Has been TOM a member ever since. I have heard also people tell me that they heard about the club through Membership Initiatives their parents and decided to come We are beginning the process of to a meeting and check it out but growing our club both quantitathey were skeptical and thought it tively and qualitatively. Working was going to be an older crowd. with Promotions Director Dave When they came to a meeting, Wherry, our club has contacted they saw three young people on more than a half-dozen churches the board and several other in an effort to enrich their proyoung people in the room to mingrams with Sitzmark activities. gle with and it changed their perThese churches (contacts) inspective on it." clude: Saint Lukes of Brookfield (Marion) St. Matthias of Pewaukee (John) Holy Apostles of New Berlin (Fr. Raul* and Diana) Our Lady of Lourdes of Greenfield (Mary) Immaculate Heart of Mary of West Allis (Kathy) *Becoming the Pastor of a couple Catholic parishes in St Francis shortly. This effort should not only serve to increase participation in our activities but we are tapping into a new source of membership. If you are a member of another organization that we could benefit with a similar collaborative relationship with our club, contact Promotions Director Dave Wherry or myself. Finally, we are also consulting with the President of Illinoisbased Sanctuary Ski Club,, Anna Lyszczarcyk, on some unique membership efforts their group used to tap into the 30 and younger crowd. In a recent correspondence she wrote:"I think you need a core 'young group' to be involved and stay involved in the club so that new potential members see the young faces to join the club. One of our members we met at the ski show. He said he went to a few ski club meetings around town but ours is the only one we saw faces under 30 and While this kind of effort takes time, I think it is well worth it. We ask all of Sitzmarks to encourage younger adults (21 years and older), including those who have adult children, to check out our club. According to Anna, most younger skiers, due to limited budget, would be interested initially in Midwestern ski trips before moving onto more expensive Western Trips. Sanctuary Ski club members found that the Midwestern trips were also an opportunity to 'bond' with their adult children or grandchildren on the slopes - I hear the experience was enjoyable for all involved. Once we have a core group from this age bracket, momentum to grow our club from that direction will increase significantly. One more thought, this is not an effort to replace older members, what we are trying to do is widen the age spectrum of our club's membership. We have a big tent and everyone is invited to all our activities that includes both skiing and nonskiing activities alike. Congratulations/Appreciation Congratulations goes out to Laura Kletti and Sue Czarniak who organized the June 24 - 26 Wildcat Mountain Camping Trip. It was a great success that was enjoyed by 13 participants. I want to express, too, my appreciation to the summer activity organizing efforts by fellow Sitzmarks that includes the on-going activities of Golf (Rob Hermann), Volleyball (Bob Bluemner), Wednesday Night Biking (George Vogt), and Monday Night (Ron August). George Vogt told me that participation has been great this summer with 14 bikers showing up last week that made a journey west from Greenfield Park to watch the water show in Waukesha's Frame Park. I had a chance to drop by Volleyball, located NE of the grade school by Rainbow Park, on June 15th to find 16 participants. In addition to on-going activities, see The Sitzmark News for details on some terrific July events that some of your fellow Sitzmarks are organizing including: Barnacle Buds Birthday Meet-Me-At (Nancy Woltzen/Mike Mueller) Jackson Park Jazz Orchestra Meet-Me-At (Jon Rydz), the popular annual Peninsula Park Door County Camping (Nancy Woltzen), Buck Bradley & Edelweiss Cruise (Jim & Megan Reilly) and Flemings Prime Steakhouse Meet-Me-At (Jon Rydz). Finally, I want to thank John Heinzel for hosting six members of the board, on the evening of June 27th, in his home for a much needed training exercise on using the Wild Apricot system used by the club. I welcome all suggestions and really appreciate the dedicated Sitzmark Board Members, Directors and volunteers we have that are contributing to the continuing success of our club.
