There can be a number of reasons for wanting to improve your body: • Refining stubborn areas which are resistant to exercise e.g. buttocks • After childbirth e.g. smoothing out a “tummy bulge” left after pregnancy • A genetic problem e.g. male breasts • After weight loss e.g. where excess skin can be an unsightly problem Whatever your concerns, modern plastic surgery techniques mean that you can choose how to refine your body shape with the help of a skilled surgeon. At your consultation, your surgeon will discuss the changes you are looking to make and why. He/she will review your medical history and your physical characteristics in order to provide professional advice on the best way forward. We also offer non-surgical treatments for the body. Hyperhidrosis (excess sweating) can be treated in all our locations, while the number of clinics offering laser treatments is continuing to expand. Tummy Abdominoplasty People generally seek an abdominoplasty, or otherwise known as a tummy tuck in order to achieve a flatter, firmer profile. Diet and exercise are always the best recommendations for losing weight, but a tummy tuck can be very helpful in reshaping the abdomen area, especially where there is a surplus amount of slack skin or a “tummy bulge” that may be resistant to diet and exercise. The tummy tuck is an option for women after childbirth, where the stretching of the abdomen during pregnancy causes a loss of muscle tone and elasticity. Alternatively, if you have lost a lot of weight an abdominoplasty may be considered to tighten a flabby, saggy abdominal area. What is Involved? The procedure involves carefully positioned incisions to allow the removal of surplus skin and fat deposits. Sometimes, when the abdominal muscle is weak, an improvement can be made surgically to tighten loose areas. Abdominoplasty surgery is performed under general anaesthetic and will normally require a 2 night stay in hospital. After a tummy tuck, you will probably need to Patient before and after a tummy tuck convalesce for at least 14 days. This can be as a result of ageing, gravity or significant weight loss and diet and exercise cannot accomplish what surgery can in tightening the skin to produce a sleeker profile. The most commonly understood problem area is the arms, where “bingo wings”, the skin beneath the upper arm, can sag and create a loose bag of skin which can be embarrassing and look unsightly in short-sleeved tops. However, a similar condition can be seen in the thighs or the buttocks. In the extreme, a number of areas are combined to accomplish a “body lift”. An abdominoplasty (or “tummy tuck”) may also be involved. Where there is excess fat as well as skin, liposculpture will also be used to remove excess fat and create an optimum result. The surgeon will advise on this at your consultation. What is Involved? The surgery involves removing excess tissue (skin and fat). Incisions are placed in the most inconspicuous location. Liposculpture is used where there is excess fat to be removed. Surgery is performed under general anaesthetic and you will normally stay 1-2 nights in hospital before returning to recuperate at home. Patient before and after arm uplift Call: 08457 626 727 (UK) 18 50 20 40 90 (Ireland) www.thehospitalgroup.org www.thehospitalgroup.ie 12 Call: 08457 626 727 (UK) 18 50 20 40 90 (Ireland) www.thehospitalgroup.org www.thehospitalgroup.ie 13 Body Reshaping the Body The Hospital Group's cosmetic surgeons practice "Liposculpture". Very similarly to liposuction, this involves removal of excess fat cells from almost any part of the body; though the emphasis is on "scuplting" the body to an aesthetically pleasing shape. In contrast to Liposuction, the process of Liposculpture is more time-consuming and involves a greater amount of personal skill by the plastic surgeon to create a smoother end result. The best candidates for liposculpture are those who have a relatively normal body weight, with pockets of localised fat, which are resistant to exercise and diet. If this describes you, then liposculpture could be a suitable option. Liposculpture (like liposuction) is not a weight loss procedure and is not an answer to obesity problems. What is Involved? The surgeon makes a small incision in the skin and inserts a Cannula Cannula (small tube-like syringe). The fat is then drawn out through the tube leaving a much smoother surface. Liposculpture is performed under general anaesthetic and will require an overnight stay in hospital. After liposculpture a scar of about a quarter of an inch will be left, placed wherever possible in a natural body fold or crease. As with most scars, it will gradually fade to become virtually Skin After undetectable. Unkindly known as "man boobs", this refers to the presence of enlarged or over-developed breasts. It may be due to excess fatty tissue, abnormal glandular (breast) tissue or both. This can be hereditary or the result of a hormone disorder, or may be as a result of illness or certain drugs. It may affect one or both of the breasts and can get worse if the patient puts on weight or loses weight. What is Involved? Plastic surgery to correct over-large male breasts involves the removal of excess glandular breast tissue. Sometimes use of liposcuplture is also involved to remove any excess fat and the surgeon may also surgically remove excess skin if appropriate. Surgery is performed under general anaesthetic and will require an overnight stay in hospital. Patient before and after male breast reduction Call: 08457 626 727 (UK) 18 50 20 40 90 (Ireland) www.thehospitalgroup.org www.thehospitalgroup.ie 16 Call: 08457 626 727 (UK) 18 50 20 40 90 (Ireland) www.thehospitalgroup.org www.thehospitalgroup.ie 17 Genital Labia Reduction It is not unusual to be dissatisfied with the size, shape and appearance of the labia. The labia may be particularly large, long, bulky or asymmetrical. This can cause significant embarrassment or self-consciousness – it can also be physically quite uncomfortable, causing irritation in certain clothing. It could be something you were born with, but for many the situation can arise or become more pronounced after childbirth, with age or a change in body-weight. What is Involved? A labia reduction (or labiaplasty) is a cosmetic surgery procedure undertaken under general anaesthetic. A skilled cosmetic surgeon will cut away the unwanted tissue from the labia to create the desired shape. Surgery is performed under general anaesthetic and will require an overnight stay in hospital. Other Female Genital Reshaping In partnership with our clinic in Marbella, Spain; we also offer a variety of other genital reshaping procedures, including vaginal tightening and hymenoplasty. Male Genital Reshaping Again, in partnership with the Marbella clinic, we can also offer testicle implants, penile implants and penile enlargement. We have chosen state of the art equipment to maximise results and safety while minimizing downtime. Visible and significant results can be achieved in just one single treatment, though sometimes a course is necessary to achieve the full impact. Our laser treatment options include: • Laser hair removal If you are tired of waxing, shaving or using hair removal creams this could be for you! Laser hair removal is a quick and effective way to remove unwanted hair with lasting results. It is suitable for the face or body. The most popular areas for treatment are the underarm, legs and bikini, while men choose it for the chest or back. • Laser skin rejuvenation This is a method to firm and tighten areas of the face and body that have been damaged or affected by the sun, the environment or ageing. The laser targets specific areas to promote the production of new collagen and cell repair for a more youthful and revitalised appearance. • Laser vein reduction treatment Unsightly red or purple veins are very hard, and almost impossible to get rid of naturally, but our new laser technology can help. Laser vein treatment provides a very successful option in terms of reducing and removing these veins and may also be used effectively on haemangioma. Unlike many clinics, we offer a FREE private consultation with a fully trained aesthetic nurse practitioner. Whether you are interested in hair removal, skin rejuvenation or vein treatment, it's a great opportunity to discuss your options and find out what sort of a treatment plan will help you to get the results you are looking for. Hyperhidrosis (Excessive Perspiration) Sweating is a natural and necessary function to control body temperature. However, excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) is an embarrassing condition that affects a surprising number of people. Heavy perspiration in the armpit area is not only uncomfortable, but also unsightly, leading to confidence problems and restricted choices in what to wear. The condition is quickly and effectively treated using BOTOX® in the underarm area. A series of injections into both armpits will take less than half an hour and will stop excessive sweating for around 6 months. With repeated treatments, the results last even longer. We offer hyperhidrosis treatment in all our UK and Ireland clinics with expert and specifically trained nonsurgical nurses.
