Nashville has for the most part nice weather year round and offers live music, which is normally free with many to choose from up and down the streets in the City. You can take a horse drawn carriage ride through the streets of as well as taking a nice stroll along the River. If you like Parks you can go to Centennial Park and if it happens to be spring time the flowers will be in full bloom and are simply breath taking. also offers some top choices of hotels and restaurants. This city is really romantic for music lovers looking for romance. My second choice for romantic places would be in the Hamptons on Long Island. Although it is not a city it is about an hour from New York City and offers the best in Beaches, moonlight, dining and live entertainment. If you like sand and seafood, then can not be beat for romance, fun in the sun and good times. This is a seasonal area and this romantic getaway can only be planned between the months of June through September. Another one of my favorite romantic cities is Philadelphia, PA. Horse drawn carriages abound the city streets that offer fine dining, elegant accommodations and several choices in entertainment such as theatre, music and piano bars. There are free tours you can take which help to make this and affordable romantic getaway and everything is within walking distance. I love the old world feel that Philadelphia offers with all the modern conveniences. This is a wonderful city to visit with the one you love which leads us to the biggest romantic city below. Manhattan can be romantic if you have a large enough wallet and money is no object. If that were the case then Manhattan 1 is the place to go with town cars taking you from one romantic location in candlelight dining to another romantic location for dancing and snuggling. The hotels in have the most luxurious suites with anything you could want being just a room service call away. Let's head back to PA to another one of my favorite romantic locations, Lancaster. I actually honeymooned there so I know from where I speak. There are wonderful and unusual places to stay in Lancaster from Bed and Breakfasts to the old time Train turned into Hotel rooms called the Red Caboose. You can also take a hot air balloon ride with a picnic basket and a bottle of wine over fields and farms with the one you love. It is absolutely gorgeous and stimulating. Lancaster offers wonderful eateries and depending on the time of year, there are lots of other activities from shopping to horse back riding. It is also a very economical place to encourage romance and while their make sure you visit the nearby Intercourse and Blue Ball, PA for charm, antique shops and bakery's. While in PA you must get to the Pocono's. It was considered a honeymooners paradise back in the 1960's and 1970's and although we don't really hear it advertised as such anymore, the romance has remained an alive and thriving. The Pocono's offer year round romance from candlelight Jacuzzi tubs to sipping hot buttered rum in front of a roaring fire after a day on the ski slopes. I would personally recommend checking out Shawnee Village in the Pocono's and if you stay in that area make sure you have dinner and enjoy the wonderful ambiance of the charming city of East Stroudsburg. Another very romantic place in PA is New Hope. New Hope is located in Bucks County PA and offers a variety of things to do for couples. There is a Riverboat ride where you actually get serenaded during the trip down the river. There is also a train ride through the area in an old time train that gives you the historic and scenic ride through Bucks County. The shops in New Hope are eclectic and so are the restaurants. They offer everything from stores that specialize selling items to spoil your cat to vintage clothing stores. Dining and dessert in New Hope is an exciting pleasure and there are several historic and romantic hotels and well as gorgeous bed and breakfasts in Bucks County. New Orleans would have to make this list. New Orleans offers the feel of mystery, history and jazz. The nights are sultry and the food and drink offer stimulation that encourages closeness with ones companion. Walking hand in hand in the French Quarter will make you feel like you are going back to a time where there was nothing but dinner by candle light, no air conditioning and no telephones. As a matter of fact, turn off your cell phone when you get to and let the atmosphere take you back in time. Do you really like beaches for romantic excursions? Tybee Island off the coast of Savannah, GA is a wonderful place to find romance and the ocean in a southern atmosphere all wrapped up into one. You get the best of all words in Tybee Island from wonderful hotels to restaurants and nightlife. While in this area make sure you visit Savannah for a day or two and enjoy the old world charm that Savannah has to offer. Speaking of old world charm brings me to my final pick of top 10 romantic cities and ends this list with Boston. Five Star hotels, clean streets, harbor views and quality dining help to make Boston my last but not least pick on this list. I can personally recommend Fifteen Beacon and it's Five Star rating. I have stayed there and they practically had to drag me out when it was time to go home. That wraps up my list of 10 most romantic cities. I have been to them all and I can vouch for the fact that each location helped to lay down the groundwork for a wonderful romantic getaway. (c) 2010 Associated Content, Inc. Rendell said today. "These investments, totaling $1.6 million in support for our two largest industries, demonstrate state government's continued commitment to strengthening agriculture and tourism," said Governor Rendell after the Commonwealth Financing Authority approved the projects this week. "These projects are creating jobs, bringing visitors and their tourism dollars into the state, and helping sustain our rural communities." The CFA-approved funds are from the state's First Industries Fund program, which offers loans, loan guarantees and grants to bolster Pennsylvania's agriculture and tourism industries by encouraging rural economic development and job creation. At Wednesday's monthly meeting, the CFA approved loans and guarantees for three projects in Adams, Lancaster and Westmoreland counties that will leverage an additional $3.2 million in private investments. One of the projects, a machinery and equipment loan for $914,040 was awarded to Bream & Bear Operating Co. LLC and Bream & Bear Ltd. for their apple growing, storing and processing facility. The loan will be applied to the $1.8 million purchase price for construction equipment to build the 36,984-square-foot, 275,000-bushel state-of-the-art cold apple storage facility in Biglerville, Adams County. A First Industries Small Business First Tourism loan for $200,000 was awarded to the EDC Finance Corp. on behalf of the Ackermann Holdings LLC o/b/o The Amish Village Corp., which operates primarily as a tourist destination that focuses on the PA Dutch lifestyle and Amish community. The loan will be used for the $600,000 purchase of the existing business and real estate in Ronks, Lancaster County. The Commonwealth Financing Authority also approved a $562,500 tourism loan guarantee for Tydemac Land Co. LLC and Tydemac Hospitality LLC toward the $2.4 million purchase of an existing vacant hotel facility in Unity Township, Westmoreland County. Mardi Gras, French for "Fat Tuesday," is the day before Ash Wednesday and marks the start of the period of fasting and abstinence for Christians. For many, that means giving up a favorite treat for the 40 days before Easter. In Polish communities in the midwest, people line up at local bakeries for the donut-like paczki. (AP) Previous slide Next slide Here's a look at how people are celebrating, and perhaps, increasing their waistlines, on this day of indulgence. King Cake In New Orleans and beyond, king cakes are the sweet, star attraction of the Mardi Gras season. The circular, braided cinnamon-roll-like cakes are topped with icing and colored sugar - typically green, gold and purple. But be careful - a plastic baby, or small trinket, is placed inside the cake after it is baked. The person who bites into the piece typically has to provide the next king cake. King cakes can be plain or filled with fruit, cream cheese or a variety of other mixtures. Paczki In Polish communities in the Midwest, especially Detroit and Chicago, Fat Tuesday is more commonly known as Paczki Day (pronounced Pach-kee), where long lines form at local bakeries just to taste this doughy delight. The treats, which resemble oversized donuts, are filled with creams and jellies and are topped with powdered sugar. A typical Paczki packs about 600 calories. Fastnacht and Kinklings Sweet, fried dough is popular in many regions and countries and goes by different names. German American populations, such as in the Pennsylvania Dutch Country, celebrate Fastnacht Day with the fastnacht - fried http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2010/02/16/entertainment/main6213065.shtml 2/18/2010 Fried Up on Fat Tuesday - CBS News Page 2 of 3 potato dough served with dark corn syrup. A close cousin to paczki and fastnacht are kinklings, a doughy treat fried up in a variety of shapes. Pancakes Donuts and pancakes are associated with Lent because they were a way to purge pantries of rich ingredients like eggs, milk, and sugar, before the fasting season of Lent. In the United Kingdom and elsewhere, Pancake Day is celebrated with a thin, flat cake made of batter and fried in a pan and crowned with sweet or savory toppings. In England, pancake races mark the day - and many churches hold pancake breakfasts or dinners as fundraisers. Hot Cross Buns And to mark the end of the Lenten season? Hot cross buns, of course. The sweet yeast rolls studded with raisins or currants and marked with a cross made of icing are traditionally consumed on Good Friday and throughout the Easter season. © MMX, CBS Interactive Inc. Have Your Cake And Eat It Too In The Realm Of Desserts, Cakes Reign Supreme Written by Long Island Press on Feb 4th, 2010 The cupcake just refuses to go out of style. It has been a consistent bestseller at A Taste of Home Bakery, which has helped sisters Rose Fuger and Monica Tarantino get through some tough economic times. It’s an all-American staple. Everybody loves cupcakes. “Cupcake towers are very popular for weddings,” Monica says. “We’ll build a tower with between 30 and 100 cupcakes.” You can have your cupcake and eat it too, even if you’re on a gluten-free, sugar-free or peanut-free diet, because Rose and Monica can accommodate any food allergy. Serving cupcakes instead of the traditional wedding cake can be much more cost effective than a traditional cake. Still, many brides prefer the traditional tiered cake, but there are many new options to choose from. “One of our brides had eight fillings and every tier http://www.longislandpress.com/2010/02/04/have-your-cake-and-eat-it-too/ 2/9/2010 Have Your Cake And Eat It Too | Long Island Press Page 2 of 4 was different,” Monica says. “It was total chaos for the people who served it!” For budget-conscious brides, cookie favors have become very popular. ”We make scrumptious cookies—filled with raspberry, peanut butter or fudge— and put them in beautiful boxes or bags with a pretty ribbon. It’s fresh baked, it’s reasonable and many brides now prefer an edible favor,” Monica says. Daniele Messina, vice president of Dortoni Bakery Pastry Shoppe in Levittown and La Bonne Boulangerie Bakery & Pastry Shoppe in Port Jefferson and East Norwich says, “A lot of these [reality] television shows like Cake Boss have helped stimulate interest in the [baking] field and people understand the pricing and why it’s so expensive. They can see how much goes into [creating] it.” Monica agrees that food TV is having an impact on their business. “Red velvet is very big—it’s a Southern tradition that’s taken off with the Food Network and the bride shows, and in that tradition we’ll be offering red velvet ‘whooppee’ cakes.” These small cakes are also known as Moon Pies and got their start in Pennsylvania Dutch country. They are known as whoopee pies because children would exclaim “Whoopee!” when the cakes were ready to eat. Birthdays have definitely got the bakery business into customizing for the occasion. “People want to personalize the cake where it’s about the person and reflects that person’s interest,” Monica says. “If people want to spend $17 on a cake, they’re not looking for a good cake, they’re looking for something to put on a table. We’ll make exactly what you want, and it will taste delicious.” Now when placing a special order for a birthday cake, Dortoni’s will ask what the person’s hobbies are to come up with a totally unique creation In fact, Daniele said that they just made a three-dimensional cake of a bull mastiff that cost $2,000. This is something that is just not taught in culinary school. Now that takes the cake. (Last updated on February 4, 2010 at 11:44 am) and filed under LI Community News, News.
