Emeth Competitive Team
Emeth has competitive girls and boys gymnastics teams that are open to Emeth
students specifically by invitation each year.
Comet Girls Team
The Comet Girls team was born in
2003 and has grown to include over 70
girls in USA Gymnastics levels 2-10
and Xcel. Emeth girls team members
have qualified for state and regional
competitions numerous times.
Saturn Boys Team
Our Saturn Boys team came into being
in 2007 and has since grown to include
nearly 20 boys in USA Gymnastics
levels 4-10. Emeth boys team
members have qualified and competed
in national competitions.
We Want You
Emeth coaches and directors have been observing all the students
in our program for the last year and have noticed that your child both
enjoys gymnastics at Emeth and has potential to do well at a higher
commitment level! Because of what we see in your child, we are
inviting them to our team.
What is Team?
Joining Emeth’s competitive team means taking gymnastics and character
training to a new level. Team athletes practice multiple times per week, train for
levels and skills sanctioned by USA Gymnastics, and compete at meets near and
far against other clubs in our region.

Big Commitment - Big Benefits
Joining Team at Emeth is a big step in commitment, but there are big benefits for
our athletes! Team coaches focus on training character to a new level because of
the increased time and opportunity that added practices and competitions
provide. Our team families consistently tell us that their kids are learning life
character skills through gymnastics. We’d like to share just a few.

Motivation
Gymnastics is fun! Athletes love flying
through the air, moving their bodies in
amazing ways and the feelings of
accomplishment when they reach clear
set goals. We often find that we are able
to coach students to develop character
strength in perseverance, self discipline,
focus and commitment because they are
motivated by their love of gymnastics to
struggle forward when it gets tough. We
love seeing these qualities give them
success both in and outside the gym.
Confidence
Confidence is a consistent fruit of
athletes being a part of the Emeth Team.
While all Emeth programs work to help
students develop confidence by providing
a safe and encouraging environment in which students reach for clear set
standards and push through challenges, Team takes this to a new level.
Competing in front of judges and audiences, with the support of teammates
develops confidence into athletes. Coaches use opportunities to build athletes up
both when they stick and when they fall.

Focus
One of the things we like most about
gymnastics is that it focuses on the
individual. Athletes compete first against
themselves, straining to reach their
potential. There are no ‘bench warmers’
or less important positions in the field.
Coaches and judges focus on each
athlete’s skills and work to help them
grow. In the words of respected coach
John Wooden, we want to train athletes
to view success as,
“peace of mind, attained only through
self-satisfaction and knowing you made
the effort to do the best that you are
capable.”
We believe that this definition of success
is one that every person can strive for
and achieve, and that it is a much more
meaningful success that simply winning
over another person.
“Gabe has learned to be brave, trusting in
coaches and taking in the encouragement he
gets from both them and his teammates to
fulfill all his goals as a gymnast. He continues
to grow his skills and independence, and
practices being courageous both inside and
outside the gym.”
- Mike & Jaime Perz
Community
Our goal is for Emeth to be a loving and
supportive atmosphere for all our
families. We strive to make it that by
careful leadership, focus, honesty, clear
communication and more. Joining Team gives your family an opportunity to get to
know other Emeth families better, including being a part of the Emeth Booster
Club. Emeth families work together to support their athletes and often form
meaningful supportive relationships. Athletes regularly become very close with
their teammates as they encourage each other to pursue individual goals. The
Emeth team is a great place to belong!

Priorities
“There is peace and power in a
correctly prioritized life” as Chip
Ingram says. We coach athletes to
think well and value not only
gymnastics, but relationships,
character, education and positive life
influences. Athletes learn disciplined
time management skills not only in the
gym, but applied to school,
homework, and more.
Experience
Being on the Emeth Team is an
experience kids will enjoy and
remember. Team members form
bonds with their teammates and
coaches, enjoying practices,
competitions, travel time, staying overnight in hotels for far away meets, and
more. It is a great social experience. Many athletes think of Emeth as a second
home.

Commitment and Investment
Parent Name,
CHILDNAME has been invited to join the Emeth GIRLS Team for the 2014-2015
Season.
Joining the Emeth Team is a big commitment with big benefits.
It’s a way to invest in your child’s future. We strive to help each athlete grow
in true character, excellence in gymnastics, life experience, and relationships. We
are proud to watch students that join Emeth team become strong positive role
models.
“
Jessica Coleman
When Jessica first started at Emeth, she was so shy
and very clingy,” says Jessica’s father Jeff. “Her
confidence has grown so much since she’s been with the
Girls’ Team. I feel that it has grown because of all of the
coaches building her up and encouraging her. Kids aren’t
a number at Emeth, and the coaches aren’t only interested
in athletics. They are also encouraged and complimented
on their character.
There have been so many pivotal moments at Emeth
where we have seen growth in Jessica’s confidence. I
remember the first time Jessica had the confidence to go
into Open Gym alone. It was a big deal at the time. Now
she has the confidence to travel and compete. Our
experience with Emeth has been great. I can’t say enough
about how good this has been for Jessica and how
positive the influence of the coaches has been on her life.
It’s not just confidence in the gym. We see it everywhere,
in every aspect of her life. We are just thrilled.

Training Seasons
This year Emeth is introducing slight adjustments to our scheduling. Our Emeth
year is organized in correspondence with local school district calendars. There
are three parts of our year
2014-2015 Year:
✴
Summer training season - June 9th - August 15th, 2014
✴
Fall training season - August 25th - December, 2014
✴
Spring training season - January - June 6th, 2015
Each training season will have some adjustments to practice schedules for many
levels. (ex: Summer has no Saturday practices and includes morning practices for
some levels)
Team directors work carefully to provide your athletes the best training
arrangements at all times.
Practices
Practices are the baseline of all growth. While we are in full support of family
vacations and religious commitments, it is important that practices are a priority
in your schedule if you are going to be on the Emeth Team. Parents and athletes
are responsible to notify their team director prior to absences.
Please review the tentative Summer and Fall 2014 schedules below to get a feel
for what your time commitment will be.

Parent, can I share a story with you?
David Matchinga: Motivation
“
David was always one to dabble in sports and
hobbies. He would enjoy them, but never found
anything that inspired him to go above and beyond.
”
Gymnastics changed all that for David. He can’t get
enough! On days he doesn’t have practice, he is
working out in his room on to get stronger. We have
to remind him that the armchair isn’t a set of parallel
bars. We’ve also seen a change in David’s academic
motivation since he’s joined the boys’ team. David
has always done ok in school, but he was fine with
being an average student. He would do what he had
to do to get by, just enough for teachers and parents
to stay off his back. Now he takes pride in his work
and does well in school. He is motivated to stay
organized and give his best effort in school because
he understands that is required of him to continue
with gymnastics.”
- Mandi Matchinga
“
Kylie Brown: Focus
When Kylie first started gymnastics at Emeth, she
was extremely shy. She was scared to speak and to
look her coaches in the eyes,
”
She has grown up so much, and her maturity is a result
of how the coaches interact with the kids on team. Kylie
looks at adults in the eye now. She’s a responsible
student-athlete. Gymnastics has really helped Kylie
focus on the things that are important to her. She can
multi-task and divide her focus and effort effectively.

Gymnastics has taught Kylie how to give everything its appropriate attention
so that nothing suffers, and she can be successful in all areas of her life.”
- Katie Brown
Kayla Benjamin: Focus
“
Gymnastics has helped Kayla prioritize
her time with family, friends, and school,
”
says Kayla’s mother Marijana. “She is aware
that she has to use her time wisely. She sets
mini-goals to complete part of her homework
before taking a break for a drink or a snack.
These little things are the result of setting
goals and completing routines and skill
progressions in gymnastics. Kayla’s time
with her family and friends is also important.
She makes sure that she attends family
functions and hangs out with her friends,
even if for a little while. Gymnastics has
influenced every part of Kayla’s life in positive
ways. It has made her focused and
determined and given her a persevering
attitude not only in the sport but in all the
priorities in her life.”
- Marijana Benjamin
“
Josh Dingman: Experience
Joshua is surrounded by excellent role
models at Emeth,
”
says father and Emeth coach, Mike Dingman.
“The older boys set a great example for how
you should behave and work. Gymnastics has
given my son experience in determination,
obedience, endurance and humility. He is also
learning to set goals. Coaches Judah and Mike
DeCavitch are great motivators. They help the
boys set goals as well as plans to reach those
goals.”

Emeth Booster Club
The Emeth Booster Club is a stand alone organization made up of Emeth Team
Member families. It’s primary purpose is to help families raise funds to offset
some of their Team expenses.
Each year Emeth hosts two girls and one or two boys competitions* at our facility
that other club’s teams are invited to. The Emeth Booster club works with Emeth
directors to organize and run the meets. Income is generated through entry fees,
admission, and various sales. Booster club members signup to work a session(s)
for varying jobs at each meet and earn credits for each job. Total net profits from
each event are divided by total credits. Families may then use the dollars earned
to pay for any Emeth expense they choose by requesting the funds at the time of
a purchase.
Example (2013 December Snowflake Meet)
★ Net profit from meet: $11,200
★ Number of credits worked (different jobs before and at the meet): 228
★ Value of each credit: $49 (net profit divided total)
Example jobs:
★ Admissions worker- Session 1 of meet (3-4 hours)
★ Concessions assistant- Session 3 of meet (3-4 hours)
★ Setup - 6:30pm Friday night before meet.
★ Parking- Session 5 (3-4 hours)
Example Earnings:
★ Worked above 4 jobs(for a single credit each)
★ 4 credits x $49 = $196
★ $196 is held in the Booster Club bank account available for you to pay for
your athlete’s Emeth expenses.
*Boys competitions are much smaller events than the two girls meets.
