Grosse Pointe Crisis Club Newsletter Celebrating 57 Years of Helping Those in Need Volume 47 July/August 2013 Number 4 “Kotcher’s Kapers” Golf Outing Fundraiser Monday, August 5, 2013 Sycamore Hills Golf Club From The President As we begin to enjoy our beautiful Michigan summer months ahead, I would like to share some encouraging statistics for your enjoyment. Like all organizations, we are not immune to fluctuating membership levels that correspond with the state of the economy. I am happy to report that since 2010, after a decline in membership, we have been consistently increasing our ranks. In the year 2010 we started off with 176 members and reduced to 172 in 2011. We added two members in the beginning of 2012 and then, by October of 2012, we had a total of 186 members. Since the beginning of 2013 we added three more and today stand at 189 members. These are positive and encouraging signs that our Club is healthy and growing, and as our membership increases it allows us to better serve those that happen to find themselves in a crisis situation. I would like to thank everyone for their hard work Continued on Page 6 The Annual “Kotcher’s Kapers” Golf Outing Fundraiser is less than a month away! Please take a moment to register your foursome or individual players with Ted Eikhoff. This is the Club’s second largest annual fundraiser and, to continue to make the outing attractive and affordable, the Golf Committee has kept the price the same as last year’s successful event. If you register and pay prior to July 27th, your cost for the day, which includes lunch, golf (hole-in-one entries included) and dinner with open bar, is only $100. If you register after that date or pay on-site the cost is $115. Each Par 3 will provide hole-inone opportunities with prizes ranging from $10,000, a golf vacation package, a hot air balloon ride and golf equipment. We will continue with our popular 50/50 putting contest, LED HD TV card game, raffles, silent auction, door prizes and a 50/50 cash raffle. Please see the enclosed flyer for complete details or go to www.golfdigestplanner.com/22359-grossepointecrisisclub/ The Golf Committee is continuing to solicit donations for the prize drawing and Tee Sponsorships. If you have any questions regarding the event please contact Ted Eikhoff at 313-407-9132 or [email protected]. If you have any items for the silent auction contact Steve Graus at stevegraus@ comcast.net. For sponsorship opportunities contact Jim Maniere at 586-2323994 or at [email protected]. This is our last major fundraiser of the year, so please lend your support and help make this another successful “Kotcher’s Kapers” Golf Outing. Vormelker - Crisis Case Director Case 1480 J. Oreson – D. Vormelker A middle aged couple with three children living at home was referred by a GPCC member’s son. Both adults were receiving Social Security Disability Insurance Benefits. The oldest daughter left home leaving numerous bills. Another daughter, still at home, was sleeping on the floor. The Club assisted with two months rent, a car insurance payment and a box spring and mattress for the daughter. Case 1481 J. Kotcher – J.
