Report writes off growth in the
stationery market
According to Stationery (Personal
& Office), a new Market Report
from business intelligence provider
Key Note, the UK market for
stationery products exhibited a
year-on-year contraction of 0.5%
in 2013. The market is currently
experiencing a period of longterm decline, with consumption
falling across the corporate, public
and consumer sectors as digital
services replace ever more tasks
previously undertaken with the use
of stationery items.
With massive demand for business
software solutions and electronic
storage in the corporate sector, rising
uptake of electronic communications
in the consumer market and the
implementation of ‘Digital by Default’
in the public sector, the market for
stationery products has continued to
shrink over the last few years.
Nevertheless, certain sectors have
remained resilient. The giftware market
has been the strongest segment in the
stationery market, with new, innovative
products featuring vibrant designs
driving considerable growth. Other
high-growth areas include premium
products; cheaper, disposable items; and
highly sustainable and/or recyclable
products and solutions.
With the ongoing computerisation
of the corporate and social space, the
UK stationery market is expected to
continue its downwards spiral over the
next few years.
However, Key Note is predicting a
return to growth from 2017, albeit at
a relatively low rate, as manufacturers
and resellers realign supply with
demand and the UK economy improves.

Refined touchscreen gloves
Disengaged employees cost UK £15bn
Research by the Centre for Mental Health shows that presenteeism (at
work physically but disengaged mentally) costs UK businesses £15bn
per year.
According to a recent IPSOS survey commissioned by Steelcase, only
11% of workers in open plan offices are engaged and inspired at work; 63%
are disengaged and unmotivated; and 37% describe their workplace as
‘stressful’.
Half (49%) of all offices in the UK are open plan and although most
workers feel they are an appropriate space for them to work, many
complained about a lack of privacy and unwanted distractions. The average
worker is interrupted every three minutes and takes up to 23 minutes to
return to the task in hand.
In the UK, only 57% of the people surveyed said they could concentrate
easily and only 50% are able to work without interruption.

Smart vending solutions
State-of-the-art vending machines
fitted with the world’s most advanced
telemetry technology are set to
save office facilities managers up to
80% of costs on current engineering
interventions, according to vending
equipment supply company Smart
Vend Solutions.
The use of telemetry represents a
significant time and cost saving for
operators, as it removes the need for both
manual repairs and restocking requests,
potentially reducing the average number
of costly engineering call-outs per year
from three to one.
New software and hardware developed
by Rheavendors links each machine to a
centralised ‘always on’ IP communications
system. This automatically feeds
information on usage, maintenance,
potential mechanical failures and reverse
calculated stock levels to machine
provider Smart Vend Solutions’ external
operations management database.
The .On software is able to correlate
the amount of coffee beans ordered with
the precise amount dispensed, before
automatically scheduling a pre-emptive
delivery, while also instantly relaying any
maintenance issues.
Pre-emptive delivery ordering, which
balances sales versus stock levels, is
designed to ensure machines never run
out of coffee, milk or cups, significantly
reducing machine downtime.

Bellerbys College delivers a lesson
in mail management with Neopost
Bellerbys Educational Services
operates four colleges for
international students in
the UK including a Brighton
campus teaching students
from over 120 different
countries. Students can study
a GCSE Pathway Programme,
A level subjects or a
Foundation Year course for
university entry.
They looked to Neopost for
a quick and efficient solution
to handle over 400 items of
mail posted by the College
each week.
THE CH A LLE NGE
T HE PRO C ES S
TH E S OLU TION
With 900 students and 450 staff,
Bellerbys College in Brighton
generates a lot of mail with over
400 items a week being posted.
Andzelika Bendoraityte, the Reception
Manager responsible for postal
services explains, “Three staff are on
reception at any one time and part
of their responsibilities is to process
the outgoing post. This includes
mail from our finance department,
student reports and certificates, so
it’s important that these items are
processed quickly
and efficiently.”
“We have been a Neopost customer
for ten years, but at the end of the
lease we decided to look at other
suppliers, as part of best practice.
However, Neopost had a lot of positive
points in its favour. The account
management we receive has always
been very good and the servicing is
excellent. If we place a service call an
engineer is on site the same day or
early the next day.”
For folding and inserting, Neopost
provided the DS-63 folder inserter
which can fill up to 2,200 envelopes
an hour and fold up to five documents
in tri-fold format. The exclusive
FlexFeed® feeder mechanism handles
just about any insert size or type
including A4, A5, leaflets, postcards
or envelopes. The Neopost Load ‘N
Go® feature automatically measures
envelopes and enclosures, sets the
folds to match and gets on with the
job when the user presses start.
To process outgoing post Bellerbys
used a Neopost DS-60 folder inserter
and a Neopost IS-430 franking
machine. “They were both good
machines, but we were coming to
the end of the five year lease on the
equipment, so it was time to review
our options”, Andzelika confirms.
After reviewing the market Bellerbys
College decided to take a new lease
on updated Neopost equipment.
“Neopost came up with a tailored
package for us that not only saved
us money, but gave us brand new
equipment.
We appreciated that Neopost wanted
to keep our business and that they
were treating us as a valued customer
and not taking us for granted because
we had been with them for a long
time.”
For mail franking Neopost supplied
the MailmarkTM ready IS-480 mailing
system which eliminates the manual
task of sorting mail by size, thickness,
or weight. Envelopes of various
sizes and formats can be loaded
together into the self-aligning feeder,
then by pressing start the IS-480
will automatically seal and frank
envelopes at a rate of 150 letters
per minute.
“We chose the IS-480 as it comes with MailmarkTM
technology, the latest generation of franking from
Royal Mail. We can be sure that Mailmark offers us
the lowest franking prices and will give us access
to future Royal Mail services.”

SCANNING
Capturing information
in the digital age
In its report The Digital Decade - Are You Ready? IDC states that between
now and 2020, the amount of digital information created and replicated
in the world will grow to almost 35 zetabytes.
Today, we are managing more
information than ever – according to
Forrester Research, content volume is
growing at a rate of 200% annually –
and this means that the importance of
creating efficient systems to handle
this ever-increasing volume has never
been greater.
InfoTrends reports that document
scanning and capture is common practice
in many areas of business, where it is
being used not only as a means to digitise
paper but, with the aid of solutions, also
as a sophisticated method of capturing
information and automatically identifying
and organising it.
“Scanning, processing and storing
documents electronically eliminates
inefficiencies associated with
paperwork,” said Neopost Operational
Marketing Director Phil Hutchison. “It can
speed up document retrieval, improve
accuracy, streamline processes, ease
compliance, enhance customer service
and reduce paper use.”
He added: “With the high cost of
office space, many of our customers are
digitising archives to free up document
storage space. The largest are saving
hundreds of thousands of pounds a year,
but the great thing about scanning is that
even small businesses have a lot to gain.”
Sean Suematsu, European Document
Scanning Solutions Director at Canon
Europe, said: “Organisations are
increasingly realising the benefits
of moving towards a digitised office
environment and are reaping the
rewards as a result – from the time it
saves employees by having easy and
instant access to important documents,
to the improved office productivity
that it delivers. We’re seeing this
positively impact the appetite for high
speed business scanning. Our new
imageFORMULA DR-F120 for example not
only offers reliable, high-speed document
capture, but also delivers the versatile
functionality our customers are looking
for at a very competitive price-point.”
Document solutions deliver boost
According to IDC, document solutions
are delivering a boost to the CEMA
(Central Europe and Middle East) imaging
scanner market.
The market intelligence firm’s latest
Document Imaging Scanner Tracker
shows a 2.7% quarter-on-quarter
increase in shipments (Q1 2014). Market
value increased by 11.4% in the same
period to reach $139.2 million. Growth
was mainly driven by demand for
document solutions in key verticals such
as finance (banking and insurance) and
the public sector.
Paper
intensive
environments
often have
high costs,
errors and
compliance
issues...
Speedy scanner
Panasonic has launched two high speed scanners that
can process paper of various thicknesses, from 20gsm
to 413gsm, embossed ID cards, passports and more.
With high speed duplex scanning, the KV-S1057C
can scan 65 pages per minute whilst the KV-S1027C
can scan 45 pages per minute. One hundred sheets can
be placed on the automatic document feeder using a
gate mechanism which avoids paper feed problems and
skewing.
The compact size of the scanner allows it to conveniently fit into small spaces, whilst a
document feed specifically designed for IDs and passports makes it particularly suitable for
hotel receptions.
www.binfo.co.uk
Research Analyst David Mühlbach
said: “All CEMA document imaging
scanner markets are far from saturation
and growth is expected throughout the
2014-2018 forecast period. This growth
will be driven primarily by the need to
access business content in digital format
anywhere and the growing adoption of
document solutions.”
KYOCERA adds to portfolio
Capitalising on this growth opportunity,
KYOCERA Document Solutions UK Ltd,
best known for its range of printers and
multifunctional products, has recently
added six high-speed scanners to its
portfolio.
The company said that the PFU Fujitsu
scanners will complement its document
solutions offering, supporting its Managed
Document Services (MDS) and cloud
printing propositions, which streamline
business processes, improve productivity
and reduce operational costs.
Paper-intensive environments often
have high costs, errors, compliance issues
and problems recreating old documents.
Most document repository systems
involve large investments in servers
and equipment and many hours spent
on implementation, maintenance and
support. Technological advancements
in scanning now integrate the cloud
with scanning software and hardware
and KYOCERA enables the move from
physical to cloud storage by hosting
storage in the cloud.
Product Manager Sarah White said:
“Scanning is key in helping organisations
of every size make the initial move from
the physical to the cloud. Our customers
are focused on improving their document
workflow whether scanning via an MFP,
batch scanning to the cloud with a
dedicated scanner or scanning to the
cloud from a mobile environment. When
integrated with our document solutions
these scanners fully assist in document
workflow.”

PACKAGING
Ampac brings the
KeepSafe brand
to the office
US-based security packaging company Ampac is bringing its
KeepSafe brand of tamper-evident packaging to the UK office
market. The range is already widely used for cash-in-transit by
clients operating within the retail, financial and gaming sectors.
Sales and Marketing Director James
Mead, who joined the firm just over
a year ago with a brief to build the
brand within the office products
sector, said: “KeepSafe tamper-evident
security bags are known worldwide as
the premier, established brand in the
loss prevention industry and they are
also an ideal solution for organisations
faced with the problem of sending
sensitive information and valuables in
the mail securely and without risk.”
The company recently enhanced
the closure options for its KeepSafe
product range with the introduction of a
mid-level, permanent-adhesive closure,
KeepSafe Premium, for users with
moderate risk applications, such as direct
to branch deposits, armoured courier
deposits, internal cash management or
secure document transport.
The brand now has three levels of
tamper-evident security: KeepSafe
Secure, KeepSafe Premium and the
top-of-the-range KeepSafe Ultra, which
Ampac has redesigned with unique
security features, including die-cuts
that cause the closure to tear when
mechanically peeled. KeepSafe Ultra is
intended for customers with high risk
applications, such as cash-in-transit
providers, financial institutions and
pharmaceutical distributors.
“Ampac’s expertise in coextruded
films provides a secure, sustainable
and cost-saving packaging solution for
organisations that need to ensure that
sensitive information, legal documents
or confidential tenders, remain secure in
transit,” said Mead.
“All products are made from lighter
and stronger polythene which results in
cheaper postage costs for businesses.
KeepSafe packaging voids against heat,
cold, solvents and moisture, and it is also
biodegradable, reducing environmental
impact.”
The KeepSafe range is carried by UK
wholesalers including Spicers and VOW.

Letterboxable packaging range
Packaging distributor Macfarlane Packaging has
launched the Letterboxable range of packaging
following consumer feedback, which identified
unnecessarily large packaging as the biggest
single frustration for online shoppers.
A recent survey conducted with 1,000 consumers
by One Poll Market Research for Macfarlane Packaging,
revealed that 21% of respondents were irritated by
having to pick up parcels or rearrange delivery because
senders had used inappropriately sized packaging that
wouldn’t fit through the letterbox.
The full Letterboxable range of packaging includes
bubble envelopes, postal bags, mailing sacks and
cardboard wraps, all designed to fit through a UK
standard sized letterbox of 260mm x 45mm.

PostSafe range added to Antalis

Antalis UK is now the exclusive stockist of the
Postsafe range of opaque, clear and padded
polythene mailing envelopes and bags.

LIGHTING
Lighting the offices
of the future
According to a McKinsey report, LED lighting will be a 65
billion Euro industry by 2020. LEDs are smaller, use less
power, last longer and are more robust than traditional
bulbs, so when faced with pressure to reduce energy costs
and improve green credentials, it’s no wonder that more
and more businesses are choosing LEDs.
Energy-efficient LifeBulb
Intelligent light
DURABLE, a brand best known
for desktop accessories, filing,
signage and presentation products, has
just entered the LED lighting market,
with the launch of LUCTRA, a range of
four floor and table lamps.
Thanks to their high luminance, very
even light distribution and an extremely
broad colour spectrum, the LEDs generate
just the right colour and brightness of
light to mimic daylight. Because daylight
controls our natural biorhythms and
influences our mood, DURABLE says the
lamps enhance personal well-being in
the workplace and support concentrated,
relaxed and productive work.
In addition, the lamp heads feature
open cooling fins, which dissipate the heat
so that the operating temperature
never rises above 40°C. This also
helps achieve a service life of up
to 50,000 hours.
All models are equipped
with the intelligent VITACORE
electronic system, which gives
intuitive access to LUCTRA
functions including the ability to
control the lamp remotely using
the VITACORE smartphone app for
smartphones.
One interesting feature of the
app is the ability to programme
a personal 24-hour lighting
sequence, which varies the light
colour throughout the day, with
the option to adjust settings to
individual tastes at any time.

Task illumination
Ariel is a new suspended
ceiling light range from Jake
Dyson, ideal for the overhead
illumination of office desks, boardroom
tables and even kitchen islands.
Ariel has been developed to run cool
for a longer life. Once installed, it will
perform efficiently and effectively for
decades.
Cutting-edge optics cast an even,
rectangular pool of light over a large
surface. This can be adjusted and finely
targeted to light a square or rectangular
space, table or work surface.
www.jakedyson.com
The LifeBulb from UK-based design
company Zeta Specialist Lighting has
been developed as a replacement for
the traditional 60W incandescent light
bulb. Its unique design keeps the LEDs
cool and unlike most energy-efficient
bulbs, it provides bright light instantly
with no warm-up time.
The LifeBulb is fully dimmable and, for
easy installation, is compatible with all
common domestic triac dimming systems.
It lasts for 30,000 hours or around 20
years of typical usage and, as it only uses
12W of energy, running costs are one fifth
of a normal 60W bulb.

SmartBalance cuts energy
costs by 50%
Philips’ floor-standing SmartBalance
luminaires provide adaptable, flexible and
comfortable lighting and deliver energy
cost savings of over 50%. State-of-the-art
LED technology delivers increased energy
efficiency, while their clean, compact
design blends into any environment. A
single luminaire just 37mm high can light
two desks to the levels required for offices
and deliver an energy efficacy of over 100
lm/W.

CASE STUDY
LED lighting transforms
Banbury and Bicester College
Lively, multi-faceted and full of inspirations – that’s
Paperworld, the showcase of the paper, office supplies
and stationery sector. For retailers and trade buyers
it’s the most important platform for finding out about
new products, discovering the latest trends and forging
contacts with industry colleagues. Make sure you’re
here in 2015!
Activate Learning, an educational organisation based in Oxford with three
FE colleges, two technical colleges and a marketing consulting company,
has refurbished its Banbury and Bicester College campus, utilising LED
lighting supplied by Zeta Specialist Lighting.
As part of an ongoing refurbishment project, Activate Learning commenced
a competitive tender for the supply and installation of new lighting for three
key areas within Banbury and Bicester College – the main corridor linking the
reception area with the classrooms, a gaming area for students and the IT
learning room.
The brief included a requirement for energy-efficient lighting that would
cut the college’s energy bills and reduce the workload of its maintenance team
through long-lasting, low maintenance operation.
Zeta recommended its Ultra Slim Ceiling Panels for all three areas. Panels
in the main corridor were also fitted with Zeta Emergency Kits, which provide
over three hours of emergency, ultra-low 5W lighting.
The ultra slim ceiling panels give off more light and use significantly less
power than fluorescent tubes, producing annual cost savings of around 50%.
They also require less maintenance, as a standard fluorescent tube has an
average rated life of 15,000 hours compared to 50,000 hours for Zeta’s LED
ultra slim panels.
With a thickness of only 7mm, the ultra slim design allows for easy
installation and offers an enhanced aesthetic appearance once in-situ. Panels
can be supplied in bespoke sizes, if required, and can be installed as surfacemounted or recessed luminaires.
The college specified 600 x 600mm panels for the main corridor and eight
1200 x 300mm surface-mounted ultra-slim panels for the IT room.
“Zeta’s recommended solution was both competitive and cost-effective,”
said Facilities Manager Bridget Richardson. “We especially wanted a product
that would save on maintenance and as Zeta’s LEDs have a long life, we were
happy that our maintenance team wouldn’t be continually up and down
ladders changing them.” www.zetaled.co.uk

OPINION
Looking ahead to 2015
P2P asks leading vendors within the office products market to
summarise the biggest emerging trends experienced in their respective
sectors in 2014 and what they predict will happen in 2015.
Stuart Barker,
Marketing Manager, Pilot Pens
“Market data, customer feedback
and sales all indicate that the writing
instruments market as a whole is in a
very healthy state and continues to grow,
while it appears that own brand writing
instruments are declining and being
displaced by branded products.
“Consumers are becoming more brandconscious when it comes to choosing a
pen and look for quality and technical
innovation that deliver increased writing
performance. Our FriXion family of
erasable rollerball pens is currently our
strongest selling range and year-on-year
sales growth is very positive.
“Pilot’s more traditional products, such
as our Liquid Ink V5 and V7 needle tip
rollerball pens, continue to be the preferred
writing instrument within their product
category as they are a long established
product which consumers know and trust
for smooth writing comfort.
“Consumers are also looking for
technical benefits from their writing
instruments. While Pilot is not the lowest
priced within our customer’s product
categories, our continual year-on-year
sales growth and market share gains prove
that consumers are prepared to spend a
little more to enjoy technical benefits,
such as the ability to erase offered by
the Pilot FriXion and the smooth-writing
performance of our Pure Liquid Ink
rollerball range.”

Karen Harrison
Group Marketing Manager,
AF International
“Reducing wastage is a trend that will
continue in 2015; we will see more
environmentally-friendly products,
healthier working environments and more
responsible manufacturing processes.
“In general, people are more aware
of the environment they work in and
are more interested in how the product
is produced and where. AF will continue
investment in research and development
to drive products that lead to efficiency,
productivity and environmental
protection. We are launching a ‘world
first’ to the office products market in
2015, a unique innovative product that
has zero environmental impact, zero
toxicity and zero hazards in use (see page
18 for more information).”
www.af-net.com
Fiona Mills
Marketing Director,
Avery UK
“In 2014, we’ve observed two key
trends for the industry to embrace
and learn from. One is the surge in
entrepreneurialism and business startups, which has created a demand for
solutions suitable for small and home
offices. At the other end of the scale, in
larger businesses, we are seeing a rise in
the number of millennials making up the
workforce and bringing changes to office
culture with them.
“These two trends actually crossover
in terms of what they mean for office
suppliers. Both involve a rise in working
from home or away from the office, as
well as flexible working, a reliance on new
technology and doing away with outdated
office traditions. In short, solutions need
to be flexible, cost effective and adaptable
for today’s generation of workers.
“Our Avery Design & Print software
has enabled us to embrace and support
both of these trends. Small businesses
are using the software and templates to
design and print their own business cards,
merchandising and branding materials
and more, all from their home office. The
result is that there’s no longer a need for
costly outsourcing or long lead times.
Millennials, too, are fans of this quick and
simple approach to getting personalised
branded materials, whether it’s shipping
labels, marketing collateral or company
signage. This is a generation that has
grown up with social media and is used
to a faster pace – they want to be able
to bring their ideas to life at the touch of
a button and Avery Design & Print helps
make this happen.
“Across both trends, e-commerce
is a huge growth area, whether it’s
small online sellers setting up or larger
companies increasing their online
offering. We see this as a trend that’s
set to continue, especially when you
consider that e-commerce is now a daily
or weekly activity for most of us. This is
hugely significant for the industry and
has created a demand for innovative
mailroom and packaging supplies.
“In addition to the growth of
e-commerce, we see millennials
dominating the workplace and the rise in
entrepreneurialism as continuing trends
for 2015. A recent report from Forbes
claimed that in the next nine years,
41% of the workforce will be working
from home, which means a big change
from traditional office practices. We
plan to continue embracing these trends
by listening to our consumers through
multiple channels, including social media.
We’ll use these conversations with our
community to ensure Avery products and
software solutions continue to meet their
needs.”

Gregory Schembri
Trade Marketing Manager,
Leitz
“The contribution of the office
manufacturing industry has changed
markedly over the last year. The
majority of professionals are now
mobile, constantly on the go, and office
equipment has had to evolve to reflect
this trend. Many of the more traditional
products are being replaced as electronic
communication and organisation become
more widely used in and out of the
workplace.
“While we continue to focus
and innovate with traditional office
equipment, we have developed appealing
stationery ranges – including a variety of
accessories to support protection, privacy,
charging and sound for modern devices –
that may be used every day on the move.
Our Leitz Complete range incorporates
luggage, iPad cases, phone cases, charging
solutions and speakers. Meanwhile,
our new ICON machine is the latest
technology in label printing. Designed for
the modern world, it is app-enabled and
focused on making the printing of labels
as easy as possible. In a world where
online trading has grown, we see the
market for label printing as a key trend for
2015 - the Leitz ICON reflects the new
digital world we live in.
“In the next year, we’ll continue
to see professionals combining both
work and lifestyle, meaning that office
manufacturers will need to provide not
just products, but an overall lifestyle
solution. Professionals will also want to
begin expressing themselves more through
their work environment, for those times
when they are based in the office and at
their desks. Our WOW range allows users
to express themselves through colour and
vibrancy, with the opportunity to become
up to 30% more productive by doing so.”

Managing Director,
Totalpost Services Plc
“We expect the uptake of Smart Meter
franking machines to continue to increase
in 2015 as more and more business users
start to realise the added accuracy and
savings of using the smart machines.
“A trend that we have seen growing
gradually is a move to make corporate
mailrooms secure. More and more
mailrooms and office reception areas are
starting to use X-Ray security screening
to screen both incoming mail and visitor
baggage for hidden threats. In today’s
heightened security environment, many
employers are integrating additional
security for peace of mind in protecting
their much valued employees. Totalpost
already supply a variety of cabinet and
conveyor type X-Ray security screening
devices and will be looking to add more
options to the portfolio of products to
give clients more choice during 2015.
“Additionally, as education around
hybrid mail services grows, we expect
to see further interest in these services.
We’ve found that once clients try our
desktop to doormat mail delivery system
they opt to use it more and more.
“We’ve seen businesses going back
to direct mail and, as part of this, our
returned mail services have been busy
providing returned mail handling and
data cleansing to help businesses hit their
intended customer targets. Again, this is
a service we expect to grow further in
2015.”

Head of Sales,
STAEDTLER (UK) Ltd
“With the economy showing good signs
of recovery, we expect our new ranges
of fashion pencils and neon fineliners
to be bang on trend, reflecting renewed
optimism in 2015.
“Colour, coupled with quality, is where
our consumers are heading. We are also
excited about the launch of our new Noris
colouring pencil, which mirrors the iconic
Noris yellow and black striped livery on
our existing graphite pencil. This product is
made using cutting edge, wood extruded
technology, unique to Staedtler, which
ensures the pencil is stronger (no breaking
lead whilst sharpening), with really vibrant
colours. Students of all ages are being
further encouraged by their tutors to use
colour in their notes and revision routine,
for example, mind-mapping, as it helps
memory function and recall.”

Customers are realising that it is a wise
economy to pay for premium products
like Guildhall that have an archival
quality that is long lasting and stands
up against regular use.
“We expect to see more of the
same with Guildhall next year. One
factor fuelling this growth is the rising
housing market, which is generating
more orders from solicitors - a key
client sector for this range, along
with other legal offices, government
departments and accountants.
“Another popular product line has
been the Exactive range of mobile
office, filing and presentation products.
Products range from business card
holders and luggage to lightweight,
practical and highly durable
presentation folders, display cases and
filing products.
“Exactive is aimed at executives on
the move, and we have found that with
the improving economy these types of
business people – account managers
and sales managers specifically – have
more money to spend on creating a coordinated and professional look.
“The range offers a number of
combined products that enable users
to carry their note pads, business
cards and project documents in the
same carrier, and appeals to those
happy to spend a little more to have
convenience, functionality, aesthetics
and durability combined.
“Europa has been another success
story of the improving economy. Its
bright colours and distinctive, highquality, mottled pressboard covers
appeal to the design-conscious
stationery buyer looking to coordinate
their office with attractive and

appealing products.
“The increasing focus on premium
quality will also benefit boutique
stationery products, for instance the
Rhodia range of business books and
notepads. As well as the signature,
orange and black design, which
continues to offer super-premium
paper with an ultra smooth satin finish
and PEFC certification as standard, the
same quality is also available in the
elegant and sophisticated White Rhodia
range and the leatherette-bound,
colourful and trendy Rhodiarama range.
“The Rhodia name has a long, wellestablished heritage and we believe
the variations in the range introduced
to meet the preferences of boutique
stationery buyers will make it more
successful still in 2015.”

“There is no doubt that digitisation
and technological advances have led
to a reduced demand for core office
products. But this change brings
new opportunities, whether that’s in
personal productivity products or ones
that ‘chase’ new technology lines, such
as cleaning kits for smartphones, for
example.
“The millennium babies are about to
enter the workplace and already shape
the stationery needs of educational
users. Think tablets, not pens! The
mobile office – working in cars, home
offices, serviced offices etc. – also
continues to gather pace.
“We must recognise the ever
increasing importance of the web and
the transactional players that exist
there – Amazon, Ebay or whoever
– as they earn a disproportionately
greater share of this space compared
to traditional channels that have only
recently entered this space and are still
learning about the benefits of Big Data.
“The New Year will provide further
challenges, but ones which we can all
successfully embrace, as long as we
adapt our business and its resources
and point them in the right direction.”

“Thirty years ago, business
communications was relatively
straightforward: letters, bills,
statements, invoices, offers, contracts
and other business documents were
invariably sent and received through
the post. This began to change in
the ‘80s with fax technology and
accelerated rapidly in the ‘90s with the
adoption of email and more recently,
smartphones and social media.
“Today, businesses communicate
with customers, suppliers, associates
and colleagues via a multitude of
methods including the post, fax, email,
SMS, social media and web portals.
We see an increasing need in 2015 for
companies to adopt this multi-channel
approach to communications to meet
customer preferences and deliver the
right message at the right time and
through the right channel.”
