With a little know-how and practice you will be able to make a dazzling variety of professional looking beads using a number of different techniques. You can then make up your own bracelet to suit any outfit or occasion. There are two bracelets included in the kit, so why not make one for yourself and one for a friend! It’s important to start at the beginning of this booklet and work through each project in turn as each new project builds a deeper understanding of the skills required. You can then use your creative talents to make your very own designs! 4 Here are some simple hints and tips to help you get the best results. Conditioning the Clay The polymer clay needs conditioning before you use it. This remixes the colour and makes the clay soft and easy to work with. It also removes any air bubbles, which can leave an uneven surface after baking. To condition the clay, cut off a small piece and knead it in your hands until soft. The warmth of your hands will soften the clay. The clay will need re-conditioning if left unused for several days. Changing Colours To make a brand new colour of clay, roll 2-3 colours together into a long log. Fold over, twist and roll again. Keep doing this until the colours have completely blended together. Tip: Contrasting light and dark colours will achieve a more noticeable change in colour. To create a marbled effect, take two long pieces of clay in different colours. Fold over, twist and roll again. Keep doing this until the clay has taken on a stripy, marbled effect. Design& Make Deluxe Charm Bracelets Roll up all your scraps of unused clay into a ball and put it to one side, you will be able to use it in other designs. Baking the Clay Always ask an adult to help you when using the oven. Always use oven gloves when putting items in or taking them out of a hot oven. Pre-heat oven to 130°C (gas mark 1/2). Place the clay on an oven tray lined with baking paper. Bake the clay for 15 minutes in the oven. Remove clay from the oven with an oven glove and let it cool for about 5 to 10 minutes before handling. 5 How to Make Your First Bead 4.
