Before and after care is available for programs offered at the Lower School.
Programs are held at Detroit Country Day campuses in Bloomfield Hills and Beverly Hills.

Programs at the Lower School Campus
(Maple Road Campus)
Detroit Country Day Lower School is proud to offer a unique summer opportunity that will challenge and intrigue your
child from three to nine years old. The series consists of six weekly sessions created and instructed by Detroit Country
Day Lower School teachers. Each session provides a hands-on experience aimed to stimulate and motivate your child.
The sessions offer a variety of themes and adventures that incorporate academics, creativity, and enrichment. Weekly
themes range from Social Studies to computers, cooking to nature, literature to crafts guaranteed to entice your child.
Minimum group size is 8 children. Children must be potty trained and three years old before June 18, 2012. Children
ages three and four have the option to participate in half day or full day camp.
Dates: June 18-July 27
Before Care Hours: 8:00 AM – 9:00 AM $25 per week
Camp Hours: 9:00 AM-3:00 PM (½ day sessions for three and four year olds; 9:00am -12:00pm)
After Care Hours: 3:00 PM-5:30 PM $50 per week
Camp Fee ½ Day Session: $185 per week (available for three and four year olds only)
Camp Fee Full Day Session: $285 per week
Late Pick-Up Fee: $5 late fee for every 10 minute interval, payable upon pick-up.
*Water play will be offered daily. Bring bathing suit, sunscreen, and towel every day. All campers need a peanut
free snack and lunch each day.

This course fulfills the Detroit Country Day School one semester, ½ credit sophomore requirement for CM201 / CM202 / CM211 / CM212.
Students specifically interested in taking either Debate or Forensics should sign up for the 2012 - 2013 academic year semester course.
The course objective is to train the student in practical methods for development and delivery of the informative and persuasive public speech,
including theoretical bases for speech development, composition and delivery. Exercises and applications include extemporaneous and impromptu
speaking; information, persuasion, and introduction speeches; and speeches with visual aids. Students will be evaluated by the instructor as well as by
other students. Discussions cover topics such as listening, contemporary speech makers, and proper audience behavior. Skills required for
development of the public speech, such as expository writing style and research methods, have cross applications to other core courses. In addition,
speaking before an audience prepares the student for collegiate and business presentations.

Advanced Composition is a course designed for academically able 7th and 8th graders as well as students in grades 9-12 who want to reinforce their
reading and writing skills, build their vocabulary level, and understand and apply grammar rules to their writing. Students will read and analyze a short
story every day, learn 100 vocabulary words a week, write creative and analytical papers. Assessments are given daily. Students can take the course for
credit to improve their previous English GPA or to just learn to read and write with more skill. An English notebook and exam at the end of the
course are required.

9th Grade Study Strategies for High School Success Thirteen Mile Campus
Program fee: $150
Learning how to learn is one of the most important skills a student can achieve throughout his/her school experience. This two day back-to-school
program is designed to help students build confidence and think strategically about their learning styles. Building on individual student strengths and
helping each participant to think like a teacher when it comes to assessment will provide a strong foundation to build upon for a successful high school
experience. Students will try out various study strategies, design a system of organization for their ninth grade year, organize the file folders in their
computer and create study guide templates.
All materials and an original set of supplies will be provided as part of the cost and will remain the property of the student. Students are encouraged to
bring their laptops if that is how they intend to take notes in school. To help personalize instruction, there will be a short learning styles questionnaire
to be completed prior to class.

opportunities. The Leadership Academy will help students develop the foundational philosophy, vision, character, ethics, and skills necessary to
becoming a successful student and lifelong leader whether their focus is formal or informal leadership. The Leadership Series is broken down into two

Yellowjacket Lacrosse Camp strives to deliver the best combination of teaching and playing experience in a camp setting. Yellowjacket Lacrosse Camp
will provide instructional benefits from the beginning player through the experience player. Fundamentals of all positions on offense, defense, faceoffs and goaltending will be taught. FULL EQUIPMENT is required as well as a water bottle. Come ready to learn.

This will be a great chance for your child to develop their overall athletic skills while having fun playing sports. The camp will cover the following
sports: basketball, baseball, football, soccer, track & field, golf, floor hockey, volleyball, along with parachute play. Campers will stay active and get
valuable exercise through drill work and age-appropriate games.

Adventures in Climbing
Thirteen Mile Campus
Program fee: $125
This camp offers the students the thrill of climbing rope courses in Country Day's Project Adventure area in the Morris gymnasium. It challenges
students of all abilities, builds self-esteem and confidence. Daily activities include: walking the tension traverse; swinging to the cargo net; taking on the
challenge of rated climbing routes on the high climbing walls; jumping for the trapeze; and learning belaying techniques on Country Day's elaborate
climbing wall.

Detroit Country Day School has a proven record of developing quality student/athletes in men's and women's interscholastic soccer programs (19
state championships since 1981). Over 80 DCDS alumni have completed their intercollegiate soccer careers at prominent colleges and universities in
recent years. Prior to their high school experience, many field players and goalkeepers attended the Country Day Soccer Academy to develop their
soccer talents. Both the regular and advanced Soccer Academy programs are geared toward serious soccer training. The staff features coaches who
have gained their experience from the Olympic Development Program, the United Soccer Leagues and excellent collegiate programs.
