HVC | NCA Series 100 Fire Dampers
NCA manufacturing product catalogue You may never need a 6 hour rated fire damper but it is comforting to know that SERIES 100 curtain fire dampers have been independently certified for 6 hour integrity as standard (as have most of the fire dampers in our range). There is no premium to pay for this higher integrity and exceptional quality, we simply offer this as a value added benefit. NCA fire dampers are probably the best value for money in the field of fire protection. There is no need to select different models for vertical or horizontal application since powerful stainless steel torsion springs are fitted to all SERIES 100 dampers which guarantees closure in any plane. However, if it is high pressure system you are fitting the NCA SERIES 100 is still the solution as it has also been tested to BS1366-2 (ISO10294-1) for the maximum 4 hours at 300 Pascal’s. This gives the best of both worlds and the maximum protection available from a curtain damper. A complete range of options and accessories allows optimum configuration for any application. Tested to the latest BS1366-2 (ISO10294-1) for the maximum 4 hours at 300 Pascal’s by the Building Research Establishment. Endurance Tested to BS476-20 by Warrington F.R.C. for 6 hours with guaranteed closure in both vertical and horizontal plane. Series 100 Fire Damper, Model A, shown with optional accessories: resettable link mechanism, stainless steel jamb seals, pull rings and visual position indicator. A wide range of options and accessories are available to meet specific applications. Fire Dampers - Series 100 Series 100 Fire Dampers Casing manufactured in accordance with DW144 requirements. Precise roll formed construction, with fully interlocking blades. Choice of galvanised or stainless steel casing and blades. Stainless steel springs as standard. Resettable link mechanisms for periodic testing. Blade status indicators (either mechanical or micro switches). All series 100 fire dampers can be supplied with HEVAC/HVCA installation frames fitted by NCA. In accordance with HEVAC 6/5/83 rev 1 2002. To assist this test procedure, we offer our resettable link system which allows the damper to be released and reset with the minimum of time and effort. Anti-creep links available. Visual Position Indicators: (Series 100 Only) Our visual indicator (VPI) provides for local indication of the damper blade position viewed from outside the duct. This can be of great assistance when inspecting the duct system during balancing or periodic testing for fire safety. Micro Switches: Available for remote blade position indication (either normally open or closed circuits). Electro Magnets: Available for systems which require the dampers to close upon de-energising the power supply (24V AC, 110V AC, 230V AC). (Minimum height of damper when square 200mm) (Minimum height of damper when circular 250mm) Solenoids: May be provided on dampers to release the damper upon a signal from a detector or central control panel. (24V DC, 24V AC or 240V AC available). (Minimum height of damper 200mm). Fusible Links: Available in various temperature ratings. Standard rated at 72°C. 8 nca manufacturing sales & enquiries - telephone: 00 44 (0)1384 376555 eMail: [email protected] NCA Fire Dampers (series 100 and 200) have been tested to British Standard 1366-2:1999 and International Standard ISO 10294-1:1996(E) by BRE, Garston, Watford, Test Report No’s. 232943 and CC235890. This testing was successful in excess of the maximum required 240 minutes. Additionally, all NCA Fire Dampers (series 100, 200 and 300) have been tested by Warrington Fire Research Centre to British Standard 476 Part 20 criterion 7.1.1 for a full 6 hours. Revalidation Report No. WFRC151309. Test construction after 240 minutes. Fire Dampers - Performance Fire Tests Face of Damper Curtain after 240 minutes Suitably withstanding 300 Pascal's. An efficient design should minimize this effect without compromising its function. It is therefore important for designers of air handling systems, to evaluate such losses to ensure allowance for this resistance factor, when sizing their duct systems. The most important factor influencing pressure loss across fire dampers, is the effective free area. The graph below indicates the losses at different air velocities imposed by a typically sized damper (aspect ratio 1:1) of 600mm x 600mm. Corrosion NCA fire dampers (series 100, 200 and 300) have successfully passed salt spray corrosion tests. The dampers were installed in a test chamber and exposed to a 20% salt spray (sodium chloride and distilled water) for 120 hours. At the conclusion of this exposure period, the dampers were removed from the test chamber and the fusible links were subjected to flame. The dampers then successfully closed and latched securely. Reliability Tests: Closing, Spring Cycling and Dust Loading. In addition to the tests described above, NCA dampers have also undergone a series of reliability tests. All models have been successfully cycled 250 times without failure. The stainless steel negator springs have been cycled 5000 times without failure. The dampers have also been evaluated after dust loading. This test is designed to simulate the build up of dust and other airborne particles which occur in duct systems over long periods of time. 10 These particles may inhibit the positive closure of fire dampers. Sample dampers were exposed to a circulating grain dust air mixture. The particles are allowed to accumulate on the various parts of the dampers after which the dampers were removed from the chamber and successfully tested for closing and latching. nca manufacturing sales & enquiries - telephone: 00 44 (0)1384 376555 eMail: [email protected] The purpose of an installation frame is to ensure the integrity of the fire partition opening by assisting the duct and its associated damper to resist the severe distortion which would occur in a fire. At the same time it completely bonds the fire damper to the surrounding masonry so that no break in the integrity of the opening occurs around the periphery of the fixing. HVCA / HEVAC installation frames are required on installations subject to HVCA ductwork specification DW 142. The design and construction of the frame is generic and manufacturers, including ourselves must conform to a specific design, Spec. HVC 6/5/83 which covers dimensions and materials. Fire Dampers HEVAC / HVCA Installation Frame Additional Note (A) In brickwork or blockwork walls and floors the tabs shall be bent out solidly and built into the mortar joints between the brickwork or blockwork. (B) In the case of reinforced or concentrate walls and floors, the tabs shall be bent out and tied with wire to the Adjacent frame assemblies must be separated by builders’ work a minimum thickness of 225mm (between installation frame upstand flanges) unless approval has been previously obtained from the authority. reinforcing bars which will be deliberately left protruding into the opening and then the gap between the installation frame and the builders’ work backfilled with mortar or concrete on both sides of the flange. The frame shall be installed centrally in the thickness of a brickwork or concrete surrounding wall or floor. In the case of thick walls or floors, the centre line of the frame must be at least 50mm away from the nearest face of the wall or floor in which the assembly is mounted. nca manufacturing sales & enquiries - telephone: 00 44 (0)1384 376555 eMail: [email protected] 11 Damper with Installation Frame 58 25 25 58 Model A 25 25 25 25 50 75 100 125 84 109 134 159 Model B 58 25 45 58 84 109 134 159 Model C 45 58 Fire Dampers - Dimensional Data: Series 100 Standard Fire Dampers Model D 58 84 109 134 159 45 58 45 All dimensions in mm 12 nca manufacturing sales & enquiries - telephone: 00 44 (0)1384 376555 eMail: [email protected] Where multiple arrangements of fire dampers are required, the installer should submit his proposed arrangement to the local building authority for acceptance. Where accepted, NCA will provide (optional accessory) U-channel sections of 1.2mm galvanised steel for on-site installation (by others). These channel sections may be used for multiple assemblies of spigoted dampers as shown (forming 50mm x 50mm centre mullions). Vertical Vertical arrangements of series 100 fire dampers may be assembled as shown. The maximum duct size recommended is 3850mm x 3300mm.
