SAN TELMO STREET MARKET The San Telmo Street Market is the largest and most popular artisan market in Buenos Aires. Visiting this market on a Sunday should be in any list of things to do in Buenos Aires. The San Telmo Street Market was first established in 1970 in Plaza Dorrego, where nowadays more than 270 antique stalls offer crafts and unique items every Sunday. With stalls that stretch for almost 2 km, from Plaza de Mayo up to Cochabamba Street, the famous Defensa Street serves as the best display of Argentine art and culture: Tango dancers, live music, leather goods, clothing, jewelry, toys, and many more items designed and created by Argentine artisans. Towards the evening, once the stalls have packed away, you can walk around the nearby streets and enjoy a beer in one of the many bars, while watching a “milonga” outdoors. This way you will be definitely soaked in the authentic atmosphere of the San Telmo neighborhood. Days & Hours of the San Telmo Street Market: The Flea Market in Plaza Dorrego is held every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Artisan Market ends around 7 p.m. in winter and around 9 p.m. in summer. Location: Defensa Street, from Plaza de Mayo up to Cochabamba Street. The Antiques and Flea Market is located at Plaza Dorrego, between Defensa Street and Humberto Primo Street. 2. PLAZA SERRANO STREET MARKET Originally called “Feria Cortázar”, this small square in Palermo hosts a fancy market during the weekends. Craft vendors have traditionally set up their stalls in the square itself, but what makes this market unique is that bars and restaurants surrounding Plaza Serrano provide a space for young Buenos Aires designers to display their hip clothing and accessories, turning the Plaza Serrano Street Market into the best exhibition of modern Argentine creations. This market is also a great place for anyone who enjoys shopping in exclusive boutiques, while also appreciating the unique charm of Palermo Soho. Days & Hours of the Plaza Serrano Street Market: Saturdays and Sundays, from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. Location: Honduras Street, Serrano Street and Borges Street. 3. PLAZA FRANCIA ARTISAN MARKET Every weekend on Saturday and Sunday, Plaza Francia is filled with musicians, street artists and craftsmen who offer an array of items, including pottery, metal, wood and leather goods. Visiting the Artisan Market in Plaza Francia is a great opportunity to get to know some of the beautiful surrounding landmarks: Recoleta Cemetery, Recoleta Cultural Center and Hard Rock Café. Due to its upscale location, prices in Recoleta tend to be a bit higher compared to other street markets in the city. Days & Hours of the Plaza Francia Artisan Market: Saturday and Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Location: Del Libertador Ave., Pueyrredón Ave., Ricardo Levene Street and Luis Agote Street.
