cover story & Stand Up Dance Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the World of Dance… T hey came from all over India to take part in the biggest dance show to hit the community and all one can say is that ZYNG just wowed its way into the tempo and beat of the magnificent world of dance. In typical ZYNG style, the ZYNG Ultimate Dance Show was a dazzling display of fantastic moves, graceful dancers and creative choreography. But it was the amazing somersaulting B-Bo boys of Dadar who took community talent to a whole new level, never witnessed before. The crazy competitive spirit did not in any way diminish the camaraderie with which each and every one of the talented youngsters hugged each other as they competed through the night. After months of anticipation, the intense competition among the talented finalists for the Surf Excel ZYNG Ultimate Dance 2010 show heightened to a point where youth and adults alike were all brimming with excitement, eager to discover who was going to earn the coveted title of the The audience members sat riveted throughout the night. Instead of the regular routine introductions before each performance, ZYNG introduced each participant with their own personal video presentation giving the audience a hint of the moves they were about to see. Indian dancer from Surat, Farzana Kharadi, with natural elegance, performed a classical Indian Bharatnatyam. Vivacious, Rhea Vesuwalla and Michelle Anklesaria spiced things up with their individual performances of fast-paced hip-hop routines, while soft-spoken Lianna Mistry moved the audience with a contemporary performance. But it was Vishtasp Kothavala and his outlandish b-boying dance moves that wowed the judges and won the audience over with his ‘hot-step’. With the soloists setting the bar high, the duet performers looked nervous in the wings, but it all changed with the commencement of their performances. From Nohid Felfeli and Vahishta Bharucha’s customary Indian dance for young girls, to the Navsari dancing duo, Vahbiz Bilimoria and Yashan Patrawala’s Bollywood-Hollywood routine to the passionate moves of Khordeh Siganporia and Behzad cover story Behsania’s dance of love – the Rumba, the Duet categories showed that there were varied and wonderful themes to their dances. However, the winning combination proved to be Zinnia Mogul and Kaizad Sheshbaradran, who stole the show with their dance about games played by young foolish lovers. Parizad also highlighted that fabulous events, such as this show, would not be possible without financial support from many sponsors and donors and that ZYNG looks forward to their continued support in the future. With the backstage area brimming with excitement, the group performers, already exhilarated, got ready for the last category of the night. The Super 6 (Marzi Anklesaria, Michelle Anklesaria, Khushnawaz Khambata, Gulnaz Siganporia, Jenifer Anklesaria and Shahzad Darji) set a high bar for excellent choreography and technique. Malcolm Baug’s Vivid 5 (Nohid Felfeli, Vahishta Bharucha, Ayesha Parbhoo, Delfina Fitter and Karishma Mevawalla), the spunky all-girls group, put up a traditional tandav depicting societal evils against women, such as sati and female infanticide. Encouraged by Rustom Baug resident Hutokshi Doodwalla, the Hot Steppers (Zeenia Wadia, Frenaz Balsara, Rustom Patel, Karishma Contractor, Armaiti Irani, e stage ormed th e. st rs e k a ontlin a Bre The Baw -boying to the fr B g in g n ri b Taronish Cooper and Mazda Disawala), put on a thematic performance of a young girl’s journey through the world of dance. Finally, the incredible Dadar Bawa Breakers (Burzin Engineer, Rashna Engineer, Kaizad Kuka, Zeenia Engineer, Nushad Irani, Delzad Bajan, Darayus Dhabhar, Vishtasp Kothavalla, Lianna Mistry and Percy Bharucha), put a phenomenal show with their fast-paced co-ordination and their mixture of hip-hop, B-boying, contemporary and Latin dance numbers. From their stunts to the fancy footwork, they really gave it their all! Even with one missed sequence, they still managed to garner the much-coveted first place. ngineer Zeenia E d n a a k u Kaizad K est foot forward b put their The BPP Review 27 December 2010 cover story Judges’ scores and the Ultimate Dance winners W hile the scores were being tallied and the participants anxiously waited in the wings, Nauheed called Boman and the judges on stage, who, much to the audience’s pleasure, decided to do a little impromptu dancing of their own. For the crowd, it was an exciting surprise and for the participants it was a moment of inspiration. With a quick shake of the hips, Boman Irani and Feroz Khan shake a leg for the audience Boman had the audience going absolutely wild with their cheers and claps, which thundered and resounded throughout the theatre as Longi, Feroz and Geeta joined in the merriment. What a night! It was clear that the judges had a fantastic rapport with the audience, who were absolutely thrilled that these three world-famous choreographers-cum-dancers were amongst them. ZYNG sincerely thanks all of them for being a part of this very first ZYNG Ultimate Dance Competition and giving our participants the opportunity to showcase their talent. Finally, the moment everyone had been waiting for… the finale results for each category was announced by Nauheed with the prizes being given away by our honorary chief guest, judges and audience members. Lucky winners received a whole array of prizes including cash awards, gift hampers and gift certificates. Khushnaz Turner styled all the outfits for our glamour girls, Nauheed and Parizad through Forever New and the stunning jewellery was generously given by Kisna Jewellers. The judges and audience were looked after by Dilkhush Reporter, Bazyan Mistry, Darayus Tirandaz and Peshotan Kapadia.
