aces Council FAQs
What is the aces Council?
The Council is an advisory body with consultative status within aces. It reflects the
participative principle of aces and was created to intensify the mutual exchange of
aces stakeholders and better prepare the field for decisions of the management.
What are the roles and tasks of the Council members?
The Council acts as a “bridge” between the participants (students and teachers)
and the aces management. It voices opinions, feedback, ideas, needs and
questions of teachers and students deriving from own experiences and/or collected
during aces events. This ensures their integration in the aces programme
development process. The Council members also act as (peer) consultants and
resource persons for students and teachers regarding aces and the implementation
of school partnership projects. Furthermore, the Council members, as many other
participants, are important aces multipliers promoting programme aims, values and
information on various levels.
How and when is the Council involved in aces activities?
The mandate of the appointed Council members lasts 2 years. The Council
members participate in the aces events actively as dialogue partners and resource
persons: each member takes part in at least one event (Kick-Off or Academy)
during the mandate. In addition, every second year, the Council gathers with the
aces management for the two-day “Council and Strategy Meeting” in Vienna.
How can aces participants contribute to the work of the Council?
The Council members can be approached during aces events. They are happy to
hear and forward to the aces management: direct feedback (positive/negative),
specific conditions that complicate project participation / implementation, new ideas.
Or you contact Council members via the website: www.aces.or.at/council
More Council FAQs on www.aces.or.at/council-faqs
aces Council
In 2010 the aces Council was established with the aim to promote the idea of
lived participation and to shape the future development of aces together
with the aces management. By involving students and teachers of former aces
projects, a broader perspective is guaranteed as the voices and needs of the
target group can be more easily considered in the planning and development of
aces. The Council assumes an advisory role with consultative status – it
does not make decisions but can point at blind spots and give recommendations
to the aces management.
The Council: 4 students and 4 teachers from different aces countries
Council members work on a voluntary basis, are nominated by Interkulturelles
Zentrum, take part in aces events and have an individual mandate of two years
maximum. Each of them has aces project and event experiences as well as a
solid understanding of the aces program and is willing to share experiences,
knowledge and new ideas with peers and the aces management.

The story of a magic learning journey
Let yourself be taken away into the land of stories –
where the border between fantasy and reality is open!
You altogether create a short story about a magic learning journey of a small group of
people – so you already have three elements of your story:



A journey of a small group
Learning along the way
And a bit of magic
What else do you need for a story?





Who are the main characters? So who is part of the small group?
Where is the journey happening? From where to where?
What are main happenings, surprises, experiences of the group during the journey?
Imagine at least 3 experiences/happenings!
What is the magic in the journey?
What is the learning of the journey?
Want some inspiration?
You have the 5 picture cards (DIXIT) and three objects – let them inspire you for your
story!
…once your story is ready you tell it to one other group; everybody
in your group should tell a part of the story. The story should
maximum be 3 minutes long.
Time!
You have 20 minutes to develop the story and 10 minutes for storytelling to another group!

Descriptions of Learning Places and Workshops
On the following pages you will find the descriptions of the sessions that
will be offered on Thursday, 02 June 2016 between 10:15 and 17:00.
One half of the day you and your student will each attend one workshop of
your preference, the other half-day you will attend the Learning Places.
Exception: STUDENTS who register for Workshop 4 will NOT participate
in the Learning Places as this performance workshop will last ALL-DAY.
In order to make it easier for you to make up your mind, we have asked
the trainers to select a picture that symbolizes their workshop and to rate
their offer by using the following pictograms:

SOLIDARITY: How is everything connected - and
what is our part in it?

The dark pictograms count: If e.g. you can see three dark pictograms for
Methods/Tools it means that the workshop provides a lot of
Methods/Tools. If two are dark it means that it’s average, and if it’s only
one it obviously means that you can expect rather few Methods/Tools.
You have been asked to register online until 25 April 2016. The
workshop you (were) signed up for is indicated on your accreditation.
CIVIL COURAGE: Get up - stand up - for your
rights, for our rights, for everybody’s rights!
INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION: All about skills for working together.
Yes, we can!

Workshop 1:
Change the world with a story
Workshop 2:
.b – The power of being in the moment
Trainer:
Darko MARKOVIĆ, Inn.Side – learning and

Size of group: max. 30 participants
Size of group: max. 30 participants
You have just done a great project or
you have a wonderful idea and you
need to tell the world about it.
But how to do that? How to tell your
story in order to inspire other people
and gain their support?
The good news is that you don’t
need to be a professional writer or
speaker to do it! With some good
suggestions, a lot of passion and a
bit of practice - everyone can do it.
Luckily, stories have that “unique power to move people’s hearts”.
In this workshop we will explore together what makes stories “inspirational”
and how to develop your storytelling skills. And remember – we all have
stories to tell. And we all want to change the world.
Location: Hotel Sun, Hall 2
Trainer:
Peter HOFMANN, Limina – Learning in Transition,
Austria
.b, pronounced [dot-be], stands for “Stop, Breathe and Be!” Behind it is a
widely tested and researched programme to
bring mindfulness into schools
(www.mindfulnessinschools.org).
Mindfulness in its essence is about directing
your attention to what is happening in your
body and mind right now – it is about noticing,
sensing and observing without judging it as
good or bad.
.b aims to help young people to experience
greater well-being (e.g. feel happier, calmer,
more fulfilled) and improve their concentration and focus, in classes, in exams
and tests, on the sports field, when playing games, when paying attention and
listening to others – and when practiced over a longer period even much
more.
In the workshop we will practice a few of the starting exercises from the .bprogramme to enter playfully into the art of mindfulness. We will also explore
together its potential for schools.

ALL-DAY WORKSHOP! STUDENTS ONLY!
RECOMMENDED FOR TEACHERS!
Size of group: max. 40 participants
There are no limits to variations! Wondering and bewilderment included.
Imagine, you as a student are
responsible for your own learning
outcomes and you – as a teacher –
accompany the students in this
process. Imagine, more positive than
negative aspects could be detected in
school life and many things would
succeed within a day in the classroom.
How can teachers and students focus
more on the positive? What effects
does this have on the brain? How
does positive learning succeed
anyway? How can we develop
potentials? What is a potential at all?
In this workshop you learn a new attitude and a different approach to learning
outcomes and situations in everyday school life. It will empower you to be
more focused on your resources and potential in your own life as a teacher or
student. Let's try it!
Location: Hotel Sun, Hall 3
Size of group: max.16 participants
You may seem inconspicuous - hidden in
silver tubes. You´ll twist in all directions,
seemingly spineless. Never-seen patterns
develop. Your light circles of swinging poi
in the black light will fascinate the
audience. You’ll take them through a
special kind of sparkling evening...soap
bubbles & more included.
Get yourself moving and discover your
power and potential: work on the five short
performances for the aces Ceremony in about five hours. Yes, after the official
four hours of workshop we will still rehearse in the Ceremony Hall.
In the first part of the workshop, we will show you the different techniques of the
upcoming performances. Each participant will have a very basic look at the
several props and some stage mysteries. Then we will work very concentratedly
on the performance in a friendly, attentive and playful atmosphere!
Please bring comfortable clothes and gym shoes for the workshop and even
comfortable BLACK CLOTHES and if possible some comfortable BLACK SHOES
that you are able to perform with. Please also reserve extra time for rehearsals
from 16:45-17:30!
