They do not perpetuate violence. If someone is strangled with pantyhose—nobody calls it ’Pantyhose Violence’. If someone drowns nobody calls it ’Water Violence’. The term ’Gun Violence’ is designed to villainize the inanimate Gun in the eyes of the willfully ignorant in the press, the purposefully deceitful in public office, and the criminally mislead in the general population." Thank you to OKC Gun Club for your support of collegiate shooting sports April 2016 Primer OKCGC 2016 ANNUAL ELECTION VOTER GUIDE Board of Director Candidates 6 April 2016 Primer DAVID BARKER Fellow Voting Members, Greetings and thank you very much for your past support and all that you do for our club! The past three years have gone by quickly and it is again time for me to ask for your support to continue my service as a director. I will keep this plea much shorter than my last feature length bio. I am now a retired from the military after 24 years and I have found a little bit more time to devote to the club as my job is no longer 24/7. I have been a member of the board and Archery Division Chairman since 2008 . Last year I was elected by the board as the club Secretary and I would like to continue in that position with your approval. I remain a lifelong shooting enthusiast and truly enjoy introducing new people to the shooting sports. I am also a state Hunting Education instructor and International Bowhunter Education Program instructor and I find teaching these classes is a rewarding experience. I believe a combination of my military experience in planning and leadership along with past service as a director and experience building top tier, Archery clubs in different states make me a well qualified candidate to represent you on the Board. I certainly hope you agree. We have a world class shooting facility that is still accessible to the average family. You can be very proud of what the club has accomplished as a whole and the service/facilities we provide to our members and the public during State, National and even World-level events. On the division level we have raised the Archery Division from the ashes and made it the best range in the state according to many of our shooters. We are now self-sufficient and host state level events for national organizations and have people travel from neighboring states for our tournaments. Your current directors have done an excellent job of balancing the needs of the entire club with the needs and wants of individual divisions. We are able to cooperate and collaborate (most of the time) for the common purpose of continuous improvement of our facilities and members' benefits. We have seen tremendous growth in the club and I am truly excited about our future developments. I am proud to be a member of this group and would like to continue my contribution to our growth and improvement. I would certainly appreciate your vote and support to continue in my position as your representative on the board . Sincerely, David Barker [Candidates Continued On Next Page] 7 April 2016 Primer 8 MATT JOHNSON Dear Voting member, I am pleased to be again writing a letter to you asking for your support as a candidate for Director of the Oklahoma City Gun Club. Several years ago we started this process which includes candidates writing letters to voting members as a way to provide members with more information allowing them to make more informed choices. I am sure this year will be no exception as I continue to be impressed with the number (and quality) of our members who come forward offering their valuable time, energy, and experience to help make the Oklahoma City Gun Club a better organization. I have been an active member of the Oklahoma City Gun Club since approximately 1994, a voting member since 1997, have served on the Board of Directors since approximately 2004, and have been the club 's Treasurer since 2006. I also serve as one of the Co-chairman of the Action Pistol Division. Since 1958 the Oklahoma City Gun Club has grown to become recognized as one of if not the finest facilities in the region and the past several years have seen continued improvements across many ranges. I believe the role of the Board of Directors is to ensure we continue to make responsible financial decisions to both improve the facilities for existing members as well as future generations. That requires balancing the desires for immediate improvements with saving for the future. If you have been a member for many years I am certain you have noticed the many infrastructure improvements that we have made over the last 10 years. The board has provided funding for virtually all major range improvements across the entire club, while at the same time allocation of funds for future improvements. In fact, the Club has never been as strong financially as it is today because of the decisions the Board has made over the last 10-15 years, and with your vote we can continue the growth In order for the OKCGC Board of Directors to make the best decisions I believe it is important for voting members to select their representatives based on the knowledge and ability each individual rings to the Board. As an organization we have grown substantially since 1958 with currently nearly 2,300 members and significant financial resources and responsibilities. I believe my 20+ years of experience as a Certified Public accountant provide me with knowledge and abilities that I can contribute to the Club in order to continue the success and growth we have enjoyed over the last 58 years. I ask for your vote to continue representing you on the Board of Directors for the Oklahoma City Gun Club. Respectfully, Matt Johnson [Candidates Continued On Next Page] April 2016 Primer 9 MARC MCCORMICK I have been on the board of the gun club for. the last 6 years, and a member for almost 20 years. I took this position to represent all: the members of the club, not just the members of one division or discipline. Prior to serving on the board, I have been the division chairman of the plinking range. That means that I maintain one of the most heavily used ranges in the facility. I believe the frequent contact with the diverse & many members who utilize the plinking range gives me a broad understanding of the memberships needs and allows me to help give voice to the general membership thus assuring no one division monopolizes the club resources In my years of gun club membership, I have been involved in many projects for the club such as air conditioning the clubhouse, taking care of the internet service for the club house, constructing the ricochet protection over the plinking range targets, paving the shooting area of the plinking range and covering the plinking range firing line Over the years I have been involved in a number of decisions that the board has made including increasing membership and a number of capital projects. There is little doubt that these decisions have resulted in creating one of the finest shooting facilities in the nation . If I am elected to continue on the board, I intend to continue making decisions based on the needs of the entire membership and for the overall benefit of the club as a whole Thank you for your consideration and I appreciate your vote SUZI ROUSE To Whom It May Concern: The purpose of this letter is to notify the Board I will be seeking re-election of my board position, which terminates May 2016. I have been a member of the Oklahoma City Gun Club ("OKCGC") for 19 years . Approximately 17 years ago I was approached about starting some type of women 's program and in December of 1999, I was elected to serve as the Chairman of the first ever Women's Division of the OKCGC. In 2000, I wrote and received a grant from the National Rifle Association ("NRA") to host a women's instructional shooting clinic ("Women's Fun Shoot") and submitted a separate grant to train 10 women to be NRA certified firearms instructors. Since that time, I have continued to coordinate this event and the 17th Annual Women's Fun Shoot will be held September 10, 2016. With the time and dedication of so many OKCGC members, this event has been the largest and most successful women's shooting clinic in the United States since its inception. [Candidates Continued On Next Page] April 2016 Primer 10 In addition to our Oklahoma women, we have had ladies come in from California, Arkansas, Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri, Colorado, Florida and Texas to attend. In 1999, I was frightened I could not get anyone but myself to attend. Fortunately, that was not the case and 57 women showed up for the First Annual Women's Fun Shoot. Due to its tremendous growth and success, for the past 10 years I have had to turn ladies away as the popularity has been astounding. This event has introduced over 7,000 women and youth to the shooting sports The OKCGC Women's Fun Shoot is the role model for women's instructional shooting clinics across the nation and I have consulted with numerous clubs and associations over the past l7 years who have started their own shooting clinics and even gone as far as to establish their own women's shooting groups. I feel it is imperative to embrace women and youth in our shooting sports to ensure our continued growth as a whole. The OKCGC has done this with vigor and is something I am personally so pleased to be a part of. have continued to write grants and receive funding from the NRA for the past 17 years to offset costs involved with putting on this event. In addition to serving as the Women's Division Chairman, I have served as an officer since 2001 and currently hold the position of President for the past 9 years. I also serve as the Co-Chairman for the Training Division and the 5-Stand Division. In 2005, I was awarded the first Marion P. Hammer Women of Distinction Award from the NRA. Marion P. Hammer (first female president of the NRA) actually- presented me with the award to acknowledge my efforts and dedication in promoting women in shooting and providing educational opportunities. It was an extremely proud moment for me and I accepted the award on behalf of the OKCGC, as I felt had it not been for the OKCGC and all those members who had volunteered their Saturday every September for the past 16 years, it would not have been possible. As a board member, and in particular as President, it is my belief one of my duties is to be a spokesperson and liaison to the community. I think it is vital to remember there is a large and active sector of the population that have no use whatsoever for the shooting sports, gun clubs and/ or preserving our Second Amendment rights. This is in the forefront more so now than it has ever been. With this in mind, I have worked diligently and methodically to make a connection with the local community and Oklahoma Legislature by showing that OKCGC serves a vital role in this regard. Our existence could be challenged at any time and building a personal relationship with the community is critical to help ensure our continued growth and existence. I feel during my term as a board member I have accomplished this by making opportunities available and changing attitudes as they relate to shooting sports and more importantly, the OKCGC. [Candidates Continued On Next Page] April 2016 Primer 11 Some of the events I have coordinated and/ or been involved with during my term are listed below: • Oklahoma City University Law School Fall and Spring Shoot • FFA State Championship Sporting Clay Shoot (received honorary degree from FFA Foundation and OSU) • Shotgun shoot for Fathers/ Sons of School for the Deaf • Rifle shoot for residents of the Boys Ranch Town • Merit Badge Certification for Boy Scouts (rifle and shotgun) • Washington and Lee University Oklahoma Alumni Shoot • lronman Squadron Faireconron Three from Tinker AFB • Shotgun shoot for the rodeo queens/ cowboys of the Ram Circuit Finals Rodeo • 5-stand portion of OSU Collegiate Shoot for college shotgun teams from all over US • 5-stand portion of Land Run Cowboy Action Shoot • Military Appreciation Shoot open to all active and retired military personnel • Ladies only AR-15 Clinic for Texas DIVA Wow Organization • Hunter Education certifications via the Training Division • Shotgun clinic for Oklahoma City Orchestra League • Shotgun clinic for Oklahoma State Chamber of Commerce • Ladies only handgun/shotgun for Women in the Outdoors of the NWTF • Oklahoma Dept. of Wildlife Conservation training for the STEP program • Shotgun shoot for Oklahoma Legislatures with a senator and/ or representative from every district present and was asked to confer and testify before the Oklahoma legislature regarding pending legislation that could possibly affect gun clubs. • CMP Games via the Civilian Marksmanship Program • Instructors Training for the Oklahoma \Scholastic Shooting Program via the ODWC • Honoring American Warrior Veteran 's-Shoot and Quail Hunt My commitment and contributions given to this organization over the years has been a personal accomplishment I am extremely pro d to be a part of . In particular, being the first female to occupy a seat on the Board of Directors in over 58 years. I have seen the OKCGC grow and experience many changes over the past 17 years and it is my privilege and honor to be a part of this club. We are one of the largest operating gun clubs in the nation and have so much to offer to our-members. With this in mind, I would ask for your continued support and ask that you cast your vote on the ballot in the upcoming election for Suzi Rouse as a Board of Director of the OKCGC. Respectfully, Suzi Rouse, President Member, Board of Directors Women's Division Chairman | Training Division Co-Chairman I 5-Stand Co-Chairman LEON STRICKLAND To the Oklahoma City Gun Club Voting Members. I am Leon Strickland I have been a member of the Oklahoma City Gun Club for around 20 years, I have been on the board of directors for 8 years. I am asking for your support to continue serving on the board of directors to continue representing you and other Oklahoma City Gun Club members. With your support I will continue to help [Candidates Continued On Next Page] April 2016 Primer 12 all the divisions grow to better accommodate all members and support our youth programs growth. I support all divisions and club members I was co-chairman of the shotgun division for a while, in that time I helped build the old part of the club house. Myself and other club members completed field 1 skeet field and built the field 1 trap house. along with building the pavilion I formed a Facility Maintenance Committees made up of dedicated club members that made It easy to operate the facility. I helped the archery division with their building, I completed the above ground plumbing and Installed the toilets and other fixtures plus helping construct the inner walls. I helped complete the main club house restrooms with two club member plumbers and a club member cabinet maker. who built the stall panels. The Oklahoma City Gun Club is the best club around let me help keep it that way . I would appreciate your vote. Leon Strickland MARK E. VAUGHAN Dear Members of the Oklahoma City Gun Club: I humbly wish to be considered for re-election to the board of directors of our club. I joined the Oklahoma City Gun Club over 32 year ago and have served the club as director since 1994. I have held several positions in the club including division director, first and second vice president and as club president, 2002-2008. I have participated and competed in many of the shooting pursuits that our club offers including Cowboy Action, IPSC, Skeet and Black Powder Cartridge Rifle Silhouette. I hold instructor certifications with the NRA, Oklahoma Education, the Boy Scouts of America and law enforcement. During my time serving in various club leadership roles, I have been involved in the wonderful transformation of our club that today is benefiting so many members, the shooting community and our community in general. I'm very proud of our club, its membership and the hard work we have all accomplished together. However, there's much yet to be done - new challenges, new opportunities. I believe that I can continue to be of service to our club. Thank You, Mark E. Vaughan - End of Voter Guide – Primer April 2016 13 YOUNG HUNTERS!!!
