Tappity TAP News Is a Picture Really Worth 1,000 Words? By: Tina Gbollie Social Media is a communications class offered by Ms. Lephart and Ms. Ledman in the alternative program. This class focuses on media and applying a critical understanding of it. The purpose of this class is to build greater understanding and awareness of the issues happening in our generation. Because of the smaller class size, there’s more discussion and everyone voice is gets heard. The class spent a lot of time talking about photo shopping. Students learn a lot from this unit and how it shows how we are supposed to look and dress. The way we should portray ourselves by trying to look like the people in the magazines and look perfect. By these high standards they set can make many girls feel insecure about themselves and confidence level goes down. Not thinking that 100% of all pictures models take there are all photo shopped. Basically everything you see in the magazines is fake and not really how they appear to be. The class also touched based on a lot of topics such as double standards, bulling, animal rights, bias and many more. According to Quinn, having the iPads is a HUGE advantage in her classroom. “During movies, lectures, and discussions, students can look up information that he/she was unsure about. The iPad often offers enrichment opportunities.” says Quinn. can also work on their projects on the go. Such as in a car, bus, hallway, anywhere they please. The iPads are a good investment for students. No longer do they have a lot of weight from text books or folders full of work in their backpacks. It’s all on their iPad. So overall, a majority of teachers and students enjoy the iPads. Quinn enjoys working with the iPads. Students can email their teachers and work on their homework much easier, and if you forget to charge them one night? You still got more than enough to get through the next day. Students MN School of Business Trip By: Devin Gregersen The Minnesota School of Business in Plymouth is an interesting school. It varies from audio and visual effect and production, to physical training, and massage. TAP students went on a field trip November 15, 2013. The massages were very good. They went there for part of the day just to hang out and have fun because winter brake was coming up. The first song they played was “Berzerk” by Eminem. Students were able to skate for at least 30 minutes before they took a break. The food there was awesome and tasted so good. The funniest part of the trip is when Gerry got a huge inflatable hammer and started hitting Mr. Johnson with it. Students had a good time and enjoyed themselves. It was a good way to relax before the end of the year. At the end of the trip, it was nice to only have two more classes. Roller skating brought back memories of when I went there in 5th grade. The Roller Garden is a fun place to go and relax. Students enjoyed themselves while roller skating School’s Sometimes Fun By: Nasser El-Azamy On December 19th 2013 TAP students and teachers went on a field trip to the Roller Garden in St. Louis Park. There was music playing while students skated. It was great seeing students and teachers having fun. This trip was a reward for working hard. Students skated and had access to a deli that served food. It took some “… a reward for working hard.” Although this fun only lasted a day it was a day well worth it. Recycling at WHS By: Kevin Morris The environmental science class has been handling the recycling for all of Wayzata High School for the first two terms to help out the janitorial crew. With over 3,000 students, there is a lot of trash. The janitorial staff has given the students a chance to help out the school by taking the recycling from the class rooms on Tuesdays and Thursdays during second block. To do the recycling, all the groups get gloves so they don’t have to touch the bins with their bare hands. Sometimes the bins have stinky liquid in the bottom and nobody likes that so students change bags as needed. After collecting the recycling, students take it to the janitorial staff for compressed. This play was written and directed by a family and their friends, all of the Asian ethnicity. They started performing the play in October of 2013. This play is about people trying to survive during a zombie apocalypse and figuring out how to work with each other through their time of need. They hand feed them. The students also said they got to go above the tank which they enjoyed. The students not only looked at the sharks, they also walked around and looked at the primates, penguins, birds and turtles. also struggle to find food and shelter while fighting for their lives. The main character also has to take care of a little girl that was hiding and didn’t know where her parents were. The main character also deals with her best friend while they were fighting for their lives. The little girl might have been the best cast member in the play if not the best. What made it more amazing was the fact that she was only six years old. The main character did a marvelous job as well, she perfectly suited the character. Students learned that in order to survive in any situation you need perseverance and you need to make an effort to be as strong as possible, because if you face your adversities without confidence and perseverance you won’t get very far in life. American Hustle By: Rodney Moseti This is a crime drama film that portrays con artists in the 1970s. It stars Christian Bale (Irving), Amy Adams (Sydney), and Bradley Cooper (Richie). The movie is about how Irving, who is a con man, and his British girlfriend/partner (Sydney) work American Hustle wasn’t that interesting. Russell, was released December 20, 2013 and is a Crime, Drama, and Comedy that is rated R. Its setting is the late 70s or early 80s in New Jersey. American Hustle stars Christian Bale (Irving Rosenfeld), Bradley Cooper (Richie DiMaso), and Amy Adams (Sydney Prosser). Irving and Sydney (later given the name “Lady Edith Greensley”) set up a loan scam, and soon enough they get caught by Richie DiMaso (an FBI agent). Richie offers to re- lease them if they could help him make four additional arrests. Soon they all make a deal with the Mafia who requires a 10 million wire transfer. They came up with the quote “Everyone hustles to survive” which plays a huge role in the story. Written by Eric Singer and directed by David O, Russell it is rated R and it takes place in the late1970’s and early 80’s. Irving and Sydney are two con artists who set up a loan scam. They get away with it for a while. Soon they get caught by Richie Dimaso, an FBI agent. Sydney goes to jail but they have a plan to get her out. The plan is to catch four other con artists. I really enjoyed American Hustle and I would definitely recommend it to others to watch and I might even see it again myself. I liked the time period they chose to make it in and enjoyed the language choice. It helped to better understand certain things. This movie in my eyes was really easy to understand. The only problem was I didn’t like the plot. 3 stars. American Hustle By: Tina Gbollie American Hustle is about love, conspiracy, and deception. This was a mix up of drama, comedy, and mystery. It stars Christian Bale (Irving) as a con man, Bradley Cooper (Richie), Amy Adams (Sydney), and Jeremy Lawrence (Mayor Polito). The setting seems to be in the 70’s. Eric Singer and David O. Russell were the master minds (Directors) of this film and bringing it all together. In This film it starts out with Irving, Sydney, and Richie getting ready to set a big deal with the Mayor when something goes wrong. It went straight to a flash back to show how they (Irving and Sydney) got to the meeting. My overall reaction to American Hustle was that it was a great mix up. You might need to watch it twice to really grasp everything that’s happening. Grab a big bowl of popcorn cuddle with a loved one and watch this tale of drama, tears and lies. 3 stars Page 7 Tappity TAP News Movie Reviews Lone Survivor By: Devin Gregersen Lone Survivor stars Mark Wahlberg, Taylor Kitsch, and Ben Foster. It is an intense action war movie directed and written by Peter Berg. Lone Survivor is based on the novel written by Marcus Luttrell and Patrick Robinson. It’s a true story of Marcus Luttrell and his brothers in arms. A small group of navy SEALs are assigned a recon mission to photograph and kidnap a Taliban leader named Ahmad Shah. The mission was compromised when three goat hoarders stumble upon their location. After a long discussion about what they would do with them - kill them, leave them tied up, or let them go. Eventually they let them go and they tell the Taliban of the SEALs location. As a supporter of the military I loved this movie. Lone Survivor is a war movie based on true events. It’s not politically preachy. It just shows everyone in America how hard it is to be in the military. I also really liked to see that many Arabic citizens are sick of the Taliban and are willing to risk their lives for an American. It’s a great movie and I would defiantly see it again. 4 stars. Lone Survivor—R Lone Survivor By: Gerry Karpe Lone Survivor, directed by Peter Berg, is based on a true story about a SEAL team in Afghanistan. The cast includes Mark Wahlberg (Marcus), Taylor Kitsch (Michael), Emile Hirsch (Danny), Ben Foster (Matthew), and Eric Bana (Lt. Cmdr. Erik). This movie is a war action movie. Four Navy SEALs are on a mission to capture and kill an al-Qaeda member. They were in the mountains of Afghanistan when they were discovered by goat herders. Once they tried to get an airlift back to safety, they lost their radio then were ambushed by a TON of al-Qaeda members. The movie is very graphic. Based on a true story, the movie starts out with Marcus and his crew of three others Michael, Danny, and Matt. on a mission to take out an al-Qaeda operative in Afghanistan. When they got there they ran into some trouble and had to start fighting their way out. They were then stuck on a hill and they could only do so much to survive. Lone Survivor is a great story and it shows what military life is like and how much you have to give up to complete a task. I would recommend this movie to people that like war movies and like serious movies. I would defiantly go back and see it again. 4 stars Overall I didn’t expect it to be that good but it was breath taking. The quality of the film was amazing. I recommend anyone 16+ should go see this. 4 stars. Anna gets help from Kristoff and a humorous snowman named Olaf. Together, the team of three, ventures up a mountain to save Elsa and their kingdom from an irreversible winter. The humor in frozen is creative and will have you laughing. The animation was extraordinary and the story line kept me interested in seeing more. Students should have this information because some people will go see a movie based on who’s in it or who directed it. The second paragraph of a movie review should be devoted to the plot/story line. It is very important that the writ- er NOT disclose the movie’s ending. In the third paragraph, the writer informs the reader of their opinion of the movie. Topics may include the acting, visual effects, sound, etc. The Writer should relay their rating (we used 4 stars; 1 if you can’t believe they actually made this movie; 2 if you liked some portion(s) of the movie; 3 if you would recommend this to a friend and 4 if you’d recommend it to a friend and pay to see it again.
