Wednesdays at Winterthur | Fall Faves: Plants You’re Sure to Love| October 17, 2012 The summer is over; it’s now fall! It’s time to get out there and start planting again. We forget that fall is the ideal time to plant new shrubs, trees, and perennials. Why? • • • • Warm soil from the summer promotes root growth. The fall brings dependable rainfall and cooler temperatures. These are fewer disease and pest problems. Many plants are on sale at local nurseries. What to plant? When you think of fall, you think of chrysanthemums. But there are so many plants out there to add color to your garden. Some are exclusively fall bloomers, but others will flower early and then produce fruit or vibrant colors. Listed below are plants highly recommended for color, interest, fruit, or flower.
