As you know, we have a building on the north end of the range which will become our new club house, complete with two bathrooms and house for the war wagon. There will be several follow-on projects later. We are working diligently to complete the interior work so we will be fully operational as quickly as possible. A lot of planning has gone into this and we think at the end of the day it’ll be nice. Shortly, we will have a couple of additional bays where the closed rifle range was which will be followed by shade covers. Essentially, our normal operations will be run from the north end of the range – IPSC, ICORE, Steel Challenge, and 3-Gun. SCORING NEWS: With USPSA now committing to the Practiscore software, we have finally taken the plunge. We ordered some equipment to test it out – did some testing – and ordered enough devices and components to run club matches using Practiscore. One nice aspect to this is that the same devices and software can be used to support our other shooting events as well. Will you be ready? Actually, from the shooter’s perspective, the actual use of the scoring software to enter results is easy. Practiscore is a free app that runs on iOS or Android devices, so anyone with a compatible device (iPhone, Droid, Kindle, Nook, etc) that wants to become familiar with it can download it. That said, matches will be run on club-provided devices only. As one of the folks who enters nearly 600 score sheets per IPSC match, this will be a welcome change for me! SECTIONAL NEWS: We are planning to hold a Sectional Match the first Saturday in September, with Sunday being an alternate for potential weather delays. We have not yet finalized details to release, but will do so shortly. Our next IPSC match will be April 5th. ALWAYS CHECK THE WEBSITE FOR LAST MINUTE UPDATES & SCORES. 5 April 2014 Primer . But getting to enjoy informal indoor matches at our club is something new. What started with only a handful of shooters, has grown to a regular attendance of about a dozen or so. We get together every Friday morning for matches at 9:30 a.m. inside the main club house. All it takes to get in on the fun is an accurate shooting pellet gun and about an hour and a half of your time. You'll find all kinds of guns at the matches, about equally divided between rifles and pistols. A good scope is a must, the more magnification, the better. The entry fee is only $2 and shooting is done off tables at 18 yards. I can guaranty some challenging fun-type paper targets and a chance to even win a couple bucks in prizes. We'll continue shooting on Friday's until the .22 matches begin on the bench rest range in the middle of April. At that time air gun matches will continue meeting, but change to the 1st and 3rd Mondays at 9:30 a.m. in the club house. In a time when ammo is costly and hard to find, this is a great way to have some inexpensive shooting fun. 7 April 2014 8 Primer April 2014 Primer Heartland Friends of NRA Apr 5, 2014 at OKC Gun Club (Main Clubhouse) SDA SAFETY COURSE APPLICATION QUESTIONS on CC – Contact Instructor Anthony Davey (405) 818-7904 ENROLL: contact Gail 405-850-3524 or email [email protected] PRINT Exactly as on Driver’s License DL # First Name Middle (name or initial) Last Name Address City State Zip Telephone ( ) -‐ DOB Month – Day – Year E-‐mail__________________________________________ Cash, Money order, cashier check or personal checks accepted. I'm very sincere in asking for your support and votes to be placed on the Board. I will do my best to represent all of our divisions equally. I think I have the broad experience over multiple shooting disciplines to be a great Board Member representing you. My life and shooting division experience is listed below. I've been an Oklahoma City Gun Club Member for over 10 years, and a voting member for the last 5 years. I'm a lifelong shooter and hunter in many different areas. Since becoming a member of the OKCGC, I've shot archery, FFClass Rifle, Action Pistol, and 3 gun matches. I have also shot in several different OKCGC Spring and Summer skeet leagues. I also plan to assist and shoot the soon coming IDPA matches. I'm a current member of the National Rifle Association, United States Practical Shooting Association, and the International Defensive Shooting Association. I'm a USPSA Certified Range Officer. To assist with the upcoming IDPA matches, I have also completed the IDPA Safety Officer class. In my professional career, I am a commercial construction estimator. estimator. This job involves dealing with a lot of different people with a lot of different personalities. I feel I am an effective communicator with many different personality types and this will be a useful asset if I am elected to the Board. I look forward to serving you on the OKCGC Board of Directors. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at [email protected]. [email protected] Sincerely, Phillip Brandt WEB Brown My name is William Edward (WEB) Brown. I am running for the Oklahoma City Gun Club board of directors in May 2014. I have been actively involved in the gun club as a senior member for approximately 15 years. During those years, I've sampled or actively participated in most of the divisions. I'm a lifetime NRA member, avid shooter, re loader, and general general gun enthusiast. With the growth of the gun club, it's important that we make sound and business like decisions to promote and secure the future of the gun club. I've been a successful business owner in Oklahoma City for over 20 years. I'd like to o apply those same principles to help the gun club in it's growth and future. I would appreciate your vote in the upcoming elections! Sincerely Yours; WEB Brown [Candidates Continued On Page 3] Page 2 of 10 OKCGC 2014 ANNUAL ELECTION VOTER GUIDE Board of Director Candidates Si Fentress OKCGC Club Members I am running again for reelection to the Club Board of Trustees and I would appreciate an opportunity to continue to serve the club. I joined the club in the late 70’ss and have actively participated in 3d Archery, the Skeet league, Bullseye pistol, Silhouette, High Power, Action pistol, 3 Gun, Steel Challenge, AR steel challenge, Military bolt action, Prairie Dog, 22BR, CMP and Vintage Sniper matches at our club. I have also run and assisted running matches at our club. Previously I held a position on the board for a number of years and was treasurer in the late 80’s – early 90’s. I have a unique long term perspective of our club and I am interested in the overall well being b of the club, its members and all divisions within the club. I ask for your continued support and thank you for letting me be of service to our club. Si Fentress Jim Fields Being my term as a board member will expire this year (2014) my intention is to seek re-election re for another term. I have been a member of the Oklahoma City Gun Club since 1962 (52 years) have been on the board & division chairman for the pistol silhouette division 31 years. With the help of a lot of club members, I've built our silhouette s range into a world class complex including a pneumatic auto-reset auto reset target system which is second to none. I've overseen over 450 IHMSA monthly matches as well as 160 championship matches including state, regional & an IHMSA world championship match which was held in 2012 & another IHMSA world championship is scheduled July 18th thru the 25th of this year. I've been the club's caretaker for the past 10 years. I've donated countless hours over the years on many projects which have been beneficial not only to my division but to the club as a whole including constructing eight (8) steel buildings on different ranges. Thank you, JIM FIELDS, Match Director, OKC Gun Club, 405 405-203-1268 J.R. Hile To: Oklahoma City Gun Club Members. My wife Melody and I have been members of the OKC Gun Club for approximately 20 years. ears. About five years ago, I decided that if our club was to continue to grow and improve, members who have the time and are able should take a more active role and do more to help the club. We initially became more involved by volunteering at the Ladies Fun Shoot and trying to learn more about the individual divisions within the club. We currently shoot in the skeet league and Cowboy Action Shooting and enjoy the bench rest and plinking range. After helping with several projects, I was elected as a division division chairman and have attended the monthly board meetings for the past three years. Last year when the Board decided to change the election process, I was asked to oversee the election. Many of you, who have been club members a lot longer than me, have seen seen many changes to our club in the last 5 to 10 years. Some of the changes you probably like and some you may not. But one thing we can all agree on, is that the club has changed. With these changes come new challenges. Many of the changes are a direct result resu of the unprecedented growth in membership and range usage. The upside to this growth is additional money to make significant improvements to our range. [J.R Hile Continued On Page 4] Page 3 of 10 OKCGC 2014 ANNUAL ELECTION VOTER GUIDE Board of Director Candidates J.R. Hile (Continued) In years past, with 400 members and an annual budget of approximately $40,000.00, it was pretty simple to manage the club’s resources. With 2200 plus members and an annual operating budget in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, it is critical that we have board members with business and financial management experience. Our club’s size and financial resources now make us a target for anyone who feels like we would be an easy mark. We must take steps to protect the club. As board members, we must recognize that we have fiduciary responsibility to our members and our actions must be above reproach. Decisions must be made from the standpoint of “what is good for the club”, not strictly for the benefit of a division and absolutely not for individual personal gain. I feel that my background, which consists, of managing a very successful business for over twenty years, gives me the experience that is needed to provide a real benefit to our club and I would be honored if you select me to serve you and all the members by electing me to the Board of Directors. The next few years will be critical to the survival of not only our club, but also to shooting sports and gun ownership in general. It is very important that we as a group not only support and defend these rights, but also try to get others involved in the shooting sports. If we don’t vigorously protect these rights, then who will? Our club must continue to be at the forefront of defense of our rights and our ability to exercise these rights. I would appreciate your vote and support and I look forward to serving you. Andrew E. Karim Allow me to introduce myself. I am Andrew Karim, a husband, a father of three children, and a lawyer who has been in private practice for nearly 30 years. I graduated from Classen High School (sometimes referred to as “Old” Classen), Central State University (now UCO), and the University of Tulsa College of Law. I have been a member of the Gun Club for several years — since the time my children joined the Oklahoma County 4-H Shooting Sports Club, which was, and continues to be, hosted and supported by the Gun Club. During the years my sons were competitive 4-H shotgun shooters, I helped in various ways including being a puller and scorer at shooting events such as the annual State Skeet competitions, which were (and are) held at the Gun Club. With Boy Scouts being the driving force, I became an NRA-certified Range Safety Officer and instructor in shotgun and pistol. My sons are Eagle Scouts, each one having completed his Eagle Service Project at the Gun Club’s Youth Campground; the postand-beam entry and the raised platform with flag poles. Both are visible from the road just before reaching the benchrest and plinking ranges. For the past five years, I have been one of many instructor-volunteers at the .22 rifle range during the Annual Women’s Fun Shoot. Simply put, service on the Board would be an honor and a privilege, affording me another way to “give back.” The Gun Club’s website states that “our future is vested in our membership – present and future.” I hope to bring to the table a new enthusiasm geared toward promoting what is important to our current members and contributing to our strategic plan to sustain the Gun Club for future generations. I ask for your vote. Thank you. [Candidates Continued On Page 5] Page 4 of 10 OKCGC 2014 ANNUAL ELECTION VOTER GUIDE Board of Director Candidates Jere Korthanke Hello, my name is Jere Korthanke and I would appreciate your support and your vote as your representative to the Board of Directors for the Okl Oklahoma ahoma City Gun Club. The Board of Directors is the group elected to represent your interests in the oversight and management of the gun club. Our club has grown to the point (2200 members) that we are at a critical point in the future of our club. I have vvisited, isited, as a guest and a competitor, many clubs around the country and I can tell you, that we have one of the best clubs in America. I personally believe that, as members, we have a responsibility to contribute whatever we are able to help our club, not only nly grow but also to improve the club for our current members. I have been a member of the OKC Gun Club for many years and I became a Senior Member (what is now a voting member) in 2008. Since joining the club I have enjoyed many of the different shooting disciplines that the club offers, including shotgun, bench rest, plinking, cowboy action, steel challenge, and I am planning to participate in all the action pistol division events soon. I believe my varied shooting interests will help me to represent all of our members, regardless of which games they like to play. I also believe that members who use the facility are better able to know what our club and our members need. I am also a life member of the NRA. My wife Joan is also a participant in various shooting shooting sports and as you can imagine spending time at the club is an important part of our life. Our son Jason, a gun club member, has two great daughters whom I hope will grow up and be able to enjoy our shooting heritage and the OKC Gun Club as much as we we do. AS a board member, I will do everything that I can to preserve these rights for all of us to enjoy. I am presently a Captain with the Oklahoma City Fire Department. I will be retiring with 25 years of service this summer, which will allow me to dedicate dedicate more time to the club. One of the things I have learned through my career with the fire department is that much can be accomplished if you can work well with others toward a common goal. It will be my goal to help the club by never losing sight of what what I feel our members truly want. I have not served on the board previously, so I don’t take office as part of any particular group. My goal will be to serve all members of the Oklahoma City Gun Club. Thank You. Jack Legg To the Board of Directors and the Membership of the Oklahoma City Gun Club: It would be an honor for me to serve the Oklahoma City Gun Club as a member of the Board of Directors. The Oklahoma City Gun Club has been a large and important part of my life for the past fifteen years, and it is important that we pass the club on to the next generation in even a better condition than we find it in today. My view of a board member is that he or she represents and is responsible to the entire club membership and not to just a single division. It should be the goal of each member, as well as of each director, to promote the wholesome and safe participation in the shooting sports and to extend a positive image of the shooting sports to the public in general. The financial health and the public perception of the Oklahoma City Gun Club is going to be critical in the future preservation of the club as those who are enemies of the rights of gun owners and of the shooting sports attempt to limit our activities or to force the closing of the club entirely. Thoughtful, mature, experienced leadership is needed for our club's future. If you believe I am capable of such leadership, I would appreciate your vote in the upcoming board election. If I am fortunate enough to be elected, I pledge my best efforts and diligence in serving you, the membership of the Oklahoma City Gun Club. [Jack Legg Continued On Page 6] Page 5 of 10 OKCGC 2014 ANNUAL ELECTION VOTER GUIDE Board of Director Candidates Jack Legg (Continued) Some of you know me quite well, but others of you do not know me. Therefore, I am going to give you a brief autobiography of myself and hopefully give you information that will let you see that I am qualified to serve you and the club. I am a graduate of the University of Central Oklahoma earning a degree in Business Administration with a major in real estate. I have over forty years of business experience in sales and management. I served in the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. Jackie, my wife and best friend, and I have been married for forty-four years and are the parents of two beautiful, grown daughters and the proud grandparents of two beautiful granddaughters. For the past fifteen years, I have participated in cowboy action shooting here at the Oklahoma City Gun Club and for several years Iwas the Match Director and Co-Match Director of Land Run, one of the largest cowboy action competitions in the nation. I also participate in skeet shooting here at the gun club and have shot registered skeet here and at other clubs. I am currently on the committee to form and build the Five- Stand Division for our club. I have supported and been a volunteer of "Women on Target", the Women's Fun Shoot for many years. I also use other portions of the club on a regular basis and as I mentioned earlier, I am interested in the success of each division and shooting sport our club supports. I ask for your support and vote for my membership on the Board of Directors of the Oklahoma City Gun Club. Bill Norfleet I would ask that you support me in my request to be elected Director of the Oklahoma City Gun Club (OKCGC) Board of Directors. The past 12 years serving as Membership Chairman has been quite an experience. There are times I have been frustrated, and I am sure, there are times I have caused others frustration. Understandably there have been growing pains as membership has increased nearly 260% from 920 to 3,200. The sheer numbers dictate that there will be a few problems with mail, addresses, work day reporting, etc. Problems this year have been very few as the system has been refined. Transitioning to the "Lock Box" system, with checks going directly to the bank, has made things both easier and faster. I also instituted an invoicing system for membership dues - which have grown 400% in the last 12 years. Oversight of the new Membership Orientation Packet from approval stage through design and production was one of my projects this year as well. Currently a new data base system is in the works for smoother handling of all membership related issues. During my tenure on the Board I participated in the clarification of Club bylaws, a frequent issue for clubs that grow as fast as the OKCGC is growing. With that growth in mind I negotiated and purchased two different parcels of land in the NW quarter section on behalf of the Club. In addition to my role as Membership Chairman, I have been very active brainstorming with others for ways to enhance the Club. Following are various illustrations demonstrating that I have the foresight to help us become an even better club in the future. [Bill Norfleet Continued On Page 7] Page 6 of 10 OKCGC 2014 ANNUAL ELECTION VOTER GUIDE Board of Director Candidates Bill Norfleet (Continued) I have been involved in many improvements at the Club, new buildings for the Archery and Cowboy divisions, remodeling of both the Main Clubhouse great room and kitchen are just two examples. Within the Shotgun Division I designed, gained approval for, and constructed the expansion of the Shotgun Clubhouse. Funds to purchase the Pat-Trap Trap Trap Machine for Field 2 derived from the grant I wrote to the Friends of the NRA. I assisted in initiating other grant requests from Friends of the NRA for Shotgun, Youth, and Training divisions. I designed and installed an irrigation system for the Shotgun Divison, all labor donated. I was responsible for the new Target Storage building uilding and am currently working on design and approval of additional Skeet and Trap fields. Additionally I ran Registered Shoots for three years and instituted highly successful Monthly Fun Shoots. As Co-Chair of the 5-Stand Stand Division I helped manage all shoots and assisted with the planning, approval of , and current construction of, two new permanent 5-Stand 5 Stand fields. Grants I have written to the Friends of NRA have been utilized to purchase most of the 5-Stand Stand traps. Outside of the OKCGC, I have been a member of Heartland Friends of NRA Committee for the past 12 years acting as Chairman for five of those years. During my stint as Chairman the Committee raised over $500,000 with half of the funds dedicated to Oklahoma needs. The youth shooting functions (4H, FFA, BSA etc.), the Women's Fun Shoot, and the Shotgun Division have all benefitted from Committee funds. The Committee is so successful that it has been ranked in the top 40 of 1,200 Committees nationwide for 10 years and in the top 10 for the last ttwo years. At the OKCGC, one of my current goals is to formulate an overall plan for the Club to address all possible environmental issues and begin a lead recovery program. Recently I attended a 10 day NRA Range Management seminar and training for NRA Field ld Engineering Representative in order to better serve the OKCGC. I'm sure you can tell from reviewing the many ways that I serve the Club that my dedication to the OKCGC is sincere. As Director that commitment would be utilized to continue the current ttrajectory rajectory of the Club from modest beginnings to one of the top Gun Clubs in the United States. I appreciate your consideration and hope that you will support me in this endeavor. Sincerely, Bill Norfleet, Secretary – OKCGC, Board of Directors Will Richter Dear Oklahoma City Gun Club Voting Members I have been a member of the club for about ten years and a voting member for half of that time. Over the years I have participated in many disciplines at our club. Currently 3-gun 3 and USPSA take up pretty much all my time. I feel that having a diverse background b of the different divisions will give me a broader sense of what the club needs as a whole. I am a NRA Endowment Member. Also I am a USPSA certified Range Officer. In my professional career I am a Medical Physicist. With that job, I consult at many facilities throughout Oklahoma and Texas. I believe this background makes me a better candidate for the board. I deal with many people at different facilities on a day to day basis. The problem solving aspects of my job can apply to the club. [Will Richter Continued On Page 8] Page 7 of 10 OKCGC 2014 ANNUAL ELECTION VOTER GUIDE Board of Director Candidates Will Richter (Continued) I will do my best to take the club forward in the years to come. I see a lot of good things taking place now. We are getting 5 stand going and an IDPA division started. I have become an IDPA Safety Officer in order to help facilitate this growth. One of the things vitally important to our way is getting new people involved. It is awesome to see all the new people coming to the monthly USPSA pistol match. John and Matt have the biggest USPSA match in the state going and all of the new shooters are pretty much instantly hooked and wanting more. The women’s fun shoot is also another very positive way to get new people involved. Give them a little and they love it. This is what I do and what I love. I think the best way for me to do that and help out more is for me to serve on the BOD. Thank you. Sincerely, Will Richter Rick Rowan Dear Voting Member: I have maintained a lifelong interest and passion for the shooting and hunting sports for more than 55 years and have tried to pass this love down to my wife, children, grandsons and anyone else that appears they may have an interest in the shooting sports. I have been a member of the club since 1992 and a member of the NRA for many, many years, and in the past was a member of the Wichita Kansas Gun Club, San Antonio Texas Gun Club, the Tinker AFB Gun Club and served as the Assistant Skeet Director at the Capital City Gun Club (Topeka Kansas). My experience includes 40 years of organized formal competition in American Trap, American Skeet, Metallic Rifle Silhouette, Sporting Clays and IPSC, participation in informal International Trap and Skeet competition, as well as 5-Stand competition at the club and other shooting events. Although I rarely compete these days, I do enjoy using the Bench rest, Plinking, Bullseye, Black Powder, Training and Shotgun ranges at our club at every opportunity as well as participating in the camaraderie of the informal shooting events at our club. As a side note, if it is deemed to be of value to serving on the board, my past experience includes serving as Director of a department in a large corporation with responsibility for leadership of 250 employees, fiscal responsibility for a $9 Million annual budget; and have had my own small business for the last 6 years. If elected, I believe I would complement the existing board in being a good sounding board to others ideas, providing ideas , leadership and direction to the club to help make one of the finest shooting facilities in the country become even better in the future for all of the club members. Thank you for your consideration. Best Regards, Rick Rowan [Candidates Continued On Page 9] Page 8 of 10 OKCGC 2014 ANNUAL ELECTION VOTER GUIDE Board of Director Candidates Kent Shomber OKCGC Members: First let me briefly introduce myself. I am a 27 year veteran to the Edmond Fire Department, living in Logan County about 3 miles from our club. I have been an OKCGC member since roughly 1990 and have been a very active both competitively and through service as the High-power range chairman/match director for the past 14 years, and then most recently, board membership for the past three years. I am seeking re-election to the board for the following reasons: I have really enjoyed working with the Board of Trustees. Your board is a bunch of professionals who truly have the interest of the membership and your club at heart. I consider board membership as a true privilege. Over the past 24 years I have literally been involved in hundreds of gun club improvements and maintenance projects in multiple divisions. I see club improvement as the cornerstone to a healthy and growing organization. As a member of the board, I just won’t vote to advance the club through improvements; you can bet I’ll be on the business end of a shovel or running a tractor, getting things done. I am a competitive shooter both with the high-power division and with cowboy action (though I’m not real ‘competitive’ overt there) and have competed with 4 other divisions. I consider competitive shooting an extremely important piece of our club and see competitive shooters as those who normally contribute the most to our club. As your board member I will continue to encourage casual shooters to compete. Our involvement in our shooting sports brings other competitive shooters to our club thus increasing visibility and revenue. In closing, thanks for considering me for continued board membership. We really have something special here in the OKCGC, and I’m continually proud to contribute. Kent Shomber Buck Sifford Madam President I, W. C. Sifford, alias Buck Sifford, do hereby summit this letter indicating my intensions to have my name place on the ballot of candidates for club director. I have been a member of the OKC Gun Club for over 20 years. I am a skeet shooters and also serve as League Director of the Shotgun Division. I host 3 leagues per year with last year's Spring league having 120 shooters. I am active in the NSSA (National Skeet Shooting Association) and the Armed Forces Skeet Association where I served 6 years as one of the directors representing the Retired Air Force members. I am a retired Air Force Major. I Have extensive experience in operating multi-million dollar operations and supervising hundreds of Airmen. During my Air Force career I was deployed and assigned around the world and during those deployments and assignments I worked with hundreds of fellow service members from numerous nations. I will bring that considerable experience with me to serve the OKC Gun Club. I understand that a director of the OKC Gun Club does not just serve the division that he or she is most associated with but must serve the entire Gun Club. I will make decisions that reflect what is best for the Gun Club. Please add my name to the list of club members that want to be an OKC Gun Club Director. [Buck Sifford is Continued On Page 10] Page 9 of 10 OKCGC 2014 ANNUAL ELECTION VOTER GUIDE Board of Director Candidates Buck Sifford (Continued) Due to the fact that 99% of the club members that know me know me as Buck Sifford, please list my name on the ballot as Buck Sifford or W.
