Museum of Modern Art

Museum of Modern Art was opened in Baku in 2009. It was created following the initiative of
the First Lady of Azerbaijan, Mehriban Aliyeva, and supported by Heydar Aliyev Foundation.
The space is designed in a very special way: white colour, modern architecture, sloping walls
and halls with no corners create an impression of movement and eternity; all the details of
the interior are meant to be parts of the "moving" structure. The main concept of the museum
is the preservation of the Azerbaijani school of painting’s integrity. This is why the museum is
full of local artists’ works such as Rasim Babayev, Ashraf Murad, Gennady Brizhatyuk, Fazil
Najafov, Mammad Mustafayev, Aga Huseynov Ali Ibadullayev, Mir Nadir Zeynalov, Fuad
fat, Farhad Khalilov, Darwin Velibekov, Eldar Mammadov, Mikail Abdurakhmanov, Museib
Amirov, Mahmud Rustamov, Huseyn Hagverdi, Eliyar Alimirzaev, Rashad Babayev and

Altay Sadiq-zade. Museum of Modern Art not only gives guests the opportunity to experience
the sense of Azerbaijani paintings and key works by masters of the avant-garde style in the
world of art, but also to enjoy the unique building of the museum designed by famous Israel
architect Zaha Hadid. Today this building is considered to be one of the most unforgettable
architectural masterpieces of Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijan Carpet Museum

Carpet Museum was founded in Baku in 1967 and is the first carpet museum in the world.
Today the museum collection includes more than 10,000 items. The museum has the largest
collection of Azerbaijani carpets made in different techniques using wide range of materials
for weaving. In addition to the carpets here you can also see a large collection of pottery,
metal and bronze jewelry, gold and silver jewelry, items of national dress and embroidery,
as well as some incredible pieces of modern art. Azerbaijani carpets have been known and
recognised all over the world since ancient times. In the museum you can find carpets from
different regions of the country (Gazakh, Guba, Shirvan, Ganja, Tabriz, Sheki), different
schools and historical periods. The oldest item in the museum is considered to be a fragment
of carpet of the Tabriz school "Ovchulug," made in the 17th century.
In addition to rich cultural heritage and an impressive number of historical monuments Baku is known
for its national cuisine and an incredible range of international cuisine represented – both are are highly
recommended for visiting:
Nakhichevan

Located on the Avenue of Parliament, restaurant Nakhichevan is one of the best places in
the city to explore the cuisine of Azerbaijan. As a starter you can order puff pastry with lamb,
rice and dill or traditional rolls of eggplant. Choosing the main dish, you consider govurma
beef and lamb, braised veal with spices in its own juice, several kinds of plov (rice dish)
and, of course, chygyrtmu made of beans, spinach or chicken. Meat lovers will enjoy a large
selection of kebabs, and for dessert, traditional Azerbaijani deserts - schyakyarburu, baklava
and jam.
Chinar
•
Chinar restaurant has been one of the most romantic places for get togethers and dates
in Baku for decades and presents a very sophisticated gourmet cuisine and an elegant
interior. The restaurant has several zones - the bamboo bar and teahouse, Pan-Asian zone,
a dragon zone and VIP zone for receptions and events. The restaurant’s chef combines the
best specialties of Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand, which are prepared only with the use
of fresh and natural ingredients. In addition to the traditional Asian starters and main dishes,
special attention is paid to desserts - hot and cold Asian desserts is a very special part of the
menu.
Tosca

A great place for lunch in the centre of Baku is Italian trattoria Tosca. The restaurant's
interior was inspired by the olive groves and gardens and the Tuscan coast, and the main
zones of the restaurant are traditional Italian gelateria, pasticceria, espresso bar, wine bar
and open kitchen so that every guest can have a look at the process of preparation of their

dishes. During the summer there is a large terrace where dishes are cooked in a wooden
oven. Next to the terrace you can find limoncello bar and an ice cream stand. Apart from
the traditional pizza and pasta, Tosca’s menu includes large selection of antipasti, delicious

Maya Mexican Restaurant & Bar
