You can also add 1 tbsp or so of hot oil (that you are heating for deep frying) to the dough. The final consistency should not be too tight (dry) or too soft(wet). 4. Knead it well until smooth. The dough should not be sticky. 5. Make small balls out of it. These will depend on how big a fryer you have, usually about 6 inch in diameter. 6. Roll it out into small circles with thin-medium thickness. Don't make it too thin else it will come out crispy. 7. Repeat for all dough. Alternatively heat oil for deep frying. 8. Now drop the puri into the oil. 9. While the puri is slowly coming to the surface, make sure to keep ladling in the hot oil on the surface. 10. Turn the puri so that it gets evenly reddish brown or golden yellow. 11. Place it on paper towel to drain off any oil. (Source: http://chefinyou.com/2010/12/poori/ ) If you’re unable to make puris, don’t sweat it! The Lord of Premanand and giver of happiness, He increases the respect of His followers. 14 Reading one prasang a day will help us understand the deeper Technology Tip meaning behind each stanza. Below are 6 prasangs, one for each stanza, that will help us connect reality to the beautiful lyrics of “Aksharna Vasi Vahlo”. Aksharnã vãsi vahlo ãvyã avani par, Nav khand dharti mã Swami chhatarãyã chãle Rãj… The dear resident of Akshardham came onto this earth. Maharaj walks openly through the nine parts of the world. On the divine day of Monday, 2 April 1781 in the village of Chhapaiya, Ghanshyam Maharaj blessed this Earth. People gathered around the house of Dharmadev and Bhaktimata to celebrate the birth of Ghanshyam Maharaj. Not only did several villagers come to see the divine child but several animals, birds came to celebrate His birth as well! Brahmins recited sacred mantras, and the divine child’s family gave others ornaments and clothes. From the sky, Gods showered flowers and chandan which added to the joyous environment. Today was an auspicious day which sparked the beginning of a bright future! After all, Supreme God , Purna Purushottam Narayan had come on Earth in human form. Avani par ãvi vahãle Satsang sthãpyo, Hari jano ne kol kalyãn no ãpyo Rãj… He came on this earth and established satsang, thus promising salvation to His devotees. On the way to Ghela river, a Kanbi farmer shouldered Shriji Maharaj, who was accompanied by half a dozen sadhus. The farmer did not care to look up and see who it was that he just brushed his shoulder against. Mulji Brahmachari stopped the farmer and said to the farmer, “Can’t you see? Are you blind? You collided with our God?” The farmer, with anger, said, “Maybe I am blind, but is your God also blind that he did not see me? During Ramavtar and Krishnavtar we were isolated (by the caste). The monkeys and shepards were liberated but we were forgotten.” Thereafter, Maharaj emphasized that this time, nobody shall be left behind - he wanted to liberate everyone. As a result, the Kanbi, Koli, Dhed etc.. (various castes) were uplifted. Moreover, the English officials were also given the gift of satsang and guided to the path of liberation. A while later, Maharaj asked Mulji Sheth whichnumber he could count up to. He told Maharaj that he could count upto figures with 17 zeros. Just then, Shriji Maharaj said “We want to liberate an infinte number of people.” Shriji Maharaj did not have a specific number of people that he would grantmoksh to; he wanted to grant moksh to everyone! From this prasang, we can see that Shriji Maharaj truly wished to grant everyone liberation regardless of their physical identity through the establishment of satsang. 15 Pãnche vartmãn pãle bãio ne bhãio, Harijan sangathe kidhi sãchi sagãio Rãj… All of His devotees, male and female, observe the panch vartman. Because of this, He has made a true relationship with His devotees. In the Vachanamrut, Shriji Maharaj mentioned Mulji Brahmachari to be one of the staunchest devotees of the time. Mulji Brahmachari’s father was a priest that performed Vedic rituals and Mulji Brahmachari assisted his father with work as well! One of their clients thought that Mulji Brahmachari must be the ideal person to escort their daughter from her in laws’ house as she cannot travel such a far distance by herself. Mulji Brahmachari was one that followed the 5 vartmans wherever and whenever. After discussing the decision with all the familes, Mulji Brahmachari was given the responsibility to escort the girl from her in laws’ house. They soon reached a small house where they stopped to sleep and re-energize themselves for the next day. The girl had a strong urge to stay with Mulji Brahmachari twice in the middle of the night. The first time, he calmed her down and she soon returned to her room. The second time, he calmly explained his interest in celibacy and the importance of worshipping God. From this prasang we can see that Mulji Brahmachari, who is one of the many staunch devotees, valued Shriji Maharaj’s niyams and agna at all times regardless of the difficult situations that they were in. Bãio dekhine bhãio chheterã chãle, Padi vastu koini hãthe nav jãle Rãj His devotees are such that at the sight of ladies, gents walk at a distance. They don’t touch other people’s possessions. A very famous prasang of Sagram Vaghri strongly supports this stanza and shows how well haribhakto follow their niyam dharma. During the famine of 1813, Sagram Vaghri and his wife went to seek Muktanand Swami’s advice. During their travel to Muktanand Swami’s residence, Sagram Vaghri saw a shiny ornament on the ground. However it didn’t belong to them, and thus, he did not pick it up as instructed by Maharaj. Sagram Vaghri soon thought that his wife might pick it up as they were poor and in need of money for food, so he quickly covered it with some dust. His wife caught up with him and asked what he covered. When he told her, she said, “You have simply covered dust with dust.” They had followed a very big agna that Maharaj has given to us: never take others’ belongings or what is not ours. Sagram Vaghri was such a staunch devotee that he would fast if he had touch any woman other than his wife - such was the maryada that he followed! 16 Devnã Dev vahãlo Dhãm nã Dhãmi, Pragat Prabhunu nãm Sahajanand Swami Rãj… The God of the gods, the Lord of the divine abode, the name of the manifest Lord is Sahajanand Swami. When Atmanand Swami was 116 years old, Gunatitanand Swami asked him why Maharaj still had not taken Atmanand Swami to Akshardham. Puzzled, Atmanand Swami said that the exact same thought had been wandering in his head as well! Gunatitanand Swami, being Akshar, knew exactly why Atmanand Swami did not go to Akshardham yet - he had yet to understand Maharaj’s sarvoparipanu, that he was above all Gods! Gunatitanand Swami further explained that Bhagwan Swaminarayan was not an avatar; he was the God of all Gods. Thereafter, Atmanand Swami became joyous and additionally, realized that Gunatitanand Swami was not a simple sadhu but ,rather Akshar, Maharaj’s eternal companion. Throughout his entire life, Atmanand Swami followed all of Shriji Maharaj’s agnas however, the only thing missing was the understanding of Maharaj being supreme. It is due to the fact that he developed the gnan of Maharaj’s sarvoparipanu that he was able to go to Akshardham! From this prasang, we can learn that it is Shriji Maharaj whom we need to understand as the Supreme Lord of Akshardham. Without this, everything else becomes meaningless. Premãnandnã Swami ãnandkãri, Potãnã janni vãle lãj vadhãri Rãj... The Lord of Premanand and giver of happiness, He increases the respect of His followers. Ever since Premanand Swami was young, he had deep affection towards Maharaj. When he was young, he went to sleep on the steps of Unnad Khachar’s darbar. His father looked all around for him and found him speaking with Maharaj. Soon, his father said that they must go home now. The young boy, who was going to be known as Premanand Swami in the future, refused to move. At last, Shriji Maharaj asked the young boy himself, about his decision. The boy simply said, “I want to stay with You”. Premanand Swami travelled with Maharaj ever since he was a child and thereon built affection for Maharaj by the second.
