DRIVERS OF INTEREST
Greg Murphy
Ford Escort MK1
The four time Bathurst 1000 winner will team up with co-driver Jim
Hewlett in a Historic Class car with the Stadium Motorsport Team.
Having never competed in a gravel rally, Murphy will be relying
on some good advice from the experienced team. “I don’t know a
lot (about rallying) so I don’t have any preconceived ideas,” said
Murphy. “I need to work it out and try and learn as I go. I’m keen
to get started and see what it’s all about” “I’ve got no expectations
other than to have some fun and enjoy myself. The only goal will be
to get to the finish.” His only previous experience on gravel was the
2004 Silverstone Race to The Sky held in the Cardrona Valley,
Central Otago, where he raced a purpose built Holden Commodore
Ute.“I loved every minute of it,” commented Murphy. “It was an
absolute thrill.”

Rallying can be
dangerous and
spectators are advised
that they watch at
their own risk.
Study these diagrams.
The orange areas indicate
PROHIBITED AREAS where it
could be dangerous to stand.
Do not go there as this could
cause delays or the cancellation
of stages.
Matt Summerfield
Subaru Impreza WRX STi
Rangiora’s best hope for 2015. Campaigning a new car this year
and currently 3rd in the NZ Rally Championship, Matt is a real
chance for the podium today.
Andrew Hawkeswood
Mazda 2
His new Mazda 2 is a part of the new breed of cars entering the
NZRC. A 4WD turbo built on a spaceframe chassis – the car and
driver have what it takes to win today.
Marcus van Klink
Mazda RX7
Klinky’s Mazda RX7 is rallied just as it would have been by the
Mazda factory in the mid 1980’s. Rear Wheel Drive with lots of
power and a wild man at the wheel.
Ben Hunt
Subaru STi
Ben Hunt came close to winning the NZRC last year in his first
season in 4WD. Fast and reliable, Hunt placed second here last
year and is a definite chance for a win today.
Graham Wilson
Toyota Starlet
You don’t have to have a million dollar team to take part, or be a
young bloke. Autosport Club president Graham Wilson has been
Rallying nearly 40 years - a good bet to win the 1300 cc Class today.
Emma Gilmour
Suzuki Swift Maxi 1600
Currently the fastest lady in NZ Rallying, Emma is now in her 3rd
season with her radical Suzuki Swift 4WD turbo. Like Hawkeswood’s
Mazda 2, this is a new generation car built just for Rallying.

Garry Cowan
Toyota Corolla AE 86
Built by Toyota NZ and rallied by Paul Adams in the mid 1980’s.
This car made Ross Meeking famous with some spectacular drives at
Rally NZ. A true classic which Garry uses to full effect.
DO...
GET AMONGST THE RALLY ACTION!
The Lone Star Rally of Canterbury brings the Brian Green Property Group NZ Rally Championship - to Christchurch and North Canterbury.
With backing from the Lone Star Café and Bar Group, including Joe’s Garage, the rally promises top level action as New Zealand’s best Rally Teams tackle the first two Ashely Forest stages in the
dark on Saturday night, then back in the forest on Sunday.
•
•
•
•
The Rally starts at the Lone Star, Manchester Street on Saturday 30 May at 5.00pm. All cars will be on display at the Lone Star from 3.30pm, and you’ll be able to meet the drivers during a
poster signing session from 4.15pm. The first car leaves the Lone Star at 5.00pm. The Rally finishes at the Lone Star at 4.45pm on Sunday 31 May, providing another chance for you to get up
close to the cars and drivers.
DON’T...
A further point of interest will be watching the cars being serviced in Rangiora in the Council Car Park behind the Fire Station and in the Library Car Park. Rally cars will come in for service there
on Saturday night from 7.25pm and again on Sunday from 9.55am.
There will be over 50 teams taking on the challenge of the 2015 Lone Star Rally of Canterbury and you can be sure there will be action throughout the field. This spectator map will help you find
the best place to watch the live action. It is 100% free of charge for you to get amongst the action at the 2015 Lone Star Rally of Canterbury.
BRITA SAFETY
www.britasafety.com
Always obey a marshall
Stand in a naturally protected area
Please leave your dog at home
Understand that a car can crash in a very
unpredictable way and place
• Assume that you can hear a car coming
• Stand on the outside of a corner
• Assume you can make a hasty escape from a car
crashing - there’s never time!
• Assume that rally cars will arrive at even intervals
