Fair features talks by popular personalities and storytelling contest
NDLESS choices of books, along
with a myriad of exciting competitions, informative talks and
irresistible offers, await visitors at
the Popular Mega Bookfair 2014 in
Penang.
Ongoing until Dec 7 at the Straits
Quay Convention Centre, it offers
book lovers some 1.5 million books
of various categories.

Helen Goh urged the public to bring
along their children.
"Adults too will be spoilt for
choice," she said at the opening cum
press tour yesterday, which was also
a special member's preview day.
She also highlighted a partnership with Straits Quay in running a
Read Love Share Charity Bookcase
Campaign, whereby the public can
donate English or Malay books suitable for youngsters aged three to 18.
Goh said that customers would
receive vouchers for every 10 books
donated.
In keeping with the Christmas
spirit of giving, about a dozen children from the Persatuan Kebajikan
Shammah orphanage were also
invited to the opening and present-

ed with goodie bags.
They were also gifted with vouchers, which they used to purchase
books and stationery items in a fun
yet educational 'shopping spree'.
Activities lined up include
Malaysian food ambassador Datuk
Redzuawan Ismail, who will lead a
cooking marathon starting 12.30pm
this Sunday, to promote his latest cookbook '400 Resipi Terbaik
Chef Wan', available exclusively at
Popular.
Visitors can also meet Star
Publications (M) Bhd group managing director and chief executive
officer Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai,
the author of 'Penang History, My
Story', in a session on Dec 7 starting
5.30pm.
There will also be a new Popular
Quiz Show on both weekends,
as well as Discover and Learn
Workshops for children every weekday.
Kids can also join the Travel The
World Colouring Competition on
Monday and Tuesday, and Stories
By-The-Sea English Storytelling
Contest on Dec 3 and 4.
This year, the book fair's Daily
Specials offer unbeatable promotions on over 200 products, from
books to stationery and music
CDs.
There is a special 90th Anniversary Hot Deals section, with purchase-with-purchase deals like the
second book at only 90 sen. A Vinyl
Corner brings back the nostalgia of
music records, with over 300 titles
on offer.
Those who apply for new Popular
cards, or renew their membership
by tomorrow, also stand to receive
RM30 in vouchers, along with goodies like travel blankets, cutlery sets
or coasters.
Spending of RM150 and above
in a single receipt on the same day,
entitles one to RM20 in vouchers,
only while stocks last. Terms and
conditions apply.
The book fair is open daily from
11 am to 10pm.
