Chicago “The Second City” An IB Perspective Chicago stands at the beginning of the twenty-first century as it did on the edge of a new frontier. It has entered the league of global cities… It stands in an envious place next to the largest fresh water lakes in the world and close to the Mississippi River… with its enormous intellectual and financial resources, it is trying on a new skin in the new century. - Dominic Pacyga, Chicago: A Biography Exceptional Students Embrace an Exceptional City Where Frank Sinatra sang that Chicago was his kind of town, with his kind of people. This educational tour offers IB students the opportunity to experience the culture and history that makes it only second to New York in population, but first in the hearts of many, and the city that President Obama calls home. Students will be exposed to areas of knowledge with art and architec- ture tours, trips to science and history museums, theat- rical performances, local eateries, and a community CAS activity. Students will be engaged in a variety of activities while having fun! The itinerary and Student-Teacher Resource Guide were developed by Faye Brenner, former IB coordinator for Fairfax County Schools in Fairfax, VA. She took on the role as advanced academic program specialist and supervised the IB and AP programs in the district’s 25 high schools. She also serves as an IB site visitor. Experience Chicago through theater performances, museum tours, dining experiences and historical walking tours. Participate in a community CAS activity that will accomplish at least four learning outcomes. Engage in daily discussions to reflect on daily events; a Student-Teacher resource guide is provided. Produce a final reflection blog or essay to detail the experience. www.greenlightgrouptours.com | Toll Free 800.490.1820 [email protected] Chicago ”The Second City” An IB Perspective Day Three -Breakfast - Participate in a Community Service project (CAS) - Lunch and bowling at the trendy 10Pin Bowling Lounge - Visit Lincoln Park and see the Abraham Lincoln: the Man statue - Explore Chicago history at the Chicago History Day One - Arrive in Chicago Museum - Meet your Green Light Group Tours manager - Dinner at Ed Debevic’s, a diner with attitude - Lunch at the Navy Pier on the shoreline of - Laugh at a comedy improv show, see a Broadway Lake Michigan show or enjoy a Symphony Concert - Take an architectural cruise down the Chicago River - Evening discussion recounting day’s activity - Check into hotel - Experience world famous Chicago style pizza at Giordano’s Day Four - Go up the Skydeck for a magnificent aerial view of - Breakfast Chicago at night - Explore the Museum of Science and Industry - Evening discussion: Introduction to Chicago - Lunch in the Museum of Science and Industry - Travel the world at the Shedd Aquarium in the Waters of the World Exhibit - Return home Day Two -Breakfast - Take a walking tour of public art - Visit Millennium Park - Lunch at the House of Blues - View some of the highlights at the Art Institute of Chicago - Shopping on the Magnificent Mile - See the Water Tower and enjoy dinner at Foodlife on Michigan Avenue - Enjoy the Blue Man Group - Evening discussion: Fine Arts and Performing Arts Exceptional Students Embrace an Exceptional City Where www.greenlightgrouptours.com | Toll Free 800.490.1820 | [email protected] Chicago ”The Second City” An IB Perspective Ground Package Includes - Dedicated tour manager - Student-Teacher IB Resource Guide for daily discussions - Three nights lodging in interior corridor hotel - Walking tour of public art The Skydeck - Millennium Park - Art Institute of Chicago Magnificent Mile - Blue Man Group - Community Service project - Bowling at the 10Pin Bowling Lounge - Lincoln Park and Abraham Lincoln: the Man statue - Chicago History Museum - Water Tower - An evening comedy or Brodaway show, or Symphony Concert - Museum of Science and Industry - Shedd Aquarium - Evening discussions - Breakfast daily at hotel - Lunch at the Navy Pier -Lunch at the House of Blues - Architectural boat tour - - - Lunch at 10Pin Bowling Lounge - Lunch in the Museum of Science and Industry - Dinner at Giordano’s - Dinner at Foodlife on Michigan Avenue - Dinner at Ed Debevic’s Diner - Two million dollar liability insurance policy - Travelers Insurance to cover Ground ricing: Package P $590 Quad Occupancy $618 Triple Occupancy $674 Double Occupancy medical expenses, baggage delay and trip interruption - Name badges with emergency phone numbers - Optional individual billing - Nighttime hotel security, so you can sleep tion Transporta Estimate: - One complimentary director’s package at double occupancy per 25 paid packages Call us for a quote with transportation from your city *Prices are based on a minimum of 50 paying passengers www.greenlightgrouptours.com | Toll Free 800.490.1820 | [email protected]
