered supreme,
Sakha got a divine enlightenment
for the followership of Shri Swami
Samartha- the saint from Akkalkot. Shri
Swami Samartha is the third avatar in Shri
Dutta Sampradya.
Sakha gradually left his job in private companies and
joined as a lecturer in the draughtsman curriculum at
ITI, first at Ambernath- town near Kalyan and then at
Thane. During this period, Sakha became Sir for all.
Students, were overwhelmed by the
straightforwardness, ease of teaching style,
adventurous behavior of Sir. Many students became his
followers later but to start with it was the easy and
natural behavior of Sir that attracted the students to him.
Taking a due advantage of this, Sir planned picnics/trek
to the nearby Peb Fort in Matheran area, where he used
to go for penance, with his students and got the whole
fort cleaned up.
Soon, Sir realized the real purpose of his being. He
realized that the purpose of his life is to spread the
holiness of Shri Swami Samartha but through simple
practical teachings, identifying the good things of a
person and more importantly neglecting the bad
qualities of the person, taking all of them together,
imbibing the lost confidence in them and making
them do something in life than what
everybody does.
Sir got married to Sou Vidya Risbud
and were blessed with a son and a
daughter thereafter. Sir shifted
from Neral to Badlapur for better
and continued with his
followership of Shri Swami
Samartha. His initial days were
not cosy. Sir had to exhibit his
skills as a Rangoli artist and
used to hold exhibitions to
make an extra living along with
his job.
His followership was increasing
day by day. Sir experimented a
unique ritual of feeding 1000
people (Sahastrabhojan) by asking
all near and dear ones to donate only
one fist of foodgrains. The impact was
such that, after feeding more than 1000
people, a truckload of the stock of foodgrains was
donated to Akkalkot. This showed the strength of
togetherness in a very small way. The weekly ritual of
Upasna at his home every Thursday and Saturday,
caused disturbance to the neighbors which led to
creation of the presently widely known- Shri Swami
Samartha Wadi, in the outskirts of Badlapur.
Sir, travelled on foot to Akkalkot in merely 5 days from
Badlapur- covering a distance of almost 500 kms. He
also travelled on foot to various places like Shirdi,
Alandi. Thereafter since the year 2004 he has been
taking all his followers with him walking to Akkalkot from
Badlapur. The glaring characteristic of this walkathon
has been that no one carries any money during the 15
day's odd walkathon. No one is allowed to ask for water
or food. The belief is that the super power makes
arrangement for you. It has been an experience for the
last 12 years that not a single moment has gone during
these 15 days that anybody has been left hungry or
thirsty. The experience and the guidance given by Sir
during these walkathons have been published as short
stories in a book called- “Chal Chalito Chali”.
The creation of Samartha Wadi (Wadi for short) started
in the year 1994 and was steading at a pace, where
within a span of 1.5 years, almost 6 temples were builtof Shri Hanuman, Shri Dutta, Shri Surya (Sun God), Shri
Gayatri Devi, Shri Shailya Mandir (Lord Shiva) and Shri
Paduka Mandir.
While all were getting comfortable with the fact that a
common place for Upasna has been built, Sir left for
Jagannath Puri walking all the way from Badlapur. He
had left to come for never. That was the divine order.
During February 1996 he started the walkathon to reach
in a dilapidated state to Puri sometime in May 1996. He
had walked for days together with fever and no water
and food and reached Puri, where the local people
helped to get in touch with his followers in Badlapur.
Thereafter it was grueling 2 months of treatment at
Bombay Hospital for kidney failure and related
ailments. God had different plans and Sir was back on
his feet in 2 months.
Thereafter Sir did not look back. He left his job forever
and since then has devoted his whole life to Swami
Samartha seva. Samartha Wadi saw a new era of rapid
development for the future times to come, during which
period, there were various yagnas and religious rituals
performed in the vaastu of Samartha Wadi, remarkable
one's being the Atirudra, Ayutchandi and many of them
such as these. Sir, along with a few disciples,
completed Narmada Parikrama, Krishna Parikrama, by
road travel.
In the year 2002, during the religious ritual of Atirudra,
Sir was enthroned as Pancham Guru Peethadhish. He
was now Shri Swami Sakha Sumant Saraswati (Shri
Swami Sakha).
Being ordained to the followership of Shree Dutta
Sampradaya, it was decided to build a Guru
Panchaytan a temple of five Gurus, ie- Shri Dutta,
Shripad Shri Vallabh, Shri Narasihma Saraswati, Shri
Swami Samartha and Shri Krishna Saraswati (of
Kolhapur), alongwith 16 Temples of Shri Dutta Avatar.
Shri Swami Sakha, a personality who imbibed all the
qualities of his father, is an instant poet, sings bhajans in
a very luring voice, plays tabla simultaneously with
singing, is a sculptor, makes idols of deities, is an
extremely good cook, a Rangoli artist. No one has seen
him reading any Vedas or books but during his spiritual
discourses, he has been heard to easily refer them. He
is an avid traveler, recently he explored Dandakaranya,
Champarnya, Kishkindharnya, Namaisharnya, all on
road travel and without any prior bookings and at times
living in the forests and jungles.
Shri Swami Sakha truly is a god sent person, who has
been, for the last more than 40 years, selflessly striving
to find himself within him and once realized, trying to
imbibe his learnings amongst all his followers and
disciples, trying to make them understand the true
meaning and value of life. Even today, after crossing the
age of 60, his energy is relentless and amazing and the
same as it was when he started this selfless service,
towards that supreme power and to the common
people. One will find his whole life story in his dairy
published for the people titled as – “Shri Dutta Suvas”.
Guru
Panchayatan
Scientific
Temple.
The
Incredible! There's simply no other word that'll convincingly
capture the enigma of this place called the Shri Swami
Samarth Vadi. It's the home to India's only Guru
Panchaytan temple build in Hemadpanthi style - one of
India's oldest and most amazing architectural techniques.
Bubbling with peace and tranquility, it's a place where all
questions, be it spiritual, philosophical, intellectual or
scientific, will meet their answers.
Below the main gabhara is a specially
designed Meditation room. Above it, Lord
Duttatray's ‘Dram' Mantra is created with
wires made from five metals. A wire from this
mantra reaches the meditation room and
endpoints of these five wires reach the
respective idols of the five deities. Why?
Scientifically, these wires transfer five
different vibrations, corresponding to each
deity, into the meditation room; adding to the
power and mental peace of meditators.
16 temples of the 16 avatars of Lord
Duttatray are erected at the four corners of
the temple in a unique semi-circular fashion.
Each idol is made from rich black stone. Each
temple follows a unique scientific and
spiritual architectural pattern. The month and
day of that particular Dutt Guru avatar is
figured out. According to that day's nakshtra
(planetary position) the direction of the
temple's door is derived and the door will face
that direction. What's the logic? Each temple
is filled with the absolute power of each deity.
Hence, whenever a worshiper worships in
that temple, this absolute power enhances
his well-being.
Power Of 16
Mystery Of 16
Mythology says that a person is made from 16 essential gunas (qualities) that make him a
complete person. Following these bring balance in his life and ensure complete growth of his
mind, body and soul. Each of the 16 Dutt avatars, on which the above 16 temples are based,
is symbolic of these 16 gunas.

digging your own grave.
Forbearance - SHIVARUP (SHRAAVAN
SHUKLA.8) Patience is very important in life.
Things will happen on their own time. You
fretting won't change it, but will only make
you unhappy.
Now, aren't these qualities also suggested
by doctors, psychologists, physicists and
scientists, not only by saints? Precisely why,
Guru Panchaytan is a place for every
science-believing, hard-facts following nerd,
not only to pray but also experience in reality
the equations and values of science he
thoroughly believes in.

Balyogi Parag Swami laid the foundation of
this temple on a Dutt Jayanti in 1994/ 1995. 16
yadnyas have the area surrounding the
temple extremely powerful and holy. A goose
pimples- raising idol of Shri. Dutt Guru,
carved out of a rich, black stone, is placed in
this temple. The idol symbolizes the three
mental states of a human, viz.- Satva
(Spiritual), Rajj (Material) and Tama
(Physical). It says that only Shri Dutt Guru can
set the fine balance between these three
states, helping a human to attain nirvana. You
may wonder, why is the idol carved from
black? Traditionally black is supposed to be
an inauspicious colour. Now, that's the
difference between spiritual-scientific
thinking and long running, superstitious
beliefs. Black is a colour symbolizing
determination, tenacity and absorption.
These qualities help a devotee to add more
power to his prayer, by being more focused.
Behind Dutt Guru's idol, a standing idol of Shri
Swami Samarth adds to the heavenly
ambience. This idol has being carved by Shri
Swami Sakha's father. In front of the idol are
silver paduka that, after every Buddh
Purnima, travel throughout Maharashtra for
all the devotees to get a darshan of it. Shri
Swami Samarth's idol faces the east,
overlooking the rising sun and Shri Dutt
Guru's idol faces the west, looking at a setting
sun. The east-facing idol tells its devotees
that the blessings of Shri Swami Samarth are
with them. The west-facing idol says that Shri
Swami Samarth will stand behind all his
devotees, disciples in this Kaliyug. Over the
temple, the lovely Lord Ganesha sits blessing
the worshipers. Because of the Ganesh idol,
this holy ambience gets its name of Shri
Ganesh AtriDutt Devasthan.

Yogis say that a mandir is where the mind,
body and soul all become one. The daily grind
breaks the fine connection between them. In a
sacrosanct place like a temple they meet each
other to become a powerful identity. Visit the
Gayatri Mandir and you'll not only agree but
also experience this phenomenal feeling.
Such concentration and focus that you
experience here is a not-so-regularly
experienced feeling. For a regular
improvement of your karmic cycle, one is
supposed to worship Goddess. Gayatri and
chant the Gayatri mantra at sunrise, in the
presence of sun. Precisely why, this temple is
built in front of the Surya Mandir and Renuka
Devi Mandir. The setting, the architecture is
absolutely apt for the congregation of the
mind, body and soul. It's built inside a 3 feet
deep abyss inside the ground. Here, below
the ground, the worshipers can cut away the
chaos of the world and focus on the non-stop
chanting of Gayatri mantra. In the temple, a
peace-evoking, Panch-mukhi (5 faced) idol of
Gayatri is set on a beautiful lotus flower.
An interesting incident gives birth to this
mandir. At the wee-hours of 3.30/ 4.00 a.m.,
Shri. Swami Sakha saw a dream of Goddess
Durga talking to him. She informed him about
her presence in the ground where the temple
now stands. Swami Sakha was ordered to
build a temple here so every Friday devotees
could come and pray here. As ordered an
exquisite piece of art stands here today. Not
just a piece of art but a place where you get a
chance to constantly improve your memory;
because regular chanting of Gayatri mantra
improves your memory. So remind your
memory, if she has to get sharp, she needs to
be at the memory temple.
